And Just Like That... (2021)
And just like that, is was God awful
What was a "guilty" pleasure has become a a series with all the subtlety and charm of being struck in the head with a meat ax. LBGTQ, good, you? Stupid. It is written as if it were scolding everyone who is not LBGTQ as suspect, unimaginative and lesser. It is screechy and preachy in the worst possible parody of the other side phobic responses.
Commitment, loyalty and friendship, which is what at least made the old show palatable. All of these are trumped by self expression and gender freedom and doing so in the most sanctimonious and robotic way. I am all for exploring ones options and living your true life, but for Christ Sakes, at least be interesting while you do it.
Law & Order: The Right Thing (2022)
Please do not bring Jeffery Donovan in too hot!
Long time fan, in all it's iterations. I thrilled the OG is back, but please soften up on Donovan's character and do not make him so utterly and completely unlikeable. He, and we, deserve better.
Your Honor (2020)
This could have and should have been so much more than it was.
What is was, was a HUGE disappointment I am actually angry that I wasted 10 hours of my life on it. Like LOST angry. The cast should have made this a most enjoyable 10 hours. The writing was so weak, I am not sure it is measurable on any know scale. Actors can only do so much when the material is so inferior. Everyone involved deserved so much better. New Orleans deserved so much better. I, and the rest of the viewers, deserved so much better.
Palm Springs (2020)
It is worth a watch
This is not a movie that will change the world, but it was a very pleasant diversion. It has some great performances and a watchable, if not recognizable, plot line. It was a very nice way to kill part of a morning.
Trespass (2011)
Over acted and under written
I am stunned that there was an actual screen writing credit. The script meanders all over the place and never really gets anywhere interesting. None of the characters are likable enough to garner much concern. Fully understanding that is stars Nick Cage, it is over acted and underwritten. The characters are so unsympathetic that you kind of hope that they will not make to the end of the film. The characters switch allegiance so quickly, it is nearly impossible to keep track of who is on what side at any given moment. The weak plot wanders through the film like the Mississippi and leaves nothing but a build up of silt in it's wake. The story is so improbable, it is impossible to suspend enough belief to settle into the film. Save the 2 hours of your life for watching paint dry. It will be more satisfying.
Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (2006)
Maybe it is just me
I thought that this film was awful, like stunk on ice awful. Kidman can certainly carry off the doe eyed innocent, but she can't make it interesting. Even RDJr, who is generally worth sitting through almost anything, except this, could not save this or make it worth the 2 hours and change of my life that I will never get back.
Ty Burrell was nice to see in a non-silly role, completely unlike his TV persona.
The movie was painfully boring, pretentious and self conscious to the point of being unwatchable. I must admit, I threw in the towel about 45 minutes in and watched a documentary on PBS. Time better spent.
