Wire in the Blood finished its sixth series with a strong 4.47m (21.2%) on Friday night. The Robson Green drama has averaged 4.81m (22.4%) across its eight episodes, down only slightly on the 5.1m average for the last series, which aired over four weeks in 90-minute instalments on Wednesday nights. BBC One's Have I Got News For You averaged 5.07m (23.4%) at 9pm, on par with last week, then Little Britain USA amused 3.21m (15.7%). On Channel 4, Gordon Ramsay's Cookalong Live lost 600,000 on last week's strong opener to average 1.91m (9%) in the 9pm hour. The concluding part of BBC Two's The American Future: A History, By Simon Schama drew 1.65m (7.8%) and on Five, NCIS interested 1.13m (5.4%). Gordon Ramsay's new series Cookalong Live made a strong start in the ratings for Channel 4 on Friday night. The show, which sees the chef encouraging viewers to cook a three-course meal live, drew an average of 2.51m (11.3%) in the 9pm hour. The ratings are up significantly on the 1.37m (6.2%) who watched the season finale of Ugly Betty in the same slot last week but are significantly down on the huge 4.18m (17.6%) audience for a one-off Cookalong Live pilot in January this year. ITV1 won the hour with 4.83m (21.7%) for the penultimate episode of Wire in The Blood. BBC One had 5.12m (22.5%) for Have I Got News For You, down almost a million on last week's opener, then 3.65m (16.7%) saw Little Britain USA. The return of Have I Got News For You brought in strong ratings to BBC One last night (Friday), overnight figures suggest. The 36th series of the quiz show, guest hosted this week by Fern Britton, began with 6.08m (26.8%) at 9pm. The previous series, broadcast in the Spring, averaged around 5 million for the channel. Little Britain USA followed at 9.30pm with 4.67m (21.6%). ITV1 drama Wire in the Blood held up well in the slot, averaging 4.69m (21.1%) for the hour. The American Future: A History, By Simon Schama lost out the most from the increased competition, shedding 600,000 on last week's debut to average 1.7m (7.7%) for BBC Two. Ugly Betty ended its second season with just 1.37m (6.2%) for Channel 4, while Five's NCIS repeat logged 1.34m (6%) over the same period. Simon Schama's new BBC Two series got off to a decent start in the ratings last night (Friday). The American Future: A History, By Simon Schama - a four-part documentary tracing the history of important political issues in the States - drew 2.27m (10.5%) in the 9pm hour, up 300,000 on the finale of The Tudors in the same slot last week. ITV1's Wire In The Blood regained the lead in the slot, with an average of 4.69m (21.6%) for the hour. On BBC One, Harry & Paul ended its run with 3.66m (16.8%). Over its six weeks the comedy has averaged 3.37m (15.5%), down around a quarter on the slot average. The second episode of Little Britain USA followed at 9.30pm with 4.23m (19.5%), down 400,000 on last week's opener. Channel 4's Ugly Betty drew 1.4m (6.5%) and was beaten by Five's NCIS, with 1.52m (7%). (more)...
