The Rookie fans, you have the right to remain invested in Nolan and Bailey’s budding relationship. Jenna Dewan has been promoted to series regular on the ABC cop procedural, our sister site Deadline reports.
When TVLine spoke with showrunner Alexi Hawley ahead of The Rookie‘s fourth season, he said at the time, “Miss Dewan is recurring, but we love her and we’re using her a lot. I love that [Bailey] basically is a Swiss Army knife of careers and jobs. So we will see her as a firefighter, we’ll see her do a little fighting from her Capoeira instruction,...

Despite the extra beef, Jake Gyllenhaal fails to connect in this by-the-numbers boxing flick
The boxing movie is the ultimate temptation for screen actors keen to prove their macho mettle. Playing a pugilist can be faked, but if you want to look really convincing, you have to pump up – and, if things are done authentically, you can never be sure that your pretty face won’t be irreversibly modified in the process. The main draw of Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw is the metamorphosis undergone by Jake Gyllenhaal, who spent five months in training to transform himself into a lumbering, mumbling slab of battered meatloaf.
Gyllenhaal is as intense as you might expect playing champion bruiser Billy Hope, who has it all, loses it all, then hits that much-slogged Hollywood highway Redemption Road. Despite some ferociously Scorsese-esque effects in the showdowns that bookend the film, Southpaw is closer to Rocky than to Raging Bull,...

Hey folks, Catherine here. In this week's installment of The Shipping News: addressing the allegations that slash is a "white boys club", travels to the wonderful land of slash roleplay, and taking a closer look at the Mark/Eduardo fandom (no chicken was harmed in the process.)
Fandom News Roundup:
The Thorin/Bilbo (The Hobbit) fandom keeps growing and, dare I say, has already reached epic proportions on Tumblr--especially for a pairing that emerged a little over seventy-five years after Tolkien's novel was published. Supernatural finally returns this week! We can expect a Dean/Castiel team-up and appearances by Crowley and Samandriel Alfie. We've also been told that Wednesday's episode might involve torture. If the strangely sexually charged Dean/Alistair interrogation scene from season 4 is any indication of how this will go, it could get...interesting.
Hey, did you know that Teen Wolf's Dylan O'Brien (Stiles Stilinski) is...

American actor best known for his film role as the gentle giant in The Green Mile
Every character actor who has ever been typecast dreams of a role that will transcend the cliches of his image. For Michael Clarke Duncan, who has died aged 54 of complications from a heart attack suffered in July, that breakout role also drew on the hidden truth of his own personality, and the results were spectacular.
Duncan was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor in The Green Mile (1999), the film of the Stephen King story in which he plays John Coffey, a gentle giant with extraordinary powers, on death row for raping and killing two young girls. The film's climax, when Coffey, innocent of the crimes but having punished the real killer and an evil guard, goes to the electric chair telling Tom Hanks not to put a hood over his head because...

We take a look back at the work of the much loved star of The Green Mile, who died yesterday
Michael Clarke Duncan's move from bodyguard duties into acting was pretty seamless: lots of bit parts in TV shows and films like Back in Business, Bulworth and The Players Club came his way, all of the "bouncer", "body builder" and "security guard" variety. His big break came after he stopped real-life minding, and scored a role in Jerry Bruckheimer's epic space-disaster movie Armageddon. Though only one of the squad guys, he earned instant immortality with his "you the man" utterance in the final climactic sequence. (It's at 4:48.)
And anyone supposing he was the new Ving Rhames was put to rights in the scene where Duncan began frugging in leopardskin underpants - it's even more effective with the Spanish dubbing.
But it was his subsequent casting in The Green Mile,...

