Don't watch late at night
I've never been impelled to review a movie with 30 minutes remaining, but I waited until the end and I just can't justify the $6.99 I paid to rent this low budget movie.
I love sci-fi movies, but this is so very boring. No visuals, no suspense, and bad acting. Although probably intentional, this whole movie feels like it was made on a foggy day with car headlights for lighting in the background. Way too artsy for my taste. Some will love it, most will not. Personally, I couldn't wait until it was over and I could go to sleep. Time is precious. Don't waste your time.
I was hoping for a little sci-fi meets a little horror. Oh well.

Having stopped watching a movie before it ended in awhile.
This is the 1st movie in awhile I just couldn't finish. Boring, bad lighting, hoping and praying the monster alien ( in theory, because seeing it is impossible) kills all of them. It's like being in a psychedelic sand storm with no ending in sight. At first, you think they've crash landed in water, because you can't tell. Then, the one astronaut obsessed with alien feces and can't stop digging through it and getting it all over her gloves is just way too gross. And then the "kids in space" really? Trying to get us to see a maternal side when this is space, enough already. Just way too long, nothing ever happens and you're wondering why you watched it.

Initially interesting, but the excitement fades quickly
I began watching this movie with no prior knowledge and low expectations. Within the first 10 minutes, I was excited because "Light" gave me strong vibes of space sci-fi classics like Alien, Prometheus, and Pitch Black. For instance, some of the space gear, like the portable motion sensor, felt straight out of Alien, and the main character could easily have been Ellen Ripley or Elisabeth Shaw. It was clear the director drew a lot of inspiration from Alien and Prometheus. Additionally, the image of a character wrapped in glowing cables while a space monster lurked nearby reminded me of Pitch Black.
However, after those promising first 10 minutes, my interest quickly faded. The plot stagnated, and it became clear that "Light" is a low-budget psychological movie focused on the two main characters who crash-land on a dark, foggy planet where a gem-pooping monster lurks, only appearing at the end. The story centers on these two characters as they struggle with dwindling air supplies, avoiding the monster, and sharing bits of their lives over the radio.
That said, the final 10 minutes did manage to recapture some of my attention. We finally get to see the monster and meet some other characters, including mysterious villains whose identities remain unclear but are crucial to why the main characters' spaceship crashed. The ending also provides powerful examples of both the positive and negative aspects of humanity, including sacrifice, love, greed, and cruelty.
Overall, "Light" might have worked better as a short film rather than a full-length movie. Besides the first and last 10 minutes, the movie dragged, and I seriously considered turning it off after about 20 minutes. I'm glad I didn't, as the ending provided some clarity on the plot, though it still left many questions unanswered. I can't recommend "Light" unless you're looking for background noise while doing something else.

Cheap and inferior copycat.
Deep sigh. Believe me I really didnt want to review this movie, but it was SUCH a disappointment that I had to WARN others who might make the mistake to actually pay for this cheap and inferior copycat.
The bad: bring a search light, because this movie is SO incredibly sparsly lit (no pun intended) that you dont see much at all during the ENTIRE movie. Using dark lighting techniques is an effective way of covering up that there is no money available for good looking sets. But they went to the extreme with these dark looking sets. Terribly annoying to watch!
The really bad: let's forget about the fact that one cant see anyhting, let's judge what we CAN see in the dark and that is these actors trying to perform in HELMETS all the time. Oh man, does this look silly.
Please avoid. You have been warned. This is nothing more than a cheap and inferior copycat of other much better scifi movies.

Waste of film stock
Just managed to make it through this steaming pile. Also just realised that it's released date was 1st April, which makes sense as it was a joke. A 4 key piano tune (if it qualifies as a tune) is supposed to convey suspense, terrible lighting meant at times I could ignore the picture completely and listen as I would do a radio play. I'd say the plot was terrible although I'm unsure it actually has one. I can see why some gave up before the end as I was tempted to leave it unfinished. If there was a budget for this then it was likely spent on smoke machines and torch batteries because that's all the effects this has to offer sadly.
Why?
I love SciFi movies. But after watching this, I'm not sure I want to waste my time EVER watching another. That's how bad this was. The back and forth half-communication to stir up drama was lacking. The plot, if you can call it that was subpar at BEST!! The story telling was choppy. After falling asleep in the movie, I rewound it to see what I missed, and I really could have just let it end. This was a waste of time and I literally had nothing else to do.
They want me to use 600 words minimum in my review in order for it to be posted. There's literally nothing else I can say about this movie.

This was truly abysmal...
Well, without ever having heard about this 2024 sci-fi thriller titled "Light", I opted to sit down and watch it, as I stumbled upon it by random chance. I didn't really know what I was in for, but the movie's synopsis sounded interesting enough.
Now, had I noticed that the movie had scored a staggering 2.7 rating here on IMDb prior to sitting down and watching it, I might have skipped on the movie entirely. However, I can understand why the movie has landed such a low rating, because this movie was a swing and a miss from writer and director Matt Woollard.
The storyline is supposed to have an alien creature stalking a crash-landed mother on a dark planet. But instead of that, which actually was an interesting concept, we are treated to 93 minutes of close-ups of Christine Roche and Gia Lily's faces in some low budget space suits, with a purple filter added to the camera, while they are delivering monotone dialogue. Yeah, there was absolutely nothing interesting happening throughout the course of the movie.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. Not that it really mattered, because the acting was severely restricted, as the actresses and actors virtually had nothing to work with.
"Light" looks and feels like it was shot in a 5 foot by 5 foot stage, making it look very low key and low budget.
If you enjoy sci-fi more than life itself, then you might get a kick out of watching writer and director Matt Woollard's 2024 movie. However, if you sit down to watch a movie with the intention of being entertained, then "Light" is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your precious time, money or effort on. Some of us suffered through this dumpster fire of a movie, so you don't have to; you're very welcome.
My rating of "Light" lands on a very generous one out of ten stars.

