From beginning to end, Bob Trevino Likes It took me on a wonderful journey at the SXSW premier. I cannot recall a film that gently coaxed me to let go and feel for 120 minutes. This is a brilliant bit of writing as humor always arrived to cradle the emotional moments.
The humanity among these characters is revealed in a beautiful way. We are all these characters at some point in our lives - and like these characters, we grow, we adapt, and we love the people who are family, and chosen family.
At the end of this movie, my heart felt fulfilled. Bob Trevino Likes It should win many awards. Writer and Director Tracie Laymon has entwined her creativity and values in this script. The industry needed this movie! I highly recommend it.

Bob Trevino Likes It deservedly won Best Narrative at SXSW, had full houses going on five showings. This film was one of the most life affirming I've seen in a while what with honest performances, a nuanced script that balanced laughs with sobbing (yep, the good kind). Diretor Laymon brings us a story steeped in the modern world of social media yet at the same time providing the audience the unrelenting power of human connection. Gloriously graceful and smart, Bob Trevino Likes It is a refreshing character study that rewards the audience by eschewing cheap gags and crass dialogue in service of masterful storytelling. A trumph!!!
Prepare to be completely swept away by writer/director Tracie Laymon's heartfelt and touching directorial debut, BOB TREVINO LIKES IT. Not since LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, THE FISHER KING or ONCE has a movie made me laugh, cry, feel and care for the characters so effortlessly. I've been a fan of Tracie's short films and award-winning screenplays for years, but I was completely unprepared for how powerfully this film would wrap me up in its spell and never let me go. From the beautifully vulnerable performances of Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo, to the pitch-perfect script, to the masterful cinematography and directing, there's a dozen reasons why this film ran away with both the 2024 SXSW Jury Award and Audience Award. If it's a story of the heart you're looking for, look no further.

A sweet, genuinely funny movie about the impact a friendship can have on lives. Tracie Laymon's film, inspired by her own experiences, is the kind of story indie movies were made to tell: character-driven, rooted in real emotion, and life-affirming. And again, it's really funny!
The cast is phenomenal. Barbie Ferreira is the standout, an extraordinary, layered performance, but John Leguizamo is pitch perfect as a kind man making an unexpected friend. French Stewart shows a side many haven't seen from him before, as a narcissistic, neglectful dad, but even within that role, his comic instincts mine hilarious moments. Rachel Bay Jones and Lauren 'Lolo' Spencer round the film out with really excellent turns.
I saw this at Seattle International Film Festival, and the packed crowd laughed and sniffled through tears, then gave Laymon a standing ovation. I hope it finds distribution soon!

I was able to watch this movie during SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival). I went in without seeing the trailer or reading the synopsis and it turned out to be my absolute favorite from the festival! I laughed a lot, cried a little and walked out with a full heart. It's a beautiful film sharing the complexities of our relationships and has stayed with me ever since. Hopefully this film will be available more broadly. If you get the chance, go see it, it will make your day (at a minimum). I will definitely see it again. Thank you Tracie Laymon for bringing your story and this film to life! Bravo!
I will not post any spoiler details but as a creative, a writer And fan of films this will be seen as a perfect movie. This movie will encompass the human condition through the main character in a swift masterful journey of self growth and resilience through bittersweet circumstances.
I will be the first to claim it will be oscar worthy out the gate and one of the best films of the decade.
I truly loved the whole cast's performances as an assemble . When this Film drops I implore you all to rush to see it.
I will state it is a universally relatable film due to how anyone watching will feel the humanity in it.

I was lucky enough to view the premiere at SXSW and all I can say is that all the accolades and awards are very much deserved. Right out of the gate, the lead character Lily, masterfully portrayed by Barbie Ferreira, is so endearing and likable that you root for her and despise her dad, perfectly portrayed by French Stewart. John Leguizamo, in the role of the good Bob Trevino, plays such a normal, hard working man that has been through some tough times himself. Ferreira and Leguizamo show a friendship that doesn't seem forced or weird...it feels natural and innocent. The story sucks you in and before you know it, you're completely invested. There are times you laugh, you cry, you laugh-while-crying; all the way to the end. I haven't gotten this sucked into a film's storyline in a long time. No spoilers, but at the end, emotion swelled up in me and I was full on ugly crying. I turned to my friend and said that I felt like I needed some time to process everything. It's no wonder it won the big awards at SXSW. I want everyone I know to see it. If you get the opportunity, run to the theater and see it. You won't be disappointed.

