A muse, a mother, a fashionista, an actor, a rock ‘n’ roll icon — it’s hard to describe exactly why Anita Pallenberg remains such a compelling figure more than a half-century after the captivating blonde sang backing vocals on the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” and starred in movies like “Performance” and “Barbarella.”
The new documentary “Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg” delves into both the beautiful and tragic moments of her eventful life with the help of a treasure trove of home movies and interviews, as well as an unpublished memoir penned by Pallenberg and narrated by Scarlett Johansson. The footage is coupled with interviews of the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, with whom she had a significant relationship, their children Marlon and Angela Richards, director Volker Schlondorff, who cast her in some of his films, and her former friends and associates.

Actress Estelle Harris has died at the age of 93 of natural causes. “It is with the greatest remorse and sadness to announce that Estelle Harris has passed on this evening at 6:25pm,” her son Glen Harris said in a statement to Deadline. “Her kindness, passion, sensitivity, humor, empathy and love were practically unrivaled, and she will be terribly missed by all those who knew her.” She is also survived by two more children, three grandsons, and a great-grandson. Harris was best known for her role as George Costanza’s (Jason Alexander) mother, Estelle, on Seinfeld (1989-1998) and appeared in 27 episodes, with her first coming in Season 4 with “The Contest.” (Her last episode was the series finale.) Rupert Grint had some of his best experiences while portraying Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film series, but that isn't to say that every moment was magical. During an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast on March 8, Grint spoke with Dax Shepard about some of the more "suffocating" moments in his 10 years as the character. "There was a time where it felt quite suffocating because it was heavy going, because it was every day for 10 years in the end," Grint said. "It was a great experience, such a nice kind of family atmosphere. It was always the same crew we kind of grew up with, so it was a great place to be. But sometimes it definitely felt like, 'I want to do something else, see what else is out there.'"
At the time Grint was cast as Ron, around 2001, only four books had been published and two movies had been planned.

In the Netflix biopic “The Dirt,” Pete Davidson of “Saturday Night Live” fame portrays A&R exec Tom Zutaut, the man who signed Motley Crue to Elektra and Guns N’ Roses to Geffen, while veteran character actor David Costabile is manager Doc McGhee. They follow in a long and illustrious line of label executives portrayed on screen, ranging from critical and box-office hits like “Ray” and “La Bamba” to lesser-seen music pics like “Cbgb” and “The Runaways.” Here’s our list of 10 of the most memorable:
1. Steven Coogan as Tony Wilson (“24 Hour Party People”). Coogan’s brilliant portrayal of the Manchester icon and Factory Records founder in Michael Winterbottom’s 2002 film also includes great turns from Paddy Considine as Rob Gretton, the manager of Joy Division and New Order who passed away in 1999, and “Lord of the Rings” star Andy Serkis as Martin Hannett, the noted producer and Factory partner...

Executive produced by famously Christian retired football player Tim Tebow, “Run the Race” operates differently than most faith-based productions, in the apparent hopes of reaching a younger, wider audience that may or may not be inherently interested in religious entertainment.
Directed by Chris Dowling, this is unequivocally a message-pushing drama, but one with a subtler touch and more artistic merit than many of its thematically linked predecessors.
Its kinetic opening sequence is a sharply edited series of shots following high-school quarterback Zach Truett, as he scores nearly half a dozen touchdowns on game night to get noticed by a Florida Gators scout. All of it is set to rap music and executed with unexpected cinematic flair; in fact, the movie’s first act plays as though this were a secular sports movie.

Exclusive: Ruth Negga Reveals the Surprising Punk Rock Inspiration for Her Badass Role on 'Preacher'
In AMC's gothic action dramedy Preacher, Ruth Negga stars as the hard-drinking, tough-as-nails Tulip O'Hare, and despite the delicate nature of the flower she shares her name with, Tulip proves time and again she's not someone to be messed with.
The actress recently sat down with Et during a press junket promoting the second season of the acclaimed series, where Negga opened up about the surprising real-life icons who inspired her performance -- and revealed how her character is a far cry from how Tulip appeared in the comic book series Preacher is based on.
In the comics, Tulip is a skinny, blonde white woman who is getting her life back on track after kicking her drug habit. In the TV series, Tulip bites a man's ear off while fighting him in runaway car careening through a field and then kills him with an ear of corn. Then, she builds a bazooka out of tin cans and...

"You're a wizard, Harry!"
It's hard to believe it's been 15 years since we first heard Robbie Coltrane deliver that line in character as Rubeus Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the first of what would turn into eight total fantasy films based on the beloved "Harry Potter" book series by J.K. Rowling.
Nov. 16, 2001 marked the day the world was introduced to Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley. Potterheads quickly fell in love with their unbreakable bond on-screen, which was noticeably just as strong when the cameras weren't rolling.

