Prior to "Gilligan's Island" in 1964, Tina Louise was already a long-working actress. Indeed, Louise worked her first modeling gig at the age of two, appearing in an ad campaign for her father's candy store. In high school, she started studying acting, and landed her first professional gig in 1956, appearing in an episode of the TV series "Studio One." She made her feature film debut in Anthony Mann's celebrated drama "God's Little Acre," in which Louise played Griselda, the wife of a character played by Jack Lord. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance.

Apartment 7A Trailer: "Paramount+ today released the official trailer for the all-new psychological thriller Apartment 7A, available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ Friday, September 27 in the U.S. and Canada, Latin America and Brazil and on September 28 in the U.K., France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Australia. I’ve been on a bit of a Larry Fessenden kick lately either intentionally or by circumstance. Who are we to disagree Danielle Harris? When looking for a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, nothing in our completely mad up rules that say a movie can’t be well received at the time of release. Dark Sky Films has acquired North American rights to Blackout, the new film from independent horror veteran Larry Fessenden.

The thriller, about a fine arts painter convinced he is a werewolf wreaking havoc on a small American town, will be released in the first quarter of 2024 in theaters and on digital platforms. Yellow Veil Pictures is handling worldwide rights at the American Film Market.

Blackout — which stars Alex Hurt (Minyan, New Amsterdam) and Addison Timlin (Submission, American Horror Stories) and received rave reviews during its festival run — marks the reunion of Dark Sky, a subsidiary of MPI Media Group, and Fessenden’s Glass Eye Pix. The two renowned horror companies have previously worked together on contemporary classics, such as Ti West’s The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers, Jim Mickle’s Stake Land and Late Phases, directed by Adrian Garcia.

Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has announced early sales on Mexican supernatural horror and Cannes Marché sales title Play With Me (Juega Conmigo) directed by Mexico-based genre ace Adrian Garcia Bogliano.

It has sold to Rocket Releasing for Russia/Cis, where it just opened, as well as to Av Jet for Taiwan, and Mocking Bird for Vietnam. Negotiations are ongoing for South Korea, Japan, Spain, France, and German-speaking Europe.

The small town of Beaverfield is much like many others across the nation in 2021. Exclusive: Sales outfit FilmSharks has signed a deal with Videocine, the Mexican company affiliated with Televisa, to represent international rights on its upcoming Spanish-language feature Come Play With Me (Juega Conmigo).

Adrian Garcia Bogliano (Late Phases) directs the supernatural horror from a screenplay by Adriana Pelusi. The plot follows Sofía, an insecure young nanny who starts her new job taking care of two problematic kids. When their parents leave her alone with the children, they become victims of a demonic entity obsessed with playing children’s games. Now Sofia will have to play the games and overcome her childhood fears in order to try to save them.

Liz Dieppa, Emilio Beltran Ulrich, Valery Sais, Alejandra Rodriguez, Octavio Hinojosa and Rocío García star. Producers are Lemonster, from Lemon Studios (Km 31).

Nick Damici has been a familiar face in the horror genre for years now. Primarily working with writer/director Jim Mickle, on whose films he has also co-written, this gruff, large but still oddly charming presence has impressed before but he was never given a true lead part until this film. With Mickle uninvolved, although long-time cohort Larry Fessenden produces and pops up in a cameo role, Damici takes centre stage in Late Phases, a film with the wonderfully juicy premise of a blind ‘Nam veteran getting revenge on a werewolf after it kills his best friend.

It feels appropriate to base this review around Damici as he is the chugging motor which drives the film and the beating heart which actually makes you invest in it.

Following the horror juggernaut that was Halloween (1978), major studios were very interested to hop in bed with stalk and slay splatterfests. When the Paramount distributed Friday the 13th (1980) looked to be muy lucrative, the big boys jumped hard on the mattress to see how much coin they could dislodge. MGM was no different, and made their claim with He Knows You’re Alone (1980), a film that ultimately survived the dog pile with winning characterizations over slavish Carpenter imitations.