I have been teaching film for almost 30 years, and this is one of the best films I have ever seen. Filmmaker Tracie Laymon creates a truly heartfelt story and film with characters and emotions that are real and deeply felt by the viewer. She also sprinkles in moments of delightful comedy to keep the film real and varied, after all, life has sad moments and funny moments. She is also helped by a wonderful cast (especially Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo) who, like their director/screenwriter, are telling this story from their hearts and have wonderful chemistry on screen. I also appreciated how Tracie didn't fall into typical movie tropes that you might see in a film of this type (sorry, no spoiler alerts!). This is also a reason I love Indie films so much, they are simple, personal stories that tug at our hearts rather than our visual senses like so many blockbuster movies do today. Once released and distributed, I will absolutely add this film to my curriculum. It is a perfect example of filmmaking and storytelling at its best, and I can't wait to see it again and share it with my students! Absolutely beautiful film!!
When I describe the plot of Bob Trevino Like It, I feel like I'm describing a proverbial Hallmark movie. However, there's zero cheese and no romance which is great.
The movie is based on the writer and director's real life experience. During a period when her father refused to talk to her, the protagonist searches for her father on Facebook. Send ends up sending a friend request to another man with the same name as her father. He begins to like her posts. Though she quickly realizes he is not her actual father, he innocently befriends her and this friendship ends up transforming her life.
As mentioned, there's no romance in this movie. This turns out to be great for this film. Romance is obviously one of the most emotional aspects of most of our lives which is why so many films include it. But a large part of our lives doesn't involve romance. So, it's great to see a film which doesn't feel compelled to go that route. It's also great for a film to depict a deep and meaningful friendship between and man and woman without it being sexual.
I'm not an expert, but I couldn't find anything to criticize about the movie. I thought it so good that it is only the 4th film I've ever rated 10/10.

Bob Trevino likes it and the audience loves it! Don't miss the opportunity to see this film.
I recently got a chance to see it at the Stockholm International film festival and wow what a movie! This is not only a well written script, but it was perfectly cast. This film does a brilliant job of carrying you through an emotional journey. You will leave having all the feels. I found myself laughing at parts and having tears of not only sadness, but of happiness as well. It was incredibly moving and really shows the importance of human connections. If you are looking for a movie that has a lot of heart this is one to see.

What an incredibly powerful and beautiful story that anyone can relate to! The performances and story pull you in and makes you feel the story to the point you forget you're watching a movie and just experiencing it. John Leguizamo and Barbie farriera's connection is beautiful and complimented with writer director Tracie Laymon's direction to capture it all. Highly recommend this movie to anyone who feels lost because this movie has a community that tells you you're not alone because you're not! Congratulations to the team and thank you for such an impactful movie! Family isn't only blood, you can choose it too.
While many films simply exist to entertain or educate, when was the last time a movie truly moved you? It's this noble MIA concept that the 10-star indie outing "Bob Trevino Likes It" has in spades and thankfully never stops delivering. Writer/Director Tracie Laymon creates a weird and wonderful platonic relationship between a emotionally damaged young girl and an equally apathetic older man (played with layered perfection by Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo) that produces the most unusual and endearing odd couple of recent years.
Captivating from star to finish, never afraid to tackle the hard subjects with honesty and unpredictably askew, "Bob Trevino Likes It" is a rare film that makes you feel.

Bob Trevino Likes It..is the most heart warming film I have seen in years! The film takes the audience from laughter to crying while cracking open every heart in the theater. Writer, Director Tracie Laymon skillfully directs a wonderful cast, Barbie Ferreira knocks it out of the park and John Leguizamo makes us believe in people again..even in 2024. French Stewart makes you want to punch him, Lolo Spencer is brilliant and hilarious! Rachel Bay Jones gives a beautiful performance and the ending of this gem is so unique, surprising, and gratifying you will carry Bob Trevino Likes It in your heart forever!

I had heard all the festival buzz about Bob Trevino Likes It, so I jumped at the chance to see it at RIFF last Friday. You immediately connect with our heroine, who displays her people-pleasing ways with a sweetly broken earnestness. Then you see how she got that way, with a father who is present only physically (French Stewart impressively showing the darkness behind his affable demeanor.) So, you root for her when she finds a pure and wholesome connection, and what seems like a movie about that connection becomes so much more, with a gut-punch conclusion that had the whole audience in tears. Great performances, writing and message. Go see!
Bob Trevino Likes It ... Written and Directed by Tracie Laymon is a true Masterpiece. Director Laymon brings us a film that will have everyone in the theaters crying with tears of happiness, sadness and laughter a combination few Directors can pull off. The cast is exceptional. Barbie Ferreira is bouncy and wonderful and shows us what range she has as she takes us on a journey with her that we all want to go on. John Leguizamo is a hero we should all take note of in his role as Bob, his combination of compassion and empathy are rarely seen and very much appreciated. I loved Lolo Spencer, she is hilarious as Daphne. The ending of this film is the Best! Do not miss this film!
