Joey King has been acting for over 20 years, but if she wasn’t an actress, she has two ideas for what she would be doing instead.
The 25-year-old Emmy-nominated actress is featured in a new Interview Magazine story, where she was interviewed by Channing Tatum. For those who don’t know, he played Joey‘s dad in the 2013 movie White House Down.
During the interview, Channing asked, “if you couldn’t do what you do now, what would you be doing?”
Joey first answered, “The dream would be to invest in something early and just be filthy f–king rich.” Channing wasn’t satisfied with that answer, so he made her come up with something else.

Roland Emmerich and Antoine Fuqua may have each helmed a dueling White House invasion movie in 2013, but it was all love between them at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.
Collider brought two of the most successful action directors of all time together in Hall H to discuss their work in a panel moderated by Steven Weintraub.
“Right before shooting, maybe a month before, I learned he was shooting another one that was called ‘Olympus Has Fallen,'” Emmerich said — revealing he actually watched Fuqua’s film on a plane. “I thought, this is such a better title than ‘White House Down.'”
Fuqua, who also confirmed he’s seen Emmerich’s film, added, “I figured there’s room for those stories. Obviously, it’s two different directors, two different visions on that.” He said the comparisons only fueled the fire inside to step his own game up, continuing, “When you...

It's fair to say no one goes to a Roland Emmerich movie expecting Shakespeare. Ever since breaking through with the sci-fi action hit "Universal Soldier" in 1992, his name has been synonymous with switch-off-your-brain blockbuster entertainment. At his best, he thrusts a colorful assortment of stars and character actors into a series of mayhem-laden set pieces with a gleeful shamelessness unseen since the heyday of Irwin Allen. He's well aware of his dialogue-writing shortcomings, and casts big personalities like Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Oliver Platt and so on to sell the heck out of his implausible exposition and shopworn banter.
When it works, it's Arby's. When it doesn't, it's hour-old Arby's.
Take "Stargate" for example. Emmerich and co-writer Dean Devlin's follow-up to "Universal Soldier" was an ambitious, big-budget attempt at an off-brand Indiana Jones adventure starring James Spader as a bookish Egyptologist who gets recruited by a...

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. The movie is set in 1963 as breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post compete to become the first company to create a morning pastry. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer also star, with Hugh Grant more than likely to steal the whole film with a turn as Tony the Tiger.

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

The month is a prime time to have Disney+, what with the ongoing and buzzy success of “X-Men 97” and upcoming “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” going behind the scenes of the reboot series. May is of course the month of Star Wars, and the House of Mouse will celebrate with “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” on May 4. Those who know who Roland Emmerich is will probably know that the director is known for his epic films, a lot of which are also major disaster films. Some of these major titles include Universal Soldier (1992), Stargate (1994), Independence Day (1996) and its sequel Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Godzilla (1998), The Patriot (2000), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), 10,000 BC (2008), 2012 (2009), White House Down (2013), Midway (2019), and Moonfall (2022). But, Emmerich is now shifting to television, as his new project is about to be released on Peacock this summer. Ahead of the premiere, a teaser trailer has been released.
The project in question is the epic sword-and-sandal series Those About to Die, which is set in Ancient Rome. The series will be based on the book of the same name by writer and journalist Daniel P. Mannix; interesting enough, the same book served as the basis for Ridley Scott’s epic classic, Gladiator.

They only come along every once in a blue moon: the dueling movies. 1998 was an especially unusual year in that it saw two of them hitting theaters, with killer asteroid films "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" going head-to-head within the same 12-month span as the animated insect flicks "Antz" and "A Bug's Life." There haven't been too many since then, save for the clash of the White House action-thrillers in 2013 with "Olympus Has Fallen" and "White House Down." Now, 2024 is bringing us the next big showdown between movies with remarkably similar premises.

"Sooner or later he will make a mistake. And it will be the last mistake he ever mistakes." Paramount has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller movie titled Air Force One Down, yes they're ripping off the "White House Down" series without an ounce of shame. On her first assignment aboard Air Force One, a rookie Secret Service agent faces the ultimate test when terrorists hijack the plane, aiming to disrupt a big energy deal. With the president's life on the line and a global crisis at stake, her bravery and her skills get pushed to the limit in a relentless battle that could change the course of history. The film stars Katherine McNamara, Ian Bohen, Anthony Michael Hall, Dascha Polanco, and Rade Serbedzija. This looks like some direct-to-the-bargain-bin action trash, not a single thing about it looks interesting or entertaining. // Continue Reading ›...

