The decision of producing two versions of the same movie was inspired by He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (2002), which brings two different points of view to narrate a troubled romance, and The Affair (2014), which brings the male and the female perception of an extramarital relationship separately.
Screenwriter Ilana Casoy is a Brazilian criminologist and author of novels focused on serial killers.
The real individuals depicted in the movies had no participation in this production. Carla Diaz prepared for her role by deeply researching the case and reportedly felt "no empathy" for Suzane. "That's a very delicate topic when it comes to a crime, but we had to distance ourselves from any judgments to portray [the characters] truly, and that's an intense process."
Filmed, produced and released simultaneously with The Girl Who Killed Her Parents (2021), which tells the Richthofen murders from Daniel's point of view.
