The Famicom Disk System version of this game was the second-to-last game for the peripheral. With the exception of her catchphrase in Puyo Puyo CD, the fighting queen Rulue (Lulu in the English release) is the only character without any voice clips. This is because the voices in this game were taken from Madou Monogatari 123 (3 dark dungeon crawler games) where Arle didn't fight her head-on. There is a voice clip carried over from Madou Monogatari 123 where Arle shouts "D-D-Diacute", but it got scrapped. The Genesis version actually had a prototype of this game that was WAY different from the final release. Puyo Puyo is one of two Game Gear titles to adapt to Game Gears not from Japan.