In celebration of the franchise's 15th anniversary, Et's taking you back in time to the trio's first moments together at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, to see just how far these talented stars have come since their Gryffindor days.

“Whatever happens tonight, I remain confused.”
Vinyl closes its first season by cutting back and forth between Richie and Zak across a crowded room. It’s meant to remind us that the two men share a few too many secrets, and that the burden of guilt on Richie’s shoulders is far from lifted. It’s also almost completely flat, just like the preceding sequence in which Richie tells his employees and musicians to go nuts and spray-paint the label’s offices. The chaos he unleashes mirrors what he experienced in the pilot at the New York Dolls concert, but here there’s no raw-nerved depiction of the connection between music and listener to land the hullabaloo.
Nor is the stuff those close-ups on Cannavale and Romano are trying to remind us of all that interesting. The mob plot has potential, and in moments like Zak’s shit-smeared shoe abandoned...

Every Monday my Facebook feed is filled with people kvetching about Vinyl, the new HBO series created by Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winters. Every criticism I see is valid (the pace is slow, the characters and the situations in which they find themselves are unbelievable), but I still kind of like it.
If you haven’t watched, you should know that Vinyl is about a record company struggling through the changes in music and culture in the early mid-1970s. I moved to New York full time a few years later, so perhaps some of the reason I like it is that it reminds me of my lost youth.
Bobby Cannavale plays Richie Finestra, the head of the company, a drug addict with no moral code (is that redundant?) who uses people in his pursuit of money and more drugs. We are supposed to believe that his love...

Bar None: Van Groeningen Returns to Musical Inclinations for Vibrant Sibling Portrait
Belgian auteur Felix Van Groeningen, the front runner of the Belgian New Wave, returns with his fifth feature, Belgica, a portrait of two estranged brothers reuniting to open a successful night club, an experience forcing them to reexamine both their shortcomings and sometimes toxic enabling of each other’s worst tendencies. The film follows a career high for Van Groeningen, who scored an international breakout with 2013’s The Broken Circle Breakdown, another musically inclined drama which netted him an Oscar nod for Best Foreign Language Film. Though his latest still includes unpredictable emotional highs and lows within a familiar set of family and friends, his latest is more sobering by comparison. 2016 has gotten off to a brutal start for great British entertainers. As the world gets over the death of David Bowie a few days ago, it has been set in shock again as acting legend Alan Rickman has died in London.
Rickman had been suffering from cancer and his death was confirmed on Thursday by his family. It's the worst kind of coincidence - Bowie and Rickman were 69 years old and passed after battling cancer, and a week before that British musician Lemmy also passed away from cancer just days after turning 70.
Rickman's distinct features and immediately identifiable diction were admired by generations of actors and made him synonymous with playing antagonists - something he famously wasn't a fan of as he preferred to play the dashing leading man role which he did manage to do in some of his work.

Richard Lloyd, by way of credentials, was one of the guitarists on Television’s Marquee Moon (Tom Verlaine was the other), which is just about the best guitar album to come out of the original New York Cbgb’s scene. Lloyd, who’s 64, doesn’t gig much these days, but he does teach guitar. It’s punk rock at Champagne prices — a hundred bucks per hourlong lesson — but it’s something else, too. You take a guitar lesson because you want to learn to play. You take a guitar lesson from Richard Lloyd because you hope he’ll reveal whatever magic he used to conjure those magnificent, spiraling Marquee Moon solos.About a week after I scheduled time with Lloyd via the email address on his website, I took the train to his fifth-floor Inwood walk-up. Last year’s slate of seventeen Narrative Premieres (excluding secret screenings of Boyhood and Nymphomaniac: Vol. I) refreshingly included works from first time filmmakers. I hadn’t seen it coming but Little Accidents and The One I Love were included among the likes of Calvary, Frank and Love is Strange. 2015 will be a true we Swanberg family affair with Joe Swanberg joining wife Kris (Unexpected) with a feature as well in Digging for Fire. James Ponsoldt is officially four for four with Sundance — his latest End of the Tour should be a slam dunk for the Eccles. Sticking to the numbers game… we’ll have a lovely bedfellow pairings of Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s already announced The Stanford Prison Experiment which is going to be mentioned in many loglines alongside Michael Almereyda’s Experimenter - about the Milgram experiment. Among the filmmaking duos we were expecting, we find Mississippi Grind...

Festival top brass have revealed a high-profile roster of out-of-competition Premieres and Documentary Premieres entries featuring many returning heroes, as well as a new Special Events section and panel participants including George Lucas.
Justin Kelly’s I Am Michael is likely to become a major talking point and stars James Franco and Zachary Quinto in the true tale of activist and Young Gay America co-founder Michael Glatze, who renounced his homosexuality and became a Christian pastor. The Exchange handles international rights.
James Ponsoldt’s David Foster Wallace film End Of The Tour (pictured, photo by Jakob Ihre) starring Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel makes the cut — Fortitude International is the international sales agent — as does the latest from the newly prolific Noah Baumbach, whose Mistress America stars his Frances Ha and Greenberg muse Greta Gerwig and arrives three months after the Toronto premiere of While We’re Young.

