German actors Elisa Schlott (“Das Boot” TV series), Max Riemelt (“Sleeping Dog”) and Alma Hasun (“Corsage”) are set to star in Italian director Silvio Soldini’s drama “The Tasters,” which reconstructs the untold true story of the women conscripted to be Adolf Hitler’s food tasters.
Shooting is set to start on Friday in Italy’s northern Alto Adige region on the Nazi-era drama, which is being pre-sold at the Cannes Marché du Film by Rome-based Vision Distribution.
Soldini is known for sophisticated comedy “Bread and Tulips,” which launched from Cannes, and relationship dramas “Days and Clouds” and “Come Undone.”
“The Tasters,” which will mark Soldini’s first foray into German-language cinema, is based on the bestselling book “At the Wolf’s Table” by Italian author Rosella Postorino. The story follows a group of women who were recruited by the SS in 1943 to make sure that the food being served to Hitler was not poisoned.

‘Criminal Code’ Review: Netflix Brazilian Series Is A Detailed Action Thriller That Demands Patience
The Brazilian TV show Criminal Code can drive one nuts with its winding car chases and fantastically shot gun-fights, but if you’re not one to care so much for the details, this show may feel extremely overwhelming. The show does manage to include some comical moments that give a very colloquial feel to the police force that we’re following in this story. The show is divided into multiple subplots, mainly about a beat-up federal cop, namely Benício, trying to get revenge for the death of his partner, and a massive criminal organization that crosses borders and wreaks havoc. The show is a thriller that delivers an electrifying mix of intense gunfights and high-speed chase scenes. The thriller delivers a massive punch with its speedy car chases and Fps-like gunfights that often feel like a high-budget music video with Brazilian rap music in the background.

Chris Hemsworth‘s action-thriller “Extraction 2” has been dominating the English movie charts for weeks, but it was bumped by the new action-comedy “The Out-Laws,” starring Adam Devine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin and Pierce Brosnan. It racked up 19.6 million views since debuting on the streamer to take the #1 spot, the most-watched movie in the United States and over forty other countries (but not the UK or Canada).
“Extraction 2” remained in second place with 8.9 million views to bring its total to 111.4 million views in four weeks of release. That’s just behind Jennifer Lopez‘s action flick “The Mother,” with 130 million views to date. As expected, the animated feature “Nimona,” was able to...

There weren’t too many surprises in Netflix’s Top 10 chart for the week of June 19 with Chris Hemsworth‘s action sequel “Extraction 2” holding strong and Charlie Brooker‘s “Black Mirror” Season 6 taking over the TV chart. Read on for this week’s analysis. (A quick reminder that Netflix recently changed their system to focus on total actual views vs. hours viewed.)
Hemsworth held the Top 2 spots with “Extraction 2” and the original “Extraction,” which had 42.2 million views and 13.8 million, respectively. “Extraction 2” had 87.3 million hours viewed just this week, which should eventually get it into Netflix’s most-watched list along with the original “Extraction.” It was the #1 most-watched film in over 85 territories.

The latest season of Charlie Brooker’s mind-bending anthology series “Black Mirror” landed at the top of Netflix’s Top 10 English TV List with 11.6 million views.
And for the second week in a row, Chris Hemsworth has dominated the top two spots on the English Films List. “Extraction 2” currently sits at the No. 1 spot with 42.2 million views, making it the most-watched title on Netflix this week. Its predecessor, “Extraction,” wasn’t far behind with 13.8 million viewers, securing the No. 2 spot on its list. In fact, the “Extraction” franchise has seen 108.4 million views since June 12 — four days before the sequel premiered on the streaming service — which makes it the first film franchise to hold the top two sports for two weeks in a row.
The action movies were then followed by the nightmarish documentary “Take Care of Maya,” which saw 9.2 million views. The rom-com “The Perfect Find” (7 million), the children-focused...

Netflix’s Sleeping Dog includes a trio of best friends, but it’s not a teen rom-com; it’s a German cop-thriller and a whodunit mystery, with a cop named Mike Atlas in the center of it all. Mike has been through a traumatic incident, and this has led to Ptsd with loss of memory. As Mike unravels the truth within, he also notices that his friends may not have been his friends after all. This sounds pretty dramatic, but that’s how the show is, and although we can argue that their love for each other doesn’t falter, we can say that personal goals changed up the dynamic of the trio enough to ruin their friendship for good. When the show begins, we know that Atlas is really close to Zari and Roland, but after moving out of the house and essentially quitting his job, they drift apart.