From Gerri Miller and Mother Nature Network:
In keeping with the network's green initiatives, the set of Fox's new series "The Finder" has an eco-friendly set, with no plastic water bottles available. "I'm a big proponent of that," says creator Hart Hanson. The "Bones" spinoff starring Geoff Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan premieres Jan. 12, and will follow the "American Idol" results show starting the following week. "Not bad," acknowledges Duncan, thankful but aware they can't rely on riding coattails. "We have to make a name for ourselves."
Duncan, who's been putting his hulking form and booming voice to use on screen since his breakout role in "The Green Mile," was Hanson's first choice to play bar owner Leo Knox, the bodyguard/sidekick/best buddy to Stults' Walter Sherman. "I was looking for a TV show because I'd never done one before," says the actor, who bonded right away with his co-star.

Delivering a powerful, distinct and enlightening message in film is a rare commodity in today's Hollywood scene, according to acclaimed actor-director Mario Van Peebles. The "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song" star hopes that's what he has delivered in his latest directorial effort, "Redemption Road," which stars Michael Clarke Duncan, Luke Perry and Morgan Simpson, among others.
The Tennessee-set drama tells a tale of two men from distinct backgrounds embarking on a music-steered journey through the deep south who are then linked by a series of events that took place years earlier.
“One of the things that drew me to it was it has life affirming quality to it. You see a lot of films where you don’t care for the people and you’re watching them do things, but it just doesn’t help us out,” Van Peebles told The Huffington Post. “Dr. [Martin Luther] King said, ‘We either learn to live...

It's another slow August weekend at the movies... plenty of new releases, but none of them expected to drum up much business. Leading the way is the Luc Besson-produced action-thriller Colombiana starring Zoe Saldana, along with the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror remake Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and the Paul Rudd comedy Our Idiot Brother. In select theatres, we also have Vera Farmiga's Higher Ground, Rowan Joffe's Brighton Rock, and Mario Van Peebles' Redemption Road. In addition, Sony is bringing Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris back out in wide release. Do you think The Help will be a repeat winner at the box office? What will you be watching this weekend? Title: Redemption Road Director: Mario Van Peebles Starring: Michael Clarke Duncan, Morgan Simpson, Tom Skerritt, Kiele Sanchez, Luke Perry, Taryn Manning At times, a film will come in boasting (or relying on) a major weapon to entertain audiences: For Avatar, it was the state-of-the-art 3D; most recently, The Help leaned on the brilliant performances by the ensemble cast. With “Redemption Road”…it’s the soundtrack. That’s not to say the other elements of this 90 minute feature are all flawed; but the smooth bluesy tunes will linger in your mind for days. In fact, many of the lyrics act as the narrator on this journey of forgiveness and second-chances. The story revolves...

The film is called Black, White and Blues, directed by Mr Mario Van Peebles and starring Michael Clarke Duncan, amongst others.
It’s full synopsis courtesy of Trailer Addict: Forced to grow up fast, Baily (played by Morgan Simpson), a troubled blues musician meanders through life. After one of his many drunken nights, a mysterious gentlemen approaches him, revealing that Bailey’s grandfather died and he must travel back to his home town to accept his unclaimed property. The gentleman, Augy (played by Duncan), has been hired by a law firm to find and connect Bailey with his rightful belongings.
Over the course of their road trip, Bailey’s own story unfolds, and the blues music he has always been connected with. Augy knows more about Baily than he lets on and, with his help, Bailey manages to use the music he has in his soul to take control of...

The summer is now fully here, and with it comes a new batch of summer TV shows –now that networks and cable alike have switched to a varied, year-round schedule that confuses even the professionals in the industry. Among them there are vampires, cops, families trying to fit in and many, many secrets. Of these new summer offerings, almost all of them have already aired –the only exception is Showtime’s The Big C, a show about cancer with Laura Linney that arrives August 16); some have even aired several episodes, so they can barely be called “new”, and some of their plots might have evolved. But I have tried to watch all those series’ pilots to find out what is good, what is bad, what is promising and what might stay or leave soon. Here it is:
(I recently updated this post, but there are still a few shows missing.