Filmed in December of ’79 on Staten Island and released at the end of summer, He Knows You’re Alone made nearly $ 5 million for MGM against a meager $ 250,000 budget. A tidy profit to be sure, but it was recognized by most critics (and horror fans alike) as a messy pastiche of everything that worked about Halloween but operating with a lot less wattage. I’ve enjoyed Ethan Embry’s on-screen work for a long time now, and it’s been great to see him keeping busy these days—from his work on Grace and Frankie, to his appearance on the season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead, to his fantastic performances in genre fare like Cheap Thrills, Late Phases, The Guest, and his recent role in Sean Byrne’s The Devil’s Candy, which arrives in select theaters and on VOD on Friday, March 17th from IFC Midnight.

I don't know a lot about filmmaker Matt Stuertz (Rwd), but I do know that I love this teaser trailer for his new flick, Tonight She Comes, which we have below. If you love old-school horror trailers, you'll recognize the techniques used. There's a lot of nostalgia thrown around in horror films lately, but this teaser looks genuinely fun.  Stuertz wrote, directed, and edited the film, and the original music was composed by Wojciech Golczewski (We Are Still Here, Late Phases, Beyond the Gates) --- which is even more exciting, because Golczewski knows his genre films. Adrian Garcia Bogliano, who is behind the werewolf movie Late Phases, has wrapped production [EW] on Black Circle(Svart Cirkel), a Swedish-language supernatural thriller that “turns on two sisters whose lives change dramatically after going through hypnosis using a mysterious vinyl […]...

Fans of the apocalyptic vampire film Stake Land have been looking forward to the continued adventures of Martin and Mister since the film was released in 2010, and while a Stake Land TV series was previously in development, Dark Sky Films, Glass Eye Pix, and Syfy have announced that filming has finished on a Stake Land sequel film called The Stakelander, with Connor Paolo and Nick Damici reprising their roles from the original movie.

Directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (2015’s Body) from a screenplay by co-star Damici (who also co-wrote Stake Land), The Stakelander will be released on the Syfy Channel. An official premiere date has yet to be revealed, but we’ll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further announcements. Over the last few years, Adrián García Bogliano has quickly become one of my favorite independent filmmakers due to his work on projects like Cold Sweat, Penumbra, Here Comes the Devil, Late Phases (easily the best werewolf movie we’ve had since Dog Soldiers), as well as his latest film, Scherzo Diabolico, a pitch-black revenge/comedy hybrid that demonstrates ambition always comes with a hefty price tag, especially when kidnapping is involved.

Scherzo Diabolico was released this week by Dark Sky Films on DVD and VOD platforms everywhere, and in honor of its release, Daily Dead had the chance to catch up with Bogliano, as well as Francisco Barreiro, who stars in the film and previously collaborated with the director on Here Comes the Devil. It looks like May will be a somewhat busy month in regards to horror and sci-fi VOD/Digital HD releases, as we have thirteen different titles arriving before Memorial Day. Dark Sky Films is kicking things off with Adrián García Bogliano’s Scherzo Diabolico, and for those of you wanting to check out the latest from Kane Hodder, The Haunting of Alice D arrives on all digital platforms the very same day.

Scream Factory is unleashing their latest film, Bite, on VOD on May 6th, and Regression, the mystery thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson, is getting released on May 10th courtesy of Starz Digital. No, that’s not Immortan Joe in the picture above – it’s jacked-as-hell Ethan Embry painting while being overtaken by satanic influence in his new thriller, The Devil’s Candy. He delivers a powerhouse performance as a father who unlocks an inner demon upon moving into a new home, but Embry’s latest film brings even more clout with the return of director Sean Byrne, who has been quiet since 2009’s The Loved Ones - and what a return it is.

