Exclusive: Like mother, like daughter? Abbott Elementary fans will soon find out if the old adage rings true for Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) in an upcoming Season 4 episode.

Talia Shire, of The Godfather and Rocky fame, will appear as a guest star in Episode 8 as Teresa Schemmenti.

The episode is airing on December 4 as part of a one-hour holiday special featuring two back-to-back episodes.

It seems only fitting that the Italian-American actress, well known as Adrian Balboa from the Rocky franchise, would make an appearance in the Philly based comedy series. Shire, who has appeared in more than 40 film and television roles, is also famous for her role as Connie Corleone in The Godfather.

Exclusive: Abbott Elementary is still best in class in its fourth season.

The November 6 episode, which saw Gregory diffusing some tension with a parent and Melissa dealing with an injury, has amassed 6.33M cross-platform viewers in seven days of viewing, Disney says.

That’s up 210% from the live + same-day audience of 2.04M to be the best of the season and, in fact, is the highest multi-platform audience for Abbott since the show’s post-Oscars episode in March.

Among the key 18-49 demographic, the November 6 episode is up 689% to a 2.21 rating, according to Disney.

The series’ live + same-day audience has also been climbing over the past two weeks, after taking a dip after the Season 4 premiere to surpass the numbers for that episode. The November 13 episode, for which seven-day numbers are not yet available, actually surpassed the season’s premiere viewership with 2.2M viewers (compared to 2.1M for the premiere).

The creators of “Abbott Elementary” on ABC and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on Fxx announced at Vulture Fest on Saturday that their shows will cross over for a one-of-a-kind two-episode event that will go down in TV history.

The special collaboration will start with an episode of Abbott Elementary in January. Then, during the 17th season premiere of It’s Always Sunny in June, a companion episode will air. This is a new way to tell a story, as the same story will be told from two different points of view in both shows.

The crossover started with a joke on social media about how the two shows were alike. Fans of both shows pointed out the funny similarities between them, so Brunson talked about how she met Rob McElhenney, the author of “Always Sunny” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

With the biggest crossover to hit the City of Brotherly Love since cheese and steak, Quinta Brunson has shared some details about the upcoming Abbott Elementary cross with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

On Saturday at Vulture Fest, the Abbott star and creator revealed new details about the crossover event, which will feature one episode on each series, with the first airing early next year on the ABC sitcom.

“Our episode will air in January. So, it will be an Abbott Elementary episode,” explained Brunson. “But the first episode of Always Sunny — I don’t know when their episode’s gonna air, probably in June. Their episode will be their version of what happened in this storyline.”

With Season 4 of Abbott largely focused on gentrification in the school’s Philly neighborhood, and Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny premiering on Fxx in 2025, the plot details of the crossover are still unknown.

Maybe it was the extra gestational periods for some shows due to strike-related delays, maybe it is the newfound comfort-food appeal of broadcast fare this season that has middle schoolers binging shows like High Potential, but the new 2024-25 network scripted series have fared pretty well, with no outright flops among them.

Of course, some shows have done better than others — we’ve had our first Season 2 renewal and back orders this fall, all courtesy of CBS. Here is a rundown of the new fall 2024 live-action scripted series with details about how many episodes each will produce this season, news on Happy’s Place and Lopez vs Lopez additional script orders as well as explanation why Matlock got a Season 2 renewal and not a back order like the other freshman CBS series and why one of the biggest new series of the season, ABC’s High Potential, won’t produce more than 13 episodes.

They say laughter is the best medicine, so it’s a good thing the NBC comedy machine is back up and running this week, ready to cure those Americans currently suffering from a general sense of unease. Set at an understaffed hospital in Oregon, “St. Denis Medical” is a mockumentary seemingly constructed from the well-preserved remains of some of TV’s best and brightest workplace comedies, from “Parks and Recreation” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” to “The Office” and “Abbott Elementary.”

Created by Justin Spitzer (“Superstore”) and Eric Ledgin (“American Auto”), the series — the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Peacock — features a talented cast that includes Allison Tolman, Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, and Josh Lawson. By filtering its comedy through an issue affecting millions of Americans — the country’s broken healthcare system — “St. Denis Medical” is both topical and funny, making it the awards contender to watch this weekend.

In the latest TV show ratings, NBC’s Chicago Med was Wednesday’s most-watched program, while CBS’ Survivor dominated in the demo.