Season two of The Lincoln Lawyer got off to a strong start for Netflix in the streaming rankings — but another legal drama, Suits, remained a runaway No. 1.
The Lincoln Lawyer recorded 1.41 billion minutes of viewing for the week of July 3-9; the first half of its second season premiered July 6. The viewing time is an improvement of 59 percent over its series premiere week in May 2022 — when the show had 884 million minutes of viewing — and its second-highest tally ever on the Nielsen streaming chart.
It was also the top original series for the week, moving ahead of fellow Netflix series The Witcher. The fantasy drama had 1.19 billion minutes of viewing, down a modest 9 percent from 1.31 billion minutes a week earlier.
Suits, meanwhile, spent its third straight week at No. 1 and broke its own record for single-week viewing of an acquired series on the Nielsen charts. The former USA series, which streams on Netflix and Peacock,...

Three VOD charts and Netflix’s top 10 all resulted in films set in non-Earth planetary worlds leading the pack in home viewing. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (Disney) is #1 on VOD (at $19.99) at iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu, while “65,” four months after its theatrical release and multiple weeks scoring on VOD, tops Netflix’s movie chart.
“Galaxy” had a two-month window, as Disney increasingly slows down its initial home releases (“Avatar: The Way of Water” waited 100 days), and then to PVOD, not streaming. It was dominant enough that it led Vudu’s revenue-based list, even though it was only available for three of the seven days of their full-week rankings.

Once again. “John Wick: Chapter 4” (Lionsgate) ($5.99) is #1 at iTunes and Google Play, while “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” at $19.99 (Universal) is #1 at Vudu.
Like most weeks, Netflix’s top 10 movie list is topsy-turvy. New at #1 is “Run Rabbit Run,” an Australian horror film the streamer acquired out of the Sundance Film Festival’s Midnight section. It stars “Succession” actress Sarah Snook as a fertility doctor who notices her daughter’s strange behavior.
Beyond that, “Mario” is in two second-place spots while “Fast X” is #2 at Vudu, helped by its $19.99 price. “The Covenant” (MGM) is #3 at iTunes, “The Machine” (Sony) at $19.99 #3 at Vudu, with “Fast X” taking third at Google Play.

It would appear that the King of Modern Trash Cinema™ is on his way to becoming the King of Modern Trash Shared Universes: Deadline is reporting that Gerard Butler's "Has Fallen" franchise is headed to the small screen, even as a fourth movie centered on Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning continues to move forward.
The Scottish thespian and "300" actor -- whose many, many B-movie credits include "Law Abiding Citizen," "Den of Thieves," and this year's marvelously-titled "Plane" -- made his debut as Banning in Antoine Fuqua's "Olympus Has Fallen." Fuqua's modestly-successful action flick pitted Banning, a U.S. government agent haunted by a past failure on the job, against a North Korean-backed attack on the White House, making it one of two "Die Hard" riffs set in the Oval Office that released in 2013 (with the other being Roland Emmerich's arguably superior "White House Down...

To quote the evil Noah Cross in Chinatown, “Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough.” The same can be said of Adam Sandler, who spent years as a piñata for critics as a result of such mindless comedies as Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Now he’s an acclaimed actor, his name floated by Oscar prognosticators for such superb performances as the ones he gave in Uncut Gems and Hustle. He’s even joined the ranks of such illustrious comedic talents as Richard Pryor and George Carlin in winning the Mark Twain Prize.
But Sandler’s ultimately gotta be Sandler, and that huge deal with Netflix has to be fulfilled. Hence the arrival of Murder Mystery 2, the sequel to the critically panned 2019 comedy co-starring Jennifer Aniston that became the streamer’s biggest hit that year. This film brings back the goofy, doofus Sandler...

Sometimes you read a headline that feels so impossibly off-balance with the world, you can't help but wonder if you're living in a simulation or the world's worst season of "The Truman Show." German director Roland Emmerich made "The Noah's Ark Principle" in Germany in 1984 -- a student film with a budget of over a million Deutschmarks -- and never looked back. He quickly helmed two English-language family films, followed by a move into the worlds of action and science fiction in the 1990s. The peak Emmerich movie is probably still "Independence Day," although his other action and disaster movies -- "The Day After Tomorrow," "2012," "White House Down," and "Moonfall" -- are the connoisseur's choices.
Emmerich (both wisely and unwisely) stretches himself into other genres -- such as the war movies "The Patriot" and "Midway," and the historical dramas "Anonymous" and "Stonewall." It's good to see him pushing himself, taking risks, and experimenting, even if the end results are mixed, to say the least. But he excels at big-budget action movies, and if he's given actors blessed with the necessary star quality to build his beautiful disasters around,...

