By the way, none of those films even competed for Best Picture. Indeed, only 20 Best Picture champs also won this award; the last to do so was “The Artist” in 2012.
Among the other double dippers was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004). Fantasy films such as this often boast Oscar-winning costumes, including 2022 champ “Cruella,...

Divorced, beheaded, died. Divorced, beheaded, survived. This English nursery rhyme, synonymous with Henry VIII’s rule and the fate of his six wives, has undoubtedly been ingrained in many a child’s memory. And while there have been numerous big- and small-screen takes on the infamous Tudor dynasty, it’s less common for the spotlight to fall on the fascinating lives of his fateful wives.
Enter director Karim Aïnouz’s Firebrand, an adaptation of Elizabeth Fremantle’s novel Queen’s Gambit, a feminist take on this tumultuous and bloody slice of British history. Many of you will likely know filmmaker Neil Marshall best for movies like Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday before he shifted gears to television where he received widespread acclaim for helming episodes of Game of Thrones, Hannibal, and more.
On the superhero side, he worked on NBC's well-received Constantine TV series and later helmed 2019's Hellboy reboot starring David Harbour. Now, though, he's taken the helm of Duchess, an action-packed new British action-crime thriller starring - and co-written and produced by - Charlotte Kirk.

Keira Knightley was critical about wearing corsets for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean, despite admitting that it was an easy way to slip into the character of a royal woman. She believed that women should have burned these dresses centuries ago. While the actress’s view about the constricting garment remained the same even after all these years, she has come to accept the vitality of the costume for the character.
Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley was vocal about her hate for corsets
Knightley was just 18 when she was cast in the role of Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Apart from the challenging costumes, she also revealed that she was forced to do some stunts that she wasn’t trained for in the movie.

Actress Keira Knightley gained significant popularity in the 2000s and it’s hard to not talk about 2003’s Love Actually when we talk about her success. While the movie was very important for the actress’ career, Knightley has one regret: wearing a hat in a scene in the movie. It may have looked out of place but there was a particular reason why she wore it.

Knightley once revealed that she wore the hat in order to hide acne. It was natural for her as she was just a teenager back then, but she preferred the hat instead of makeup to cover the pimple. Love Actually made Knightley a household name and created bigger opportunities for the star.

Robert Downey Jr. has quickly become the Oscars frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor for his transformative turn in Christopher Nolan‘s acclaimed biopic “Oppenheimer.” This Universal blockbuster chronicles how Cillian Murphy‘s titular scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer created the atomic bomb. Emily Blunt features as Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty, while Downey Jr. portrays his political foe Lewis Strauss. Third time should prove to be the charm for this charmer. That got us thinking about his first two Oscar races.
Downey Jr. was first nominated in 1993 for Best Actor for “Chaplin.” Another biopic, he played the titular role of the cinematic legend Charlie Chaplin. Directed by Richard Attenborough, the film recounts Chaplin’s incredible life and career from his poverty-stricken childhood to his worldwide acclaim. Downey Jr. turned in a pitch-perfect performance, nailing the accent, mannerisms, and expressions of the great man and receiving acclaim of his own along the way.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One is an action movie directed by Christopher McQuarrie starring Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames,, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby among others.
A saga that does not disappoint and manages to surpass itself in this new chapter in what it promises and has been its unmistakable hallmark: action and entertainment.
More of the same? Absolutely.
And we loved and enjoyed this new installment of “Mission: Impossible”.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One”: Movie review
“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One” has everything you could expect from an action and adventure movie and, at times, it reminds us of the best moments of Indiana Jones (especially in the train scenes and the comedic touch that this new installment sometimes achieves).

If you want to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design, it’s best to pick a project for which you can create frilly dresses from a bygone era. Since its introduction at the 1948 Academy Awards, this category has favored period pictures, including the 2021 winner “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Voters love to reward the creative forces behind such films, especially those that are about the aristocracy including recent champs “Marie Antoinette” (2007), “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2008), “The Duchess” (2009), “The Young Victoria” (2010), and “Anna Karenina” (2013). (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2023 Oscars Best Costume Design predictions.)
By the way, none of those films even competed for Best Picture. Indeed, only 20 of the most recent 73 Best Picture champs also won this award. Among these was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004). Fantasy films such as this often boast Oscar-winning costumes, including 2022 champ “Cruella,” 2019 winner “Black Panther” and its...

