There are a lot of adult animation online but very rarely do we get something so fresh, wicked and bat-shit crazy. With "Bad Exorcist (Bogdan Boner : Egzorcysta)" Netflix has made a Polish animated series that is a must watch, which, in addition to its black comedy, gore is particularly convincing with its crazy story and the unique characters. If at the beginning the series is more like a sitcom, where the the Exorcist agency get into unusual alterations with the demons, then as it approaches each episodes it gets even more wackier.
The story is about Bogdan Boner, a middle-aged man running an Exorcist agency (area code 666....) : he charges double if the clients wants an invoice, a huge fan of Vodka, kills demons in a unique ways and i want to mention that he hides a grenade in his xxx while taking cover in a coffin and takes out the demons. And suddenly as the series progresses, there is lot of chaos, crisis in the town and to the people around him. Meanwhile, the Prince of hell increases the drinking age limit, uses a cell phone, cribs about doing chores like picking up his daughter from kindergarten. But this doesn't mean the red Demon isn't good or kind as he wages string of plans to destroy Bogdan, his family and the characters around him. He even sends a women from Hell to seduce Bogdan and it doesn't stop here as the tussle between both eventually becomes super intense in a WTF way from beginning to end.
The biggest plus is in the dialogues, many of which are twisted, disgusting and funny. I would mention the Fish confessing his affair with seahorse as one of the best, even the rechristened or resatanised banter, Netflix is king, Bogdan's take on TV commercials, the limp pecker troll, the one liners in Nergal (dog) sequence, and the misdemeanours of the Heavy metal band in Season 2 and lots more. Yes, there is so much of absurdist dark humour - in this case, in the world of Boner, his friends, the priests, the Demons, even minor characters appearing for several episodes are perfect.
I felt that in the 2nd season, the very idea of the time travel with Bogdan spending his retirement and the last one with his Father and the flashbacks could have been better finalized. But this is not a huge let down as the motive of this series is not to take a stand or preach a sermon on good vs evil. The animation is wacky which reminded me of the album art from the demo tapes by various Old school death/thrash/grindcore bands. I would say it is Sick and Brilliant compared to various adult animations.
Word of Caution: I will only recommend this to the fans who love absurdist comedy and not afraid of demon dose of animated gore and hell lot of blood squirting in terms of violence. I wish Netflix will approve the third season. Not everyday we have titles like The Exorcist Boner, Messiah, Archive 81, The OA, The Society, Sick Note, A Very Secret Service, The Trail, Goedam, The Kingdom, Giri/Haji, Kotaro Live Alone, American Vandall, The Sinner, Signal (Korean), Suburra Blood on Rome, Fauda, Godless, Midnight Diner, Alias Grace,Travelers, White Gold, Russian Doll, Santa Clarita Diet and Brand New Cherry Flavour listed on the homepage. This side of Netflix deserves immense support from the genre fans. I really hope they don't cancel this like they have done it in the past - i wonder if will they.