The Devil’s Candy is all about seething, brooding tension, as Byrne builds a demonic story that’s begging to explode in a fiery fury of hellish horrors and heavy metal, but its restraint is even more impressive. The Devil’s Candy is one of those horror films that grips you by the throat and enjoys watching you squirm, dragging you down into a depths of Hell as Metallica riffs usher you in.

Dark Was the Night is the latest film from rookie director Jack Heller (Enter Nowhere). The film, from the promotional material, appears to be a creature feature. But, Dark Was the Night is centrally a family drama; the creatures lurk around the edges of the central setting, Maiden Woods. Though, they do make a late CGI appearance. Starring horror vet Nick Damici (Late Phases) and Kevin Durand, the film offers three mediocre themes: the male protection of femininity, the Devil as evil and a minor one involving hunting, or the creature(s) being a hunter. All of these themes could have been forgotten for a more important one, involving humanity's encroachment on nature. As it is, Dark Was the Night is a fairly standard horror outing.

Into the Woods: A Creature Was Lurking in Heller’s Rudimentary Sophomore Film

If it’s nifty poetic title manages to reel you in, you’ll discover a much less memorable narrative at play in Jack Heller’s sophomore effort, Dark Was the Night (if the title sounds familiar, you may be thinking of the 2013 indie Cold Was the Night with Bryan Cranston or the gospel blues song by Blind Willie Johnson). A creature feature filled with familiar scary techniques melded to tangential familial stressors, Tyler Hisel’s screenplay (a writer making a jump from found footage to traditional thriller narratives following the South African flick Safari, 2013) feels rather primitively conceived. A mysterious, mythical beast is unleashed in the woods while the rural townsfolk become terrified as animals disappear and the body count mounts, and the unloved outsider sheriff must contend with stopping the creature from decimating a community...

The 19th Annual Fantasia Film Festival is only a week away, beginning July 14 and running through August 4. And as promised for today, they’ve revealed their full line-up of films screening at 2015’s festival in Montreal.

This year’s line-up boasts 22 World Premieres, 13 International Premieres, and 21 North American Premieres. Both Marvel’s Ant-Man and the animated Miss Hokusai were previously announced, but now they’ve added the much anticipated Attack on Titan movie as their closing night film. Other highlights include the Sundance darlings Cooties, starring Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson, Cop Car, starring Kevin Bacon and directed by the upcoming Spider-man director Jon Watts, and a trio of films from horror auteur Sion Sono.

This week, Scream Factory is celebrating Neil Marshall’s stunning debut feature, Dog Soldiers, with a special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and DVD combo pack that is nothing short of an amazing feat in itself. And while there has been some controversy surrounding the quality of the transfer (more on that later), what I will say is that regardless, Sf has done an excellent job with their overall presentation of the disc and it’s nice to see the spotlight finally on Dog Soldiers, a film that has flown mostly under the radar here in the States since it was first released back on DVD in 2002.

Dog Soldiers starts off with a weekend military exercise that goes horribly awry, when a group of Scottish soldiers are sent off to a wooded area that also happens to be a haven for strange happenings, as a string of disappearances have occurred there over the years.

The 19th Fantasia International Film Festival is right around the corner. Though the full lineup for the festival won't be unveiled until early next month, the second wave of Fantasia titles have been revealed and horror fans have a lot to look forward to.

A little over one month away, the Fantasia Film Festival announced it’s second wave of titles this morning. Fantasia Film Festival holds a special place in the hearts of Sound on Sight and we could not be more excited for their upcoming edition which promises to be bigger and better than ever. Arguably the largest genre film festival in the world, Fantasia will run from July 14th to August 4th this year and feature a large number of world and international premieres. 5. The Liberator (Netflix)

While the idea of the historical epic has the ability to turn off a few cinephiles, this is a real gem of a film. From director Alberto Arvelo, The Liberator follows the story of one Simon Bolivar, with beloved Venezuelan thespian Edgar Ramirez in that very role.
