Canada’s Sphere Media has completed its C$24.6M ($18.2M) of UK-based distributor Abacus Media Rights. Going forwards, Abacus will be known as Sphere Abacus and act as Sphere’s sales wing.
Abacus founder and Managing Director Jonathan Ford will take up the same role at Sphere Abacus, reporting directly to Sphere CEO Bruno Dubé.
Sphere had struck the deal to buy Abacus — which shops the likes of Leaving Neverland, Travels With Agatha, Scrublands and Sphere’s Sort Of — back in June after a search for a distribution partner. Abacus has carved out a reputation as a key mid-sized distributor after launching in early 2020, just as the Covid-19 pandemic hit Europe.
The plan for Sphere Abacus going forwards is for it to work with Sphere’s production business and continue to invest in, pre-sell and sell scripted and unscripted productions from indie producers. The company will remain in London and structurally little will change.

You know you love her, and why wouldn't you?
Eva Longoria is not only a talented actress who chooses projects that speak not just to her amazing acting talent but resonate with her heart in a way that shows in her performances.
She may have gotten recognition from her role on a drama-dripping soap opera with a cast of actors who have no right to be as attractive as they are talented, but Longoria has proven she is so much more than a pretty face and a smile that could melt steel.
With wins from the Screen Actors Guild and the People's Choice, the actress is a familiar face who has been entertaining folks since the start of the millennium.
If this fantastic woman hasn't won you over yet, do a quick search of her to see how she brings thousands of dollars to charities and foundations that help impoverished communities and immigrants worldwide.

Of course Maya Rudolph brought her Beyoncé impression back to Saturday Night Live this week… and of course she had to go back on Hot Ones.
Rudolph once again played the pop icon during her SNL hosting gig this week and tried to eat more painfully hot chicken wings as a guest on the talk show Hot Ones. This time, Beyoncé — decked out in full Cowboy Carter gear with a cowboy hat — let host Sean Evans (played by Mikey Day) know right away: “It’s a pleasure for you to have me.

Jeff Bader, president of program planning strategy at NBCUniversal Entertainment, has explained why Quantum Leap has been canceled after two seasons.
In an interview with TVLine, Bader called Quantum Leap “softer” than some other shows that transitioned to the streamer.
“Organized Crime is a Very successful show; this isn’t a show that was on the bubble,” Bader said. “It’s a show that works across the board, and it’s very, very strong on streaming. [Moving Season 5 to Peacock] is a win-win for us — 80% of its viewing isn’t in the time period where we schedule it, it’s delayed on Peacock, so it just made sense to move that to free up the time period.”
However, it’s a “different discussion with Quantum, which was just a much softer show, performance-wise.”

Bash ended up taking a trip down Memory Lane on one of the most pressure-packed days of his life.
Yes, Bash's Canadian citizenship interview finally rolled around on Transplant Season 3 Episode 8.
The questions asked by the amazingly empathetic interviewer, Mr. Chandler, made Bash ponder events in his life, both recent and further back. These flashbacks served as an effective framing mechanism.
It did take some time to figure out how the narrative was proceeding. Chandler would ask Bash a pointed question, which led to a particular moment in his past. Still, this device definitely worked for the viewer.
Bash lived by the motto that he should answer any question from the interviewer truthfully. He told the truth to Chandler throughout, even to his detriment.
You would have thought that Bash would be a shoo-in for citizenship. He's a doctor, after all, working in a major metropolitan hospital only five years after landing in Canada.

Midseason is the new fall.
As Hollywood and the broader industry continue to recover from the debilitating dual actors and writers strikes, the 2024 television landscape is coming into focus. All of the broadcast networks have set return dates for most of their shows, with the postponed Emmy Awards now set for January 15 and no usual Premiere Week to speak of.
But as series return to production with lower episode counts this truncated season, here again is Deadline’s annual list of premiere dates for new and returning TV series.
The roster covers hundreds of broadcast, cable and streaming programs debuting through 2024, with many listed as Tba as the year kicks off. It includes series and season debuts, shows returning from hiatus and some one-offs such as live sports and awards specials but not movies. The list includes shows that are in limbo for now but are likely to get premiere dates in the coming months.

Tensions continued to mount upon the doctors at York Memorial Hospital.
The Emerg nurses' work-to-rule action to protest the changes implemented by Dr. Devi didn't help matters on Transplant Season 3 Episode 7.
But their slowdown only brought to light problems that existed long before that.
The Oxford Dictionary defines the British concept of work to rule as "to follow official working rules and hours exactly to reduce output and efficiency, especially as a form of industrial action."
Neeta Devi means well. She's attempting to make the emergency department more comfortable for patients.
Also, Dr. Olsen, the medical director, and the board have given her the power to make changes to implement her policies.
But too many of those changes have fallen on the backs of the nursing staff, who make any hospital run as smoothly as it does by doing the little things off the books.
Hospitals profit by staying understaffed...