The Sundance Institute effectively filled out its slate for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival with the announcement of the always star-friendly premieres category. It's also where many former Sundance filmmakers bring their second, third and even fourth films back to the fest. This year the category features 16 world premieres and almost all of them are from Sundance alumni, including Ryan Fleck ("Half Nelson"), Noah Baumbach ("The Squid and the Whale"), Joe Swanberg ("VHS"), Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite"), James Ponsoldt ("The Spectacular Now"), Michael Almereyda (2000's "Hamlet"), Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives"), Benson Lee ("Miss Monday"), Leslye Headland ("Bachelorette"), and Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman ("American Splendor"). Some of the intriguing titles include Paul Weitz's "Grandma" with Lily Tomlin and Laverne Cox, Ryan Fleck and Anna Bowden's "Mississippi Grind" with Ryan Reynolds and Sienna Miller, Garcia's "Last Days in the Desert" featuring Ewan McGregor as Jesus, Charles Stone III's "Lila...

Exclusive: New, surprising details have emerged about the on-set death of 27-year-old camerawoman Sarah Jones during the first day of filming on Midnight Rider. Crew members were not told about an email from railroad owner Csx denying them permission to shoot on the Doctortown train trestle in rural Georgia, as at least 20 members piled onto the tracks 25 to 30 feet above the water under dangerous conditions led by director Randall Miller. See newly released pictures below to see (up close) the train tracks they shot on and the small walkway. The train accident left Jones dead and eight others injured, three of them hospitalized. Specific details of what happened on the tracks on the afternoon of February 20 were revealed in a play-by-play report by the Department of Labor’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration, which was considered the lead investigating body on the case.

Iconoclast at Michiko Studios, 10/17/14
Iconoclast -- neither the hardcore punk band nor the metal band of that name, rather the New York-based duo of Julie Joslyn (alto saxophone, violin, vocals) and Leo Chiesa (drums, keyboard, vocals) – formed in 1987 and ever since has combined avant-garde conceptualist with post-punk attitude ever since, playing at Cbgb but also the European festival circuit, and making nine albums. The most recent, this year's Naked Rapture, was heavily featured when they played at Michiko Studios on Friday, October 17. Hometown shows having become more of a rarity than they used to be, I made sure to catch it.
Joslyn kicked the set off with a three-note sax theme that repeated, then blasted off in a thunder of drums and alto squall. Then she suddenly switched to frenetic nonsense vocals that ended with a scream, at which point it was back to sax. Chiesa started the next number solo with a stark,...

Exclusive: Criminal charges have been filed against Midnight Rider first assistant director Hillary Schwartz in the February 20 death of camera assistant Sarah Jones. Schwartz was charged September 10 with involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass, the same two counts filed against director Randall Miller and producers Jody Savin and Jay Sedrish. Under Georgia law, a manslaughter conviction would carry a sentence of 10 years in prison. Criminal trespass is a misdemeanor and carries a potential sentence of one year.
This will come as no surprise to Hollywood’s production community, who understand that one responsibility of the 1st Ad is to help keep the crew safe on set. Schwartz was on set the day of the accident, though location manager Charley Baxter refused to show up because the production had not obtained permission to access the train tracks and made his opposition known to several crew members before the shoot.

In an exclusive interview with Deadline, a crew member who suffered serious injuries on an earlier film by Midnight Rider director-producers Randall Miller and Jody Savin has called their “safety first” claims “a lie.” Katie Dover, a costumer who was hurt on the set of Miller and Savin’s 2013 film Cbgb during pre-production, says Miller and Savin’s recent statements regarding safety on their films don’t jibe with her experience. Days ago, Midnight Rider director Miller and his wife-producer Savin — two of the three filmmakers charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Jones — went on the record stating that since […]...

A full trailer has been released for writer and director Justin Simien's Sundance hit, Dear White People. I've heard a lot of fantastic things about this movie, which is a comedic satire about race relations in modern America. I really like the humor that I'm seeing in the trailer, and this looks like a really entertaining movie worth checking out. Here's a synopsis for the movie:
Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, Dear White People is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. Writer/director Justin Simien follows a group of African American students as they navigate campus life and racial politics at a predominantly white college in a sharp and funny feature film debut that earned him a spot on Variety’s annual “10 Directors to Watch.”