“I’ve been the model. I’ve been the muse. I’ve been the ingenue. But I was done with that. I was good at drinking, having sex, and taking pictures. And I did all three as much as I could.” – Lee Miller
When an elder Lee Miller, played by Kate Winslet, sits down with a young journalist to tell the story about her role during World War II in the war drama “Lee,” the memorable line sets up the filmmaker’s ultimate goal: tell the world about one of its most unsung heroes.
Along with a “Saving Private Ryan”-esque opening battle sequence, “Lee” presents itself as a glossy character study, looking for a home out of the acquisition market after premiering at the Roy Thomson Hall Theatre at TIFF on Saturday night. BBC comedy boss Jon Petrie is to spend the year identifying a “package of measures that industry, government and regulators can come together on to safeguard comedy’s future,” while calling for a comedy tax credit.
Petrie used a set-piece speech to declare that the cost of half-hour TV comedy has “risen enormously,” while stressing his new-look commissioning team is “working hard to raise [program funding] as much as we can whilst retaining the breadth of comedy on the BBC.”
“Despite the TV industry receiving the welcome news that a form of high-end TV tax credit will be retained, I know that comedy producers remain concerned about the rising costs of making comedy for television,” he said at the BBC Comedy Festival in Cardiff, where he unveiled shows from David Mitchell, Ricky Gervais and The Duchess star Michelle de Swarte. “It goes without saying that we do too, and we feel equally...

David Mitchell is returning to the BBC for genre-bending detective comedy Ludwig, which features on a five-strong comedy slate alongside Hulu co-production Dinosaur and a show from The Duchess star Michelle de Swarte.
Unveiling his first major comedy slate at this afternoon’s BBC Comedy Festival in Cardiff, the corporation’s Comedy Director Jon Petrie said the shows reflect “the depth and range of our offerings which champion British creativity.”
The slate is led by Ludwig, Peep Show star Mitchell’s first BBC project since Upstart Crow, which follows the eponymous protagonist as he takes on the identity of his brother, Dci James Taylor, who has disappeared off the face of the earth. Mitchell’s Ludwig lives in quiet solitude, designing puzzles for a living under his nom-de-plume, and he struggles to adapt to being a twin who happens to be a successful Dci leading Cambridge’s busy inner-city major crimes team.

“Emily,” Frances O’Connor’s take on the inner life of one of literature’s moodiest, broodiest romantics, embraces life on the moors as a clear alternative to the bulk of 19th-century English society. Now available on VOD and starring Emma Mackey as Emily Brontë — the gangly outcast who poured her ache for what cannot be into “Wuthering Heights” — her place in the world and within her own family is subtly but craftily conveyed by her dresses.
Oscar-nominated costume designer Michael O’Connor is no stranger to the 19th century, having done everything from “The Duchess” to the 2011 “Jane Eyre.” Within the era’s fashion, he finds ways in which to make Emily stick out, her unease in her own skin peeking through what she wears.
For the model of how to get along as an intellectual woman with limited vocational options (and of firstborn sibling syndrome in overdrive), the film offers...

Keira Knightley is a "Succession" fan, and her loyalties lie with one man: Tom Wambsgans. Tom is portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen, who won the Emmy for the role last fall. Knightley and Macfadyen have appeared on screen together three times but perhaps most iconically starred in 2005's "Pride & Prejudice," in which Knightley played Elizabeth and Macfadyen was Mr. Darcy. And when speaking to Popsugar about her new movie "Boston Strangler," Knightley can't help but praise her former costar.
"I've been unbelievably lucky to work with Matthew three times," she says; the pair also teamed up for 2012's "Anna Karenina" and 2018's "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms." She explains, "He is such a joy. He is so funny. His performance in 'Succession' - I'm going to use a big word here - it's genius." Knightley's "Boston Strangler" costar Carrie Coon, also a "Succession" fan, adds, "He's extraordinary.

Dynamic of an actress as she may be, Keira Knightley remains quite stuck in the past. As she brilliantly makes each role she plays her own, she consistently transports us into different time periods whether it’s WWII, 5th century Ad (King Arthur), or 18th century England (The Duchess). This time around, Knightley is taken to the early 1960s in Boston Strangler, the new journalism crime drama written and directed by Matt Ruskin (Crown Heights)...

Katherine Ryan has admitted she is eager to “roast” celebrities and revealed that an award show stage would be the perfect place for her to do it.
The Canadian comedian, 39, who starred in The Duchess, explained in a new interview that she “would die” to present any of the major awards ceremonies this season.
The mother-of-three told Metro: “I would die to present the Baftas or the Oscars or the Emmys or the Mobo awards or the Brits – anything like that.
She added: “I feel like it’s almost the last place where a comedian can roast and that’s because the status in the room is so high that someone like Ricky Gervais does an incredible job of letting those people show their vulnerability and have a laugh at themselves.”

