Line Sisters

Let me start by saying this movie is hilarious. The plot is ridiculous. The characters are so funny. The scenes are so random. There's this one scene where they just break into a full on dance battle. It's amazing. Ultimately, if you don't take this too seriously, you'll enjoy it. It's not an amazing thriller, but it's a pretty decent comedy.

I do want to emphasize that it's unlike any lifetime movie I've ever seen before, which is part of the reason it's so good, imo. However, if you want a typical lifetime thriller, this won't satisfy you. It really plays up the comedy, so do with that information what you will.

This film begins with five college students pledging for their sorority and having to endure a hazing ritual in the process. During this time, one of the pledges by the name of "Brianne" (Morgan Alexandria) is called out lying about her mother being a former member of that sorority and as a result she is expelled from the group. Needless to say, she is devasted by this news and her sorrow is amplified by the fact that none of her friends even bother to step forward and defend her. Be that as it may, immediately after she departs, the initiation ceremony proceeds with the other four young ladies being taken to a lake where they are normally required to swim to a certain marker in order to pass the final test and be allowed into the Alpha Beta Omega sorority. However, it's during this time that they are informed by their sorority sister named "Jodi" (Teesha Renee) that this final test has been cancelled as it is too dangerous and all that is required for them to gain entry is to drink from the lake instead. Although this news is greeted with approval by three of the pledges, the fourth one--by the name of "Simona" (Ta'Rhonda Jones)--is quite displeased as she wanted the satisfaction of enduring the full treatment like all of her sorority sisters in the past. So, Jodi relents and lets them swim out to the marker. However, it's during this time that one of them gets into trouble, which then requires Jodi to swim out to save her. Unfortunately, Jodi drowns in the process, and this causes serious repercussions many years later for all concerned. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that, while I don't consider this to be a terribly bad film, several scenes lacked the necessary realism to warrant rating this movie any higher than I have.

There's a reason it's a lifetime movie. You could take bets on how long you'll make it into this. Good acting and writing should be the primary goal of making a movie, not ticking certain boxes.

Finally a lifetime movie where the dialogue doesn't sound forced! This movie has some genuinely funny scenes. It's a nice thriller with a twist. I was able to relate to the characters. This movie was different from the other lifetime movies- stay at home mom of a spoiled teenager and workaholic husband who somehow can afford bills on a 7 bedroom house in one income and she solves this mystery alone...this movie was not like that.

I had never hearda bout this 2022 movie titled "Line Sisters" before I had the opportunity to watch it. So I wasn't sure what I was in for here, nor what I should or could expect from writers Jasmin S. Greene and Scott Mullen.

However, I opted to watch "Line Sisters" on the account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen. And I do believe in giving a movie a fair chance.

The storyline is pretty straight forward, but the writers didn't really include much of anything to spruce up the storyline, so it was a pretty bland movie experience.

Director Tailiah Breon managed to put together a movie that was watchable, albeit somewhat bland and not particularly memorable or outstanding. "Line Sisters" is the type of movie that you watch once and then never return to.

The acting performances in the movie were fairly good. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble here, but I will say that they actually carried the movie quite nicely, despite the fact that the script they had to work with was a bit weak.

My rating of "Line Sisters" lands on a four out of ten stars.