And then there were none. The death of original Ramones drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member TommyRamone (nee Erdelyi) at the age of 65, following treatment for cancer of the bile duct, brings to an end one of punk rock's enduring myths, and like the band's two-minutes-and-a-cloud-of-dust repertoire, it's one that leaves us all just a little earlier than expected. Dave Frey, who works for Ramones Productions and Silent Partner Management, confirmed that he died on Friday. Frey didn't have additional details. Ramone was 65. Dear White People was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see, but I've been hearing nothing but great things. The movie is a comedic satire about race relations in modern America, and it was written and directed by Justin Simien. As you'll see in the trailer, he's willing take on sensitive topics and bring some humor to it. Here's a synopsis for the movie:

You know, at the very beginning I was a fan of Law & Order: Svu. It probably goes without saying that I’m not inclined to be a fan of anything after 40 or 50 seasons (or whatever this show is on), but beyond the general boredom of a show that has outlived its usefulness, Svu started going downhill after two seasons, and simply wasn’t the same show anymore.
Well, whatever, such is my humble anyway.
As if to specifically mess with me, the show is now forcing me to watch it again, as Donal Logue has been given a recurring role. Fresh off of three of the coolest shows, and roles, you’re going to run into (Copper, Vikings, and Sons of Anarchy), Logue will continue the role as acting commander of the Svu.
The show returns on the 30th, and the Grey’s Anatomy-esque fun continues as Mariska Hargitay‘s character…...

Questionable Safety History of Midnight Rider Production Company Lends New Light to Sarah Jones Case
A few more details have emerged over at Deadline regarding the on-set negligence that led to 2nd AC Sarah Jones’ death in Doctortown, Ga. Midnight Rider was the third feature to be shot in the Savannah area by director Randall Miller and his Unclaimed Freight production company, and it appears that this tragic instance of reckless conduct was no isolated incident. During filming of 2012′s Cbgb, Miller and his crew reportedly dropped a grand piano down a homeowner’s staircase without permission, and went the entire shoot without a safety bulletin. This year's edition of New York Magazine's Annual Yesteryear Issue, out this week, looks at a century of New York City music. You can read music critic Jody Rosen's essay on those 100 years, listen to his 100-song playlist, or listen to his and New York Magazine culture editor Lane Brown's appearances this week on Wnyc's "Soundcheck." On Monday, Rosen talked about why the city has been the center of American music for so long. On Tuesday, he talked about Tin Pan Alley and why the 1920s is the New York City musical decade he's most nostalgic for. On Wednesday, Brown talked about Bob Dylan, salsa music, and the Velvet Underground. And yesterday, Jennifer Vineyard, who interviewed many of the artists in the issue, talked about Cbgb and New York of the 1970s. Listen below:...

As told to Kera Bolonik. I went to Laguardia High School—then The High School of Music & Art—in the 1970s, and in those days David Bowie, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed, were the biggest things ever. My best friend Susannah asked me if I wanted to go see Patti Smith, and I just didn’t really get rock-and-roll music at that time—I couldn’t relate to it. I liked the acoustic guitar. I grew up on the Upper West Side in an apartment, the oldest of four kids, with rebellious parents who made a lot of noise, so I didn’t want to stand around making a lot of noise. I preferred to take my guitar and go into my room and write quiet songs in A minor. That seemed more like me. So that’s partly why I didn’t go down to the Cbgb scene. I...

As told to Jennifer Vineyard Chris: Our first show was opening for the Ramones at Cbgb. We had been going to Cbgb from pretty much the first night we moved to New York. One weekend Patti Smith performed, and she didn’t really have a band together. It was just Patti and Lenny Kaye on guitar, and it was really exciting. Totally a beatnik thing, which I loved. Lenny was just playing out of a little tiny amplifier, and Patti was doing versions of the songs from her first album, but they were kinda raw. And then I went back the following weekend, and the Ramones played. And the Ramones were also in their formative stages, and they would stop and argue with each other in the middle of a song! But when they were playing, it was so great. To my way of thinking, it was really advanced artistically,...

Young Master Wayne and Selina Kyle, Aka Catwoman, have been chosen for Fox’s Batman prequel, Gotham. David Mazouz will play the tragedy-stricken Bruce, shortly after the murder of his parents and now under the care of Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee). Mazouz is best known for his role in Fox’s short-lived, Ascap Award-winning sci-fi series Touch alongside Keifer Sutherland and Danny Glover. That show managed two seasons before being cancelled. Portraying pre-Catwoman Selina will be Camren Bicondova, a relative newcomer to Hollywood, whose major claim to fame is being a runner-up on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew with her group, 8 Flavahs. She has also appeared in small roles in the horror flick Girlhouse and Cinedigm’s dance drama Battlefield America. Bicondova’s role as Selina will be as another orphaned teenager, well on her way to master thief as an expert pickpocket living on the streets of Gotham. With...
