From the co-creator of Outnumbered comes a historical comedy called Fools, with Karen Gillan leading the cast. More here.
Karen Gillan’s just gone and signed up a new lead screen role, as she’s set to head the ensemble of the upcoming historical comedy, Fools.
The movie has been written and directed by Guy Jenkin, whose credits include Outnumbered and its sort of spin-off film, What We Did On Our Holiday. He’s attracted quite a cast too, on top of Karen Gillan’s headline act.
Alongside her are award-winner Pasty Ferran, the mighty Brenda Blethyn, and the peerless Jim Broadbent.
Karen Gillan – famous of course for Doctor Who, her Marvel work, Jumanji, and appearing on the cover of Film Stories magazine – will be playing Queen Mary I, in a story set just after the death of Henry VIII. Broadbent is Cardinal Pole (begging your pardon), whilst Patsy Ferran...

Karen Gillan (Avengers Endgame) will play Mary Tudor in Fools, an upcoming period comedy about the monarch’s friendship with her female court jester. Patsy Ferran (Hot Milk) is the jester in the little-known historical tale. BAFTA- and Emmy-winning Guy Jenkin (Outnumbered) will direct from his own script.
Brenda Blethyn (Secrets & Lies) will also star, as will Jim Broadent (Moulin Rouge), who plays a scheming Cardinal.
The film is set in 1553. England’s first Queen, Mary I, takes the throne. The country is on the brink of chaos, and the ambitious Cardinal Pole plots to secure control. He has overlooked, however, a humble court jester. The pious, and apparently humorless queen finds relief in her brilliant slapstick routines and they strike up an unlikely friendship.
Cameras are set to roll later this year. Ryan Bennett of PaperEpic Productions will produce. Altitude Film Sales will handle international sales, starting at the European Film Market.

Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany took an obtuse approach Wednesday to covering Donald Trump’s win in the New Hampshire primary — and the lies he told in his victory speech — focusing instead on how other news networks covered the comments.
McEnany, in the opening segment of her “Outnumbered” news talk show, attempted to shame MSNBC and CNN for not similarly covering President Joe Biden’s speeches.
“The media, they had a rather interesting decision to double down on not showing President Trump’s victory speech in full,” McEnany said before greeting her viewers and introducing fellow “Outnumbered” panelists Emily Compagno and Harris Faulkner. They were also joined by guests: former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon and Democratic campaign strategist Kevin Walling.

Swift was spotted enthusiastically cheering on Kelce from a private box at Arrowhead Stadium, in the company of Kelce’s mother, Donna. Fox News executive John Finley, fired last week after more than two decades with the network, was pushed out after a woman alleged she was sexually harassed and stalked, according to a Friday report by Mediaite citing sources it did not name.
The network said Finley was fired for violating company standards, but did not clarify what those standards were. “Fox News Media and John Finley have parted ways after an independent investigation concluded that he had violated certain standards of business conduct,” a Fox News spokesperson told TheWrap.
A recent investigation conducted by an outside law firm resulted in Finley being placed on leave from his role as executive vice president of development. He was subsequently fired.
Mediaite reports that a woman who was not an employee of Fox but has worked on projects for Fox Nation, which was helmed by Finley, had reached an undisclosed settlement with the network.

Geraldo Rivera has called Fox News his home since leaving CNBC in 2001 to join the cable outlet as its ostensible war correspondent. He appears to have a lost a recent battle.
After being ousted from a rotation on “The Five,” Rivera said in a video post on Twitter Thursday, he is leaving Fox News. “I’ve been fired from ‘The Five,’ and as a result, I quit Fox,” the veteran TV personality said, while riding a boat. He said he might appear on “Fox & Friends” Friday to offer more comment, but would not be appearing on “The Five” one last time, as he had previously indicated he would.
“We reached an amicable conclusion with Geraldo over the past few weeks, and look forward to celebrating him tomorrow on ‘Fox & Friends,’ which will be his last appearance on the network,” Fox News said in a statement Thursday evening.

Warning: This contains spoilers for Not Going Out
Back in 2015, during a BBC Breakfast interview about series seven of Not Going Out, presenter Bill Turnbull asked Lee Mack: “Did you ever imagine when you first got that pilot that you’d get seven series?”
“I didn’t think we’d even get a series,” Mack answers incredulously, explaining that even going from script to a pilot episode felt like “the biggest hurdle”.
And yet, eight years later (17 since the show began in 2006), Not Going Out has now almost doubled its series from seven to 13, still regularly pulling in audiences of over four million, with the newest series arriving on BBC One on Friday 23rd June at 9pm. As ever, the show will focus on Lee Mack as a fictionalised version of himself, alongside his landlady-turned-wife and sparring partner Lucy, and their eventful and often farcical life together.

