Pretty standard Found Footage Possession Film

I want to start by expressing how impressed both my wife and I were at the presentation by the filmmakers at the premiere. From the barf bags to the holy water given to every person who watched the premiere of the movie, the filmmakers made sure to help every viewer feel like part of excitement and celebration of the movie release. The question and answer portion after the film was interesting and most everyone I saw there seemed to be very happy by the end. My thanks and props to everyone involved.

Now for the review of the movie itself... It was a pretty standard Found Footage Possession Film. One thing that stood out, was the exceptional acting by the actress who portrayed the young daughter. Wow! Great job! I really hope to see her in more movies in the future. I think she has a very promising career ahead of her, if she chooses to continue acting. I rated the movie 2 stars more than I felt it deserves based on the story and quality of the film, because of the acting of that actress. I suggest watching the movie. It was not as bad as most Found Footage Possession Films.

Complete waste of time

A disaster from start to finish. The acting was laughably bad, with the cast delivering their lines so poorly it seemed like they were struggling to stay in character. At times, the actors looked like they were holding back laughter, completely ruining any sense of fear or tension.

And what was with the random priest kiss? It was absurd and out of place and added nothing to the story and made the movie feel even more disjointed. The special effects were amateurish at best, and the plot made little sense from beginning to end.

There were also moments that destroyed the immersion, like when Anna, supposedly in the middle of a possession, casually adjusted her nightgown as if nothing was happening. Moments like these highlighted how rushed and sloppy the production was.

It felt like the filmmakers were sloppy or simply didn't care. Overall, *Name the Demon* is a poorly made film that's better left unwatched.

Where to start?

I'm not sure which is worse between the dialogue and the acting. I'd swear this was done by college students or even high schoolers. I will skip personal attacks but will state that the acting was atrocious.

What was the completely unnecessary part about trying to kiss the cameraman??

If there was anything at all scary in this flick I completely missed it. A complete Exorcist ripoff without character development.

How was it even stretched to 1.25 hours except for repeated lines about "you have to tell us about ...."

Advice to viewers: pass on this one.

Advice to filmmakers: Please just stick to podcasting.

Time you will never get back

Atrocious writing, poorly acted (except the possessed woman, who was not terrible and the daughter, I guess), ludicrous conceits at every turn.

The one fun thing was the battery life on the camera being on screen at all times, It heartened me to watch it dwindle and bolstered my resolve to see this move through to the end. Watching the battery deplete was the best part of this film.

Thankfully, it was short. It could have been even shorter if we didn't have 10 minutes of one character's pointless searching of the basement while breathing directly into the microphone, but considering the rest of the movie it wasn't the low point.

Don't waste your time

The trailer is deceiving. Minutes in, you're completely distracted by the horrendous acting. The actors seem like they were randomly pulled off the street and told to recite lines. Nothing feels authentic, the lines are choppy, and the delivery is egregious. Save yourself the 1 hour +, and choose a different movie. I spent the $5 rental, and felt the need to write this review to save someone money.

If you're a horror movie buff like me, or even just someone who enjoys watching movies, you'll be more disappointed in this film than dropping your brand new delicious ice cream cone on the ground moments after buying it.

Gets the Job Done

Is it perfect? No, but it's an Indie film. But you'll at least be entertained and I think you may even like it more than you might guess at first. The way it's told certainly isn't for everyone but I think it takes the right person who enjoys horror movies and has run out of mainstream options. It's that time of year to be watching these types of movies so enjoy it while you can because after October it'll be Christmas movies until January. I also think the directors have a unique flare for making something that isn't quite conventional and it may not be for everyone but is for the right type of fan.

A solid if somewhat problematic found-footage effort

Forced into a house call, a team of exorcists arrive at the home of a query looking to perform the ritual which soon sets the group on a series of exploits trying to keep her from harming herself or those in the house with her while they attempt the fateful exorcism that will save her.

