“Batwoman” alum Caroline Dries has been tapped as co-showrunner of Prime Video’s “Legally Blonde” prequel series.

Dries, who served as “Batwoman’s” showrunner and executive producer for the CW, will co-showrun “Elle” alongside creator Laura Kittrell, who also serves as co-showrunner and EP. Dries has been onboard the project since shortly after the series received the greenlight from the streamer.

The prequel series will follow Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first “Legally Blonde” film, per the official logline.

“Elle” is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, with additional EPs including Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt.

The show was formally greenlit at Amazon back in May. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Dries boarded the series shortly after the greenlight, but her involvement was not known publicly until now. She will showrun alongside series creator Laura Kittrell.

As previously announced, the show will follow a young Elle Woods during her high school years and show audiences “the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film,” per the official logline.

With over 15 million copies sold worldwide, the books follow the adventures of Cotton Malone, a former U.S. Justice Department agent turned antiquarian book dealer.

Malone is drawn back into the fold to uncover deep-seated secrets that threaten the future of the U.S. His quest leads him to thrilling international escapades, tackling enemies both foreign and domestic.

Brian Young, who created ‘Fate: The Winx Saga’ for Netflix and has worked on ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ will write and executive produce the series.

Steve Berry, alongside Patrick Moran and Lynley Bird of Pkm Productions, is also set to executive produce under their overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

There are currently 18 bestselling novels in the Cotton Malone series, which began with “The Templar Legacy” in 2006 and with “The Atlas Maneuver” being the most recently published in February 2024. The series has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. It is not currently known which book would serve as the basis for the first season of the show should it move forward at Amazon.

The retailing giant hopes to get consumers in the mood for Black Friday deals with a ten-part “series” of commercials that talk up great bargains that are available at its stores. Walmart has tapped actors including Taye Diggs, Lisa Rinna, Ian Somerhalder, Anthony Ramos, Chad Michael Murray Jake Shane and Walton Goggins to take part in vignettes that are likely to remind viewers of video favorites such as “Bridgerton,” “Yellowstone,” “Friday Night Lights” or “Vampire Diaries.”

Each ad contains a sneak preview of the next in the series, and also highlights a Black Friday offer. The first piece in the series, a preview of the campaign, is expected to surface Monday.

In a three-part docuseries Anatomy of Lies, new details about the life and lies of Elisabeth Finch, the Grey’s Anatomy writer who infamously faked a cancer diagnosis, are revealed.

A seasoned TV writer with credits on shows such as True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, in 2012, Finch began to tell friends and colleagues that she had been diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. She even wrote a now-removed essay for Elle about her unique experience with the disease, which caught the attention of an executive at Shondaland, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes’ production company. Impressed with the essay, Rhimes offered Finch a writer’s spot on the ABC show, and Finch’s health issues were soon incorporated into episode storylines, which Finch wrote.

The truth about Finch’s diagnosis was first reported in March 2022, when The Ankler published the initial article that exposed Finch for fabricating her personal and medical history.