Loquacious Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera will soon have less to talk about.
The veteran will leave his slot as one of the “liberal” panelists on “The Five,” he announced via Twitter on Wednesday, ceding ground, presumably, to Jessica Tarlov and Harold Ford, Jr., the two other personalities who regularly occupy the seat on the show. “The Five” is Fox News Channel’s most-watched program, and executives are known to take a distinct interest in how the panelists mesh on screen.
“Morning, it’s official, I’m off @TheFive,” Rivera posted. “My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th. It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity. Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large.”
A spokesperson for Fox News could not be reached for immediate comment on Rivera’s status at the network.

Fox Business is shutting down “Kennedy,” the nightly program hosted by Lisa Kennedy Montgomery in the 7 p.m. time slot, and replacing it with reruns of Larry Kudlow’s namesake show.
“Kennedy” will air for the last time on Thursday. The show had a seven-month hiatus in 2020, with the network citing “the demands of the evolving pandemic crisis coverage” at the time.
Montgomery, a host since 2015, will remain with Fox, a spokesperson confirmed to TheWrap. The political libertarian has a background in pop culture that includes experience as an MTV VJ, is a frequent panelist on Fox News’ “Outnumbered” and guests on “The Five,” and also has a podcast, “Kennedy Saves the World.” She is currently on a comedy tour with Jimmy Failla of Fox News Radio.

Luther’s back. Being banged up at the end of Series 5 didn’t stop that growly genius from taking on a new case and a new villain in Bond-inspired Netflix movie The Fallen Sun. And, since most of his former colleagues were spectacularly killed in the line of duty, the man’s being joined by a fresh cast.

In a bright, wide-open studio at Fox News’ Manhattan headquarters, where cable-news programs often stick to tried-and-true formats, Dagen McDowell and Sean Duffy are trying something a little unexpected: an experiment.
Larry Kudlow just wrapped his after-market Fox Business program, and the duo are taking advantage of the empty facility to rehearse banter for their new show, “Bottom Line,” slated to debut Monday evening at 6 p.m. Sure, they strike familiar chords, with a segment that examines how President Joe Biden’s White House has grappled with continued revelations of classified documents being found in his offices that eventually segues into a discussion of his son, Hunter Biden. But McDowell, a longtime correspondent, and Duffy, the former Republican Congressman from Wisconsin. are also trying to create new music.

All the usual suspects will be on hand for Fox News Channel’s Tuesday-night coverage of the 2022 midterm elections. Viewers may see some unexpected ones as well.

The anchors of Fox Business Network have long delivered the latest business headlines. Now some may be getting ready to debate them, too.
Fox Business is preparing to launch a new discussion program that aims to emulate some of the biggest programing hits in recent years on its sibling, Fox News Channel, where so-called “roundtable” shows have fast become a staple of its schedule. The shows can serve to develop personalities who find themselves leading their own hours within a few years, as has been the case for Greg Gutfeld, who helped launch the late-afternoon program “The Five” and now also leads a late-night program at 11 p.m.

Ken Starr, the prosecutor who led the relentless Whitewater investigation into then-President Bill Clinton and whose report on the case revealed intimate details of Clinton’s extramarital sexual relations, died Tuesday in Houston following complications from surgery. He was 76.
His death was announced by his family in a statement.

When President Joe Biden last week cited a report of a 10-year-old Ohio rape victim forced to travel out of state to Indiana to obtain an abortion, it quickly made national headlines in the heated environment following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe Vs. Wade.
In the days that followed, the story went viral, first as an example of the realities of new state abortion restrictions, then with doubts cast on the story by commentators on the right, such as Fox News’ Jesse Watters, who said Monday that if the story was not accurate, the mainstream media and Biden would be “seizing on another hoax.”
Hosts and pundits on Outnumbered joined in the doubting.
But on Wednesday, the Columbus Dispatch reported that 27-year-old Gershon Fuentes had been arrested in the case. Ohio’s Attorney General Dave Yost, who on Monday told Watters that his office had not heard “a whisper” of the case,...

Fox News has agreed to pay former host Melissa Francis a 15 million settlement after she accused the network of gender pay disparity and was ultimately taken off the air, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
The news comes six months into the New York State Department of Labor’s investigation into her complaint that Fox News retaliated against her for speaking up about the discriminatory practice.
In 2012, Francis left her post covering financial news for CNBC to become an anchor at Fox Business. About five years into her tenure, she was promoted to co-anchor of Fox News’ midday show “Outnumbered,” while continuing to co-host Fox Business’ “After The Bell” and making occasional appearances on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

The nation’s biggest TV-news outlets have made it increasingly easy for top officials in the White House to have a presence in your house.
If White House press secretary Jen Psaki joins MSNBC as expected, she will be the second Biden official to land at the NBCUniversal-owned network in the space of less than a year. She will join Symone Sanders, a former campaign adviser to President Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, at MSNBC, where she is taking on a weekend show that will also have a streaming presence.
Psaki declined to discuss her negotiations with MSNBC Friday during a White House press briefing, but two people familiar with the matter say she has been weighing potential roles with both CNN and MSNBC and should surface at the latter by autumn.
