After FPJ's Ang Probinsyano, ABS-CBN brings out a new action-drama series through Star Creatives Production titled, "The Iron Heart." Directed by Richard Arellano and Lester Ong, the series is top-billed by Richard Gutierrez, in his first lead role on ABS-CBN. Gutierrez who plays the very stoic yet kind hearted Apollo Adelantar, a man with a tragic past who will soon find retribution by undergoing a dangerous mission to bring down Tatsulok, the largest crime syndicate.
The series follows Apollo's journey from a simple accountant to becoming a CIB agent leading a double life as a member of Tatsulok where it's filled with unexpected turn of events, both heartwarming and perilous. Among these include forming allies and friendships, as well as enemies hell-bent on taking his life. Fortunately, this only keeps Apollo motivated to fulfill his mission as he is guided by Atty. Helen Gomez, played by Maricel Laxa, who advises him on all the risks involved and in return, swore to protect his true identity. Other characters introduced in the series add a new dimension in the storyline where Apollo's mission might be jeopardized as well as the lives of those he's closest to. There's a strong message of hope and determination throughout his journey as he draws closer to the head of the organization known to its members as "Engineer," portrayed brilliantly by Albert Martinez, as the main antagonist.
So far, "The Iron Heart" has an impactful, compelling premise about the human condition and how circumstances significantly impact choices and shape character. The series opening theme soundtrack performed by Khimo Gumatay fits this message in the song's lyrics. The cinematography features many stunning drone shots of various parts of Cebu where the series is mainly filmed. There's a good balance of heavy drama, with notable performances by Maja Salvador as the love interest, and comic relief from Apollo's playful sidekick, played by Pepe Herrera. Gutierrez has great on-screen presence and has showcased some well-crafted stunt work during gun fights and hand combat martial arts. What also helps bring the series to new heights are some stellar performances by Sue Ramirez, Jake Cuenca, Sofia Andres, Meryll Soriano, as well as veteran actors like Roi Vinson, Jeric Raval, Baron Geisler, Dimples Romana, and many more. A high recommendation for those who love a decent solid action and adventure storyline.
