Set in 7028 in the galaxy called the New Expanse, space smuggler Kyne Dibasi must pay off his two-year debt to the Hashin smuggling cartel by tracking down a woman named Cuaras and returning her and her "stolen" cargo to Bahir Hashin. However, Dibasi learns along the way that Cuaras is more than she seems, and her precious cargo is in fact the stone that wiped out nearly all life on Earth 4000 years ago.
