Macbeth may not be among my favorite Verdi,despite having among the best stories,but this 1976 La Scala Macbeth is absolutely terrific. Piero Capuccilli is in great voice and he brings out all complexities of the character of Macbeth. Shirley Verrett is passionate and ambitious Lady Macbeth and her sleepwalking scene is truly so sad. Sets and costumes do bring out the atmosphere of this story. Banquo and Macduff also are able to bring to us all emotions of their characters(especially amazing Nikolai Ghiaurov as Banquo). Macbeth also has a very atmospheric ending ,which is brought amazingly here. Overall,definetely a Macbeth to cherish and among my favorite productions of this opera.10/10.
