Scarce (2008)
Gruesome and Violent and a lot of fun!
I finally was able to track this movie down. I had read a lot about it on the web and it sounded really cool. Snowboarders fall prey to cannibals in the woods. Sounds like my kind of movie and it I was not disappointed. It started out a little slow but picked up in the middle and didn't let go. For a low budget indie film it had really good gore effects. You could tell a lot of hard work was put into making this. I mean I don't know if I could run around the in the dead of winter in Canada in nothing but a t-shirt and boxers. When I was watching that I could feel the cold. Over all, a good horror movie with plenty of violence and gore! I would recommend this to any one who is into horror movies.
Home Sick (2007)
Cult Classic Status
I have been waiting to see this movie and when i finally saw it I was not disappointed! The effects were awesome. It was gory as heck. Bill Moseley was awesome in it as well as Tom Towels (Both of Rob Zombie Fame). All the characters that were high looked like garbage and acted way out of the ordinary. I think the director and writer were trying to portray a message with that. But the acting was was good and there was some weird humor in it. To me, when a movie has you thinking about it long after it ends it is a good movie and this one had me thinking about it long after I watched it. I hope to see what else E.L. Katz (Writer/Producer) comes up with in the future. I hope it is as crazy, whacked-out and gory as "Home Sick" was. If your a horror fan than you should not miss this!
Alive or Dead (2008)
OK Slasher Flick
The story we have all seen a million times before if your into horror movies anyway. Girl gets stuck on a lonely road at night and runs into a creepy dude and captured hooded woman. The woman tried to help said captured woman and winds up at some one story castle in the middle of the desert.
I have to say that I really didn't understand what was going on. There is a huge, crazy, infantile-like man who kills people and there is a lizard looking boy who is a cannibal. Than there is a doctor. I don't know what the lizard is boy is doing there. But regardless of the major plot-holes I did enjoy the movie somewhat. Ill have to watch it again. Maybe I'll understand it a little better. Overall, the gore was OK and the production was good. The story, however, needed a little work.
The Strangers (2008)
Expected a lot more
I wish my experience watching this movie was better. I saw it on opening night with about fifty 16 and 17 year old girls. Every time they showed one of the killers everyone screamed. Don't get me wrong its cool when the entire audience is into the movie but it got old quick. The movie itself was in my opinion just OK. It was mainly just a moviethat made you jump. I was kind of expecting a lot more from it. The beginning was cool because there was an actual plot. About 30 minutes into it the plot fell apart and it turned into be a teen fright flick. They didn't get into why the killers did what they did other than the fact that the victims "were home". The ending was just OK but I expected that since the beginning of the movie states "what happened that night is still not entirely known". Also it says it is based on a true story which it is not. Overall though with the obvious flaws aside, it was entertaining and and cool Horror movie. I am hoping for a sequel that might explain a little more of the killers M.O..
S.I.C.K. Serial Insane Clown Killer (2003)
THE worst movie I have ever seen
This is quite possibly THE worst movie I have ever seen. Again I made the mistake of buying the movie because the synapse on the back sounded cool and the front cover looked pretty cool too (After buying this and the movie "Malevolence" which I reviewed on here as well, I have learned my lesson). I love horror movies that take place in the woods or in the desert or on a farm. This supposedly takes place in the woods of Texas but was probably filmed in the director's backyard. The production was probably the worst I ever seen. The actors were absolutely the WORST. The story didn't have anything to do with what the back cover said. I even tried to sell it to F.Y.E and some other "mom and pop" store that buys used DVDs and neither would take it. Thats how awful this poor miserable excuse for a movie was. I have seen some bad movies before (Troll 2 for example) but this definitely takes the cake. I didn't think there was a worse movie than "Troll 2". Boy was I wrong! Do not buy this movie unless someone hands it to you for free but even than your stuck with it unless you throw it out which is what I am about to do!!!!
Malevolence (2003)
Halloween Wannabe
I bought this movie for 2 dollars purely based on the cover (which is something I have learned never to do again). This movie is not good. The acting is bad, the story is so so and the ending is bad. All of that equals about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 . The killer's character, to me, looks as though he wants to be Michale Meyers really bad. It was however better than some low budget flicks have seen in the past year or so. I did actually watch the entire movie so that says something in itself. There were also some creepy shots of the woods and farmland which is liked. I guess if you see this movie for $2 than pick it up because thats all it is worth.
Carver (2008)
Good old fashioned slasher flick
After just watching this movie, I have to say that despite it being very low budget, I enjoyed it. Plenty of violence and gore. The effects were very well done and the acting (although could have been better) wasn't too bad. I think the character of Zach was funny. Every one knows someone like him. Listen, the movie isn't a top-notch, big budget, Oscar winner but it fulfilled its purpose and that was to entertain. I would like to see this movie remade with a way bigger budget and I can tell you then it can be compared to "Hostel" and "Saw". Does anyone know what actual events this movie was based on? Because the story doesn't sound familiar.