ABC | The yet-to-be-renewed Golden Bachelorette‘s season finale delivered 3.5 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating, marking season highs. Abbott Elementary (2.2 mil/0.3) in turn hit a season high in audience while putting up a fourth straight 0.3 rating.

That led to further success in movies like The Santa Clause, Galaxy Quest, and voicing Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story franchise.

The TikTok trend started in September after a user posted a clip from a Season 2 episode of “Gilmore Girls.” In it, Kirk (Sean Gunn), who has made a black-and-white short film, tells his girlfriend’s father, “I love your daughter.” When the father asks what he has to offer, Kirk says, “Nothing. Great news for Abbott Elementary fans, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans and everyone else desperate for both casts to shut up about their impending joint Philly spectacular: We finally have an airdate for the series’ highly-anticipated crossover episodes.

Though ABC’s official press release remained tight-lipped about what exactly fans can expect ahead of Abbott Elementary’s mid-season premiere on January 8th, The Wrap reported that the forecast is quite sunny, with our favorite band of TV teachers eyeing a trip to Paddy’s Pub on that specific day.

This date comes weeks after Abbott Elementary’s star and showrunner, Quinta Brunson, headed to Instagram to tout the two-episode crossover, confirming that the collab would air as a part of her sitcom’s fourth season with snaps of her seemingly having responded to the gang’s now-iconic “What Up?” flyer.

“The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Abbott Elementary” and now “St. Denis Medical,” the latest in a line of television workplace mockumentary comedies. Mentioning these previous titles shouldn’t be a knock against “St. Denis,” as it feels like it was designed to purposefully coast on these titles’ previously established rhythms, ensembles, dynamics and storylines. It’s a gentle, familiar-feeling show, and while it really works when it finds spiky, surprising and even uncomfortable ruffles to the formula, it plays pretty well when it’s just pulling it off too.

To describe the show’s world is as simple as saying “‘Modern Family’ but the family is doctors,” or “‘Scrubs’ but they’re aware of the camera.” The Emmy-nominated Allison Tolman (“Fargo”) leads an ensemble of medical professionals as our Leslie Knope-esque overachieving supervising nurse Alex.

The official announcement came via press release and included the first confirmation that Jennings would continue hosting the spinoff, not his former co-host Mayim Bialik. In their press release, ABC shared that the Celebrity Jeopardy! premiere will follow the series premiere of Shifting Gears and the highly anticipated Abbott Elementary/It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode. “New episodes of Celebrity Jeopardy!, hosted by Ken Jennings, and What Would You Do? round out the evening.” Jeopardy! producers recently shared that taping the star-studded spinoff was underway earlier this month and provided some details. ABC has announced their mid-season premiere dates for all of their TV shows!

There are actually some pretty significant changes to the schedule. First, the network has announced the premiere dates for some 2025 shows including Will Trent, The Rookie, American Idol, and The Bachelor. You may also notice The Conners is missing from the schedule. ABC has promised it will return sometime in March 2025.

In addition, some shows are switching timeslots, including High Potential and Abbott Elementary.

Furthermore, some Hulu TV shows will be airing on ABC this coming winter! The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini will both get broadcast premieres, as well as the second season of Only Murders in the Building.

After “Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Brunson teased earlier this year that the ABC sitcom would have a crossover episode in Season 4, a photo of Brunson, Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Danny DeVito, Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis together on the “Abbott” set in October confirmed the “Always Sunny” special.

The lines between Hulu and ABC (already programmed jointly under head Craig Erwich) continue to blur, as the Alphabet web unveiled a midseason schedule heavy on repurposed hits from the streamer. That includes the addition of Hulu’s “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” which will air on Mondays at 10 p.m. starting Jan. 27 following “The Bachelor.”

Also getting a broadcast run on ABC, starting Jan. 30: Hulu docuseries “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” which will air Thursdays at 10 p.m., leading out of ABC’s long-delayed true crime series “Scamanda.” Additionally, ABC will bring back Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” for another broadcast run (after running Season 1 in January 2024) — this time, Season 2 of the comedy will run Thursdays at 9 p.m. via two-hour blocks for the first four weeks of January 2025 (starting Jan. 2).

The latest season of The Bachelor kicks off on January 27 with a two-hour premiere at 8 p.m., as one of ABC’s several reality TV debuts in the new year.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is making its anticipated return to the network on January 2, with a new iteration of the series hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin.