This month sees the debut of the second and final season of “Carnival Row” on Feb. 17, while Feb. 24 is when “The Consultant” – a “Severance”-like thriller series starring Waltz and directed by “WandaVision’s” Matt Shakman – drops.
In terms of new original Prime Video movies, on Feb. 10 there’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” a romantic comedy starring Alison Brie who co-wrote the script with her husband Dave Franco (who serves as director).
And you’ll find last year’s buzzy horror hit “Smile” on the streaming service on Feb. 21, while “Mad Max: Fury Road” filmmaker George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” arrives on Feb. 17.
That’s not to mention noteworthy library additions like “A.I.,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “Almost Famous.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for “Murder Mystery 2,” bringing back stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston for another thrilling adventure.
In “Murder Mystery 2,” Audrey and Nick Spitz (Aniston and Sandler) now run a struggling private eye agency when their friend, the Maharaja, gets kidnapped at his wedding, leaving the full-time detectives in the middle of an international abduction.
The 2019 “Murder Mystery” movie followed the Spitzes on a European vacation to refresh their marriage. However, their plans turned south when the cop and his wife were framed for murdering a billionaire, leading to an epic whodunnit adventure. The original film was massively successful, being streamed by over 30 million accounts in its first three days. It ended 2019 as Netflix’s most popular release, followed by “Stranger Things 3” in second place.

Exclusive: Garcelle Beauvais (Spider-Man: Homecoming, White House Down) is set to star in the Lifetime original movie Black Girl Missing as part of the network’s Stop Violence Against Women campaign. A new PSA for Black and Missing Foundation will be part of the movie’s rollout featuring Beauvais, who is also executive producing the movie that’s inspired by actual stories of missing women of color.
Black Girl Missing tells the story of a mother named Cheryl (Beauvais) whose daughter Lauren (Iyana Halley) is nowhere to be found. Authorities and media dismiss Lauren as a runaway while focusing heavily on another missing girl, who is white. Cheryl and her 15-year-old daughter Marley (Taylor Mosby) enlist the help of a dedicated community of amateur internet sleuths to try to find Lauren.

Few actors have enjoyed the sustained success of Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx. After a successful stint on the popular comedy sketch series "In Living Color," Foxx rose to the big leagues and teamed up with Oliver Stone for the football drama "Any Given Sunday" in 1999. From there, he would find fortune and glory in the music industry and dramas such as Michael Mann's "Collateral" and Taylor Hackford's 2005 biographical drama "Ray," both of which earned him accolades from critics and a handful of awards.
Since then, Foxx has pivoted to action vehicles such as "Baby Driver," big-budget spectacles like "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," and weightier dramas like the critically-acclaimed "Just Mercy." All told, Foxx's cinematic body of work has amassed over 7 billion at the worldwide box office, making him one of this generation's most bankable stars.
Which of his films is the best? We could debate that question all day,...

Channing Tatum is our pre-eminent cinematic goofball. The always likable actor is pretty much down for anything, no matter how silly. He's as likely to turn up cross-dressing in a P!nk music video as he is to perform "Frozen" songs on "Lip Sync Battle" ... again while cross-dressing, come to think of it. In his films he's been an action star, a rom-com lead, a teen-movie hunk, and a grown-up male stripper, and while Oscar-bait turns in films like "Foxcatcher" have fallen flat, there's always another comedy or pleasantly weird action film around the corner. He's even collaborated five times with Steven Soderbergh, with a sixth — a third "Magic Mike" movie — on the horizon.
In other words: there's more to Tatum than initially meets the eye. He often plays jocks who turn out to have big hearts, and he's excellent at portraying lovable lunkheads concealing softer sides. While he may...

Oscar winner Allison Janney has a very special set of skills — including how to kick ass.
For the Netflix action film “Lou,” Janney stars as the titular retired vigilante whose life is interrupted after a desperate mother (Jurnee Smollett) begs her to help save her kidnapped daughter. Per an official synopsis: “As a massive storm rages, the two women risk their lives on a rescue mission that will test their limits and expose dark and shocking secrets from their pasts.”
Logan Marshall-Green, Matt Craven, and Ridley Asha Bateman also star in the film, directed by Anna Foerster (“Underworld: Blood Wars”) from a script by Maggie Cohn and Jack Stanley. Bad Robot’s JJ Abrams, Hannah Minghella, and Jon Cohen are producing, with lead stars Janney and Emmy nominee Smollett executive producing. Lindsey Weber, behind Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is also serving as an executive producer.