Because Sleeping Dog is swimming with great characters, it somehow drowns in its own excited details. In six episodes, a lot happens, and because there’s not one particular thing to focus on, some of the characters end up taking the back seat, and Britney happens to be one of them. A black lesbian cop in Germany is unique, and in the first half of the series, we learn a lot about Britney, but as the series progresses to the climax of Mike’s story, she doesn’t get to be a cop; there’s more of a focus on her personal life. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but considering her back story, we’d imagine she’d be more interested in figuring out more about Mike and why people are digging up old cases again. Britney is played by Melodie Wakivuamina, who is great at expressing Britney’s fear and determination simultaneously.

The standout character from the German-language Netflix original Sleeping Dog has got to be Jule Andergast. Apart from a great performance by Luise von Finckh, the character herself is extremely engaging and fun for a series that is surrounded by dark themes. She’s like a ray of sunshine in the middle of all the clouds. Jule Andergast works at the Da’s office under her mentor, Corinna Steck. She’s keen on making a good impression on her boss and mentor, along with being great at her job. In truth, Jule has all the skills to be great at what she does, but she’s bogged down by the pressure to be better because her mother, too, was a Da.
Through Sleeping Dog series, we understand that Jule’s mother had died, and that she’s been living under the wings of Steck since then. Steck and Andergast used to be friends,...

Sleeping Dog (Schlafende Hunde) is a German series starring Max Riemelt. Created by Oded Davidoff and Noah Stollman, this entertaining thriller takes us into the world of lawyers, detectives, criminals, and unsolved cases.
It is perfect for those who seek a well-crafted police intrigue, with charismatic characters and a corollary story, primarily well-told in its entirety.
Plot
A new death awakens disturbing doubts about an old case supposedly closed. A former policeman who now lives on the street sets out to uncover the truth.
About the Series
“A Good Script” is the primary strength of “Sleeping Dog” built on well-constructed, real, and charismatic characters in a story that knows precisely what fascinating history to tell and how to make everything surrounding the main axis interesting.
Technically, it does not strive for aesthetics or the treatment of shots. There is a lot of handheld camera work, many sequences that want to be real and natural,...

The Gabrielle Union-starring rom-com The Perfect Find and new seasons of deceptive baking sensation Is It Cake? and The Witcher, marking the beginning of the end of Henry Cavill’s starring run, are some of the much-anticipated titles still set to come to Netflix this month.
In The Perfect Find, Union plays a fashion editor who, after a public breakup and career implosion, starts working for her former rival Darcy Hill (Gina Torres) and catches the eye of a younger videographer (Keith Powers), who happens to be the boss’ son. As a romance blossoms, Union’s character begins to question what she really wants from the next phase of her life. As we creep towards summer, Netflix has a hot new list of fresh content, including the final season of “Never Have I Ever,” the sophomore season of ‘Human Resources” and the highly anticipated sixth season of “Black Mirror.”
Kicking off the start of the month on mega streamer are lots of family-friendly goodies like both “Nanny McPhee” and “Nanny McPhee Returns,” “Kicking and Screaming,” “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius” and the “Angry Birds Movie.” But the adults won’t be left out of the conversation, as more mature flicks and series like “Jarhead,” “Funny People” and “We’re the Millers” are also hitting the platform this month.
And it wouldn’t be Netflix without its originals. “Take Care of Maya,” “Extraction 2” and the Sarah Snook-led “Run Rabit Run” will land on the site in June. And even if this isn’t enough to get you watching, Netflix will be streaming its Tudum festival on Saturday,...

Netflix gained a new competitor last month (sort of) when HBO Max and Discovery+ combined forces to create the confusingly-named Max. With its list of new releases for June 2023, however, Netflix doesn’t have too much to worry about.
This month is filled with some major Netflix original titles, not the least of which is The Witcher season 3 volume 1 on June 29. Though star Henry Cavill is set to leave the Polish folklore/video game adaptation in season 4, he remains very much entrenched as the titular Witcher in this next go-around. Other big TV hits include Manifest season 4 part 2 (June 2), Big Mouth spinoff Human Resources season 2 (June 9), and animated King Kong series Skull Island (June 22). That’s not even to mention the return of Black Mirror season 6. That still has yet to receive a release date but we have no doubt it will be properly epic once it arrives.