The Masked Singer has unveiled yet another celebrity hiding underneath an extravagant costume.
On Saturday (28 January), Pigeon was revealed to be Katherine Ryan.
The comedian and actor gave a total of three performances in the bird disguise, styled with a cardigan, pearls and a handbag with cats printed on the outside.
Ultimately, the judging panel chose not to keep her in the competition on the latest episode after her rendition of the Cheryl hit, “Fight For This Love”.
Before the unmasking, guesses for Pigeon’s identity included Emily Atack, Gemma Collins and Stacey Solomon.
When Ryan eventually revealed herself, the audience and the judging panel applauded and appeared shocked.
“That accent was so good!” said a stunned Davina McCall, referring to the Canadian comic’s use of a Cockney accent to disguise her own voice.
Discussing the inclusion of a cauliflower and mint sauce in her video package, Ryan said:...

Nadine Macaluso has spilt the truth about the accuracy of Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film, The Wolf of Wall Street.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie as former real-life couple Jordan Belfort and Maculoso, the dramedy blockbuster follows the success and downfall of Belfort’s brokerage firm, which he built by scamming millionaires.
Based on Belfort’s 2007 memoir of the same name, the film remains fairly accurate to its source material. However, according to Macaluso – priorly Nadine Caridi – she would disagree with the movie’s portrayal of her “love life that was a Greek tragedy”.
“If you look at it through Jordan’s lens, it was really accurate. And I think that if you look at it through my lens, it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was,” Macaluso said in a TikTok video.
“However, I went to therapy, I became a therapist, actually...

A mother falls from a cliff, tumbling to her death, but her baby lands in the arms of a childless Natasha (Michelle de Swarte), who never wanted kids.
HBO horror-comedy “The Baby” keeps it simple: Motherhood is a mess, especially if you add in murder. The HBO Original eight-episode limited series premieres Sunday, April 24, with episodes being available to stream on HBO Max. “The Baby” is created by Siân Robins-Grace and Lucy Gaymer and produced by Sister and Proverbial Pictures. Check out the trailer below.
Per an official synopsis, Natasha (De Swarte) grapples with her newfound, and wholly unexpected, parenthood, as the baby manipulates, controls, and yes, even kills those around her. As Natasha discovers the true extent of the baby’s deadly nature, she makes increasingly desperate attempts to get rid of it. She doesn’t want a baby. But the baby definitely wants her.
Amira Ghazalla also stars as Mrs.

The Baby: "The HBO original eight-episode limited series The Baby, from creators Siân Robins-Grace and Lucy Gaymer, debuts on Sunday, April 24 (10:30-11:00 p.m. Et/Pt) on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. A horror comedy co-production with Sky, and produced by Sister and Proverbial Pictures, The Baby presents a darkly funny, raw examination of motherhood, from the perspective of a woman who doesn’t want to be one.
Michelle De Swarte (“The Duchess”) stars as 38-year-old Natasha, who is furious that her closest friends are all having babies. But when she is unexpectedly landed with a baby of her own, her life dramatically implodes. Controlling, manipulative, but incredibly cute, the baby twists Natasha’s life into a surreal horror show. As she discovers the true extent of the baby’s deadly nature, Natasha makes increasingly desperate attempts to get rid of it.

If you want to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design, it’s best to pick a project for which you can create frilly dresses from a bygone era. Since its introduction at the 1948 Academy Awards, this category has favored period pictures, including last year’s winner “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Voters love to reward the creative forces behind such films, especially those that are about the aristocracy including recent champs “Marie Antoinette” (2007), “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2008), “The Duchess” (2009), “The Young Victoria” (2010), and “Anna Karenina” (2013). (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2022 Oscars predictions for Best Costume Design.)
By the way, none of those films even competed for Best Picture. Indeed, only 20 of the most recent 72 Best Picture champs also won this award. Among these was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004). Fantasy films such as this often boast Oscar-winning costumes, including 2019 winner “Black Panther,” and recent...

When you’re a streaming service, there’s only one way to celebrate the New Year. And that’s by IP mining to bring back a franchise that had no business in coming back!
With its list of new releases for January 2022, Hulu is raiding CBS’s closet and premiering How I Met Your Father, a continuation of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Complaints about unnecessary rebooting aside, perhaps its worth giving the Hillary Duff starring series a chance. If nothing else, telling a story about 2022 from a future perspective might play well.
Aside from Himyf, there aren’t any other Hulu original series to speak of. Instead, Hulu is opting to once again beef up its film library. January 1 sees the arrival of Master and Commander, Seven, and a whole bunch of Star Treks. Hulu will also be the streaming home of some recently released film Indies,...
