When the filmmakers negotiated an initial exclusive U.S. opening DVD sales, starting July 16, 2013 with WalMart, WalMart representatives suggested that sales would be improved if "Conspiracy" were replaced with "Treasure" in the title and if "The Adventures of" were prefixed onto the title so it would appear near the beginning of alphabetized title lists.
The film premiered May 10, 2012 at Celebration! Cinema in Grand Rapids, Michigan, under the title "Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy".
Although the on-screen ending credits list "Copyright ©2011 Mickey Matson, LLC" (at 1:33:26), the U.S. Copyright Office records show the movie wasn't registered (PAu003654406) until October 31, 2012 with the title "Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy", with date of creation 2012, and with a DVD as its description. This was well after its May 10, 2012 premiere. The on-screen 2011 reference dates from the premiere copy and the August 4, 2011 registration (PAu003569980) of an "Electronic file (eService)" of a "Dramatic work and music" with title "Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy" and with copyright claimant "Harold David Cronk" that probably included his screenplay.
Condensation of Mickey's breath, such as at 53:21 on the Screen Media DVD when Sully is looking through the stereoscopic viewer, corresponds to the late September, early October filming dates in Michigan.