Shorter would have been better
This was definitely a budget Sci Fi film; but having a tight budget is no crime. The premise reminds me of the Sci Fi short stories I used to voraciously consume as a teenager and a young adult. The subject is tightly contained, there's an air of discomfort and oppression, and there's a disturbing twist. I think the acting was fine especially given the constraints of the survival suits they were required to wear, the sense of claustrophobia was palpable, and the story was original (although there were a lot of elements nicked from elsewhere). What ruins it is its length. This should have been a short. And there was a bizarrely hammy interaction near the end with a new character and some hand signals. However, I'm still thinking about the plot the next day - which is a good sign.

This should have been a short film.
I love long movies. But this story was definitely destined to be a short film. One in a compilation of many, perhaps.
I would give it more stars if it was that.
I get it. They used close-ups and fog all through the movie because of budget constraints. They could have done more by using the same budget for a much shorter movie (or indeed just a short film of about 35 minutes or less).
The acting is fine, no issue with that. The camerawork is fine, although they were forced to use the minboggingly constant closeup shots. The soundtrack is fine, but again it would have worked if it was a short film. It just drones on.
You glance at how far through the movie you got and it's a only half. Wow.

Light
I know, thought auteur Matt Woollard. Let's get our mates at Paramount to lend us a sound stage for the day so we can get out those old diving suits from that Jacques Cousteau documentary. Then we can make a pseudo-sci-fi yarn about three entirely interchangeable women stranded on a dark and foggy planet that appears to be being terrorised by a creature attracted to the light and with a propensity to leave huge great droppings. Perhaps, as they sift through this excrement looking for treasure, they figured it only fair that we do the same with the storyline so onwards we go in shared misery. Light? Ah, yes - what did we do with the ones from last year's Christmas tree? Perfect. Who needs a budget? Or a writer? Or a plot? Indeed, after about fifteen minutes of this really quite dreary and pace-free drama I figured that this just had to have been made as a student bet. To be fair, some of the visuals are at least as good as those in an edition of "Space 1999" from, say, 1975 - but the rest of this is complete non-event from start to finish. There isn't any acting to speak of, just the characters in their upturned goldfish bowls searching around in the dark for a missing son "Luccas" (Yes, with two c's for some reason!). Woollard tries to inject a hint of jeopardy at the end with a little double-dealing, but that is but one of ninety minutes that we shall never get back. It's the kind of film that everyone involved with will swiftly want to deny all knowledge of, and it's certainly not worth watching.

Not just Sci-Fi - so much more...
I liked this.
Too many films these days run at breakneck speed in a blur of unnecessary action shots and increasingly rely almost solely on CGI.
Here we have a clearly low budget (not that it shows) Science Fiction Story that concentrates on creating an intense atmospheric Alien world with good, well directed, actors slowly revealing a tense and emotional situation with plenty of surprises along the way.
You don't need to be a Sci-Fi Fan to appreciate the care and dedication that surely lies behind this production or to simply enjoy the ingenious writing - anyone and everyone should appreciate it but If you want to know more; I strongly suggest you click those buttons...

As bad as they get.
Close to zero budget, and it shows. In every moment of every scene. With dialogue that could not exist in such a situation. What situation? Good question. I'm a half hour plus in, and already know that this has - nothing. There's no advancement, no story. Just inexpert women in some sort of dive suit stranded - where? Why? No idea. And guess what. I couldn't care less. That's how involved the runtime thus far has made me feel about this dismal and talentless waste of my precious life minutes. Don't watch it, it's got nothing to thrill, amuse, - anything.
It's obviously been cobbled together by an almost total lack of funds and all they got for their outlay was young women in space suits talking in stacatto phrases with little more that half a dozen words allotted to each at every moment anyone's talking.
It's got nothing to let you feel a thing except that you'll feel robbed of your life minutes drained away watching dismal tripe.

Lowest budget of any movie?
Wow! What was the budget for this movie? Couldn't have been more than £500 and that was for 3D printed suit parts and the fog machine. Acting was dire, storyline very amateur and scenery, well filming everything in fog certainly prevented work on scenery. There are phone apps that even create half decent scenarios for green screen projects that would have been better than just fog!
If this was a school project it would be acceptable but pushing this on Paramount alongside mainstream movies is not cricket. I can only assume no one watched this movie before adding it to the lineup.
My advice is to watch something else and I'm not joking.

A thoroughly entertaining watch
This is an intense psychological sci-fi movie about the difficult journey of a mother after crash landing on a dark alien world, having been separated from her young son during the crash. Needing to use light to search for him, knowing that the light draws the attention of the planets inhabitants, she has to try to find him.
The film is cleverly written, it keeps you guessing and feeling edgy throughout, with engaging performances from the main characters that drag you in through their plight and hope for resolution.
It's a movie well worth watching for any fans of sci-fi or psychological thrillers. Don't expect endless special effects to wow you, this is about the story. If you allow yourself to be immersed in this dark alien world, you'll be thoroughly entertained throughout.