This was a really enjoyable if somewhat problematic genre effort. Among the better setups with this one is the series of exploits that go on involving the possession and all of the antics that follow. Featuring a strong setup to bring the group out to the house and why they need to keep filming everything which gives this a great cover for the found-footage format to follow, this one gets rather interesting as things play out involving the priests trying to get a handle on the situation the more they visit her. This leads into the first of several encounters within the house where the exorcism attempt tries to save her which goes through the usual epithet of exorcism films with the priests spouting the usual declarations of faith to God while the possessed writhes around on the bed spouting vulgarities about the hidden truth of the meeting behind everyone. This all comes together to provide quite a lot of fun in the final half when it gets to the released entity stalking them through the darkened house using only the camera for light as there are some genuinely unnerving scenes here involving the supernatural powers it has being put to good use all giving the film a lot to like about it. There are a few issues present with this one. The biggest drawback to the film is the bizarre series of different behaviors exhibited at the start of everything that tries to paint a specific picture of everything going on. The initial scenes of the crew arriving at the house and meeting the antagonistic father and his reactions to everything make little sense as if everything appeared out of nowhere despite repeated claims of being there due to him summoning them, when the situation is broached only leads to snarky comments about the nature of the church. It's all unnatural and confusing enough when this confrontational attitude continually presents itself to the point where it's pretty hard to trust what's going on. That becomes even worse when the series of revelations come about which only enhance that further as this brings about a series of generic and expected setpieces about relationships rather than doing what they set out to do in figuring out the name of the demonic figure possessing her. That's not even brought up once it was presented and instead turns this into a run-of-the-mill exorcism tale despite how much fun these scenes are. These factors are what end up holding this down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

A Must-Watch For Found Footage Fans

I was immediately hooked by this film's style. It delivers spine-chilling tension that keeps you on edge the entire time. But what really sets this movie apart is how every viewing will offer something new. There are hidden details in the background that I missed the first time around. I really enjoyed it and the characters are very believable. If you love a movie that gets under your skin and leaves you thinking after the credits, this one is for you! If you're a found footage fan like me, this is a must-watch for the scares and awesome effects! Not to mention it appears as though it were shot it one take - not something you see very often!

A great found footage possession movie!!

A fantastic straight forward entry in the sub genre of found footage possession movies ( there aren't many) tons of Easter eggs and nods to classic horror movies we love.

A genuinely creepy and terrifying possessed woman that I check around. The house for to make sure she isn't lurking about! Excited to see what they make next! The story is solid and pretty straight forward but has some layers and depth unlike some other movies i can't BELIEVE(R) were made...the pacing is great because it doesn't take too long to get going and once it does it doesn't really let off the gas.

It's tough to find good possession movies so definitely give this one a watch!

Great film for it's budget

I really enjoyed it, the enclosed claustrophobic atmosphere fit perfectly with this story. The practical effects were what stood out the most for me, so many big budget films overuse CGI and it makes it look too cosmetic. What this pulled off was what Sam Raimi did in Evil Dead, I believe that was definitely inspiration for this film, I can't spoil anything examples, but if you watch this film you'll know what I'm talking about.

I hope to see more from these filmmakers and the two actors Danny and Scotty, horror genre fits them perfectly as I know they're huge fans of it.

Check this film out and enjoy what will be a cult classic.

Found footage hidden gem

Demonic possession/ exorcism movies are usually my least favorite sub genre when it comes to horror. I think it's over done and the same thing every movie.

With that being said, name the demon really does something different and gives you an extremely memorable third act.

This is a pretty low budget indie but they definitely put the money into the right areas with this one.

Joe Castro is the make up FX artist here so that alone should get you excited. This one goes pretty hard in the third act and did some things I wasn't expecting.

Don't trust the 3.5 rating because this one is definitely worth a watch.

Terrific indie horror film

I really enjoyed this little gem of an indie horror film. The actors all were just terrific. For me, that can really make or break a horror film. Especially a film dealing with this type of subject matter. Well, I'm glad to say these actors pulled it off. They nailed it! They grabbed me out of the gate and didn't let go! Well done folks. My hat's off to writer/director Carmelo Chimera. The story is really compelling and the pace of the film is quite good. I found no dead spots. No flat spots. I didn't find my mind drifting off. That's a big deal for me. So for me, I for sure give this film a big thumb's up!

A Unique Found Footage Possession Movie

True horror fans will enjoy this unique possession movie! Great special effects for a lower budget films and great performances from the actors! A few plot holes, but what horror movie doesn't have them!?

Jessi Nerud, Danny Bohnen, Scotty Bohnen, & Scott Moore gave great performances. If you like this movie this director and cast did another good horror movie called Sin Eater, which has a really cool premise and back story as well.

Found footage films often miss the mark but this one did not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and watch this low budget, horror found footage film it is definitely worth the short run time!
