I wasn't alive during the 90s era of film but based on everyone I've met who has been in show business this movie is a manifestation of the feeling (based on my humble opinion)
Wacky with no real story understandable and relatable. That technique you've always wanted to see is being planted in this film and there's nothing you can do about it. Being able to tell a story has evolved so much and what people will accept as reasonable or average has become more than a variable or a spectrum but a singularity in which you can draw from infinitely. Show biz folk would rather grind their ears in a blinder than listen to someone explain something important with bureaucracy or Professionalism. This film takes that and dumps on it in a fashion that the Illuminati could never truly detect. To be an artist is to be a rat!

The film is what you think it is and gives you more sauce than you asked for, if you like movies that's literally the point of going to the theater. If you are looking to be spoon fed a story that you can gossip with your friends about this probably isn't for you. A film that takes an industry to a new level if productions and producers pick up what they are putting down.
I have not seen the musical but now I want to. Not only do I want to see the musical I want to jump up and express myself through film or art for that matter. You can only do so much with a camera and lights so to be able to explain all of human history's dynamic just between your two main characters is something every film strives to be, to ignore that is to ignore the point of art in general.
