Seth Rogen takes on the role of a Hollywood executive in the first teaser for “The Studio,” but realizes that the industry is not the glitz and glam he first fell in love with.
Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of embattled Continental Studios. Amidst a struggling movie business, Matt and his “core team of infighting executives” battle the changing industry, corporate higher-ups and passionate artists to continue making great films. Though it’s the job Matt has always wanted, it may be the end of the career he always dreamed of.
Rogen and Evan Goldberg co-wrote, directed and executive produced the Apple TV+ comedy, which marks their first directorial project in five years. The half-hour series, which premieres March 26, stars the “Knocked Up” actor alongside Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara.

Judd Apatow lamented the state of the entertainment industry today, saying he’s witnessed a new Hollywood model that leaves little room for more grounded storylines.
Appearing on a new episode of Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Superfly podcast, the three-time Emmy winner was asked about his thoughts on current streamer and studio approaches to the filmmaking business.
“I have a new theory, which is, everything is like in the newspaper business: ‘If it bleeds, it leads,'” Apatow explained. “Everything is doomscrolling because they don’t want you to shut anything off, so they’re obsessed with it being really intense. That’s why almost everything on the streamers is either about the biggest star in the world or a serial killer. Everything is a thriller, everything is intense.”
Carvey chimed in, adding that projects nowadays are also “hypersexual,” mentioning Nicole Kidman’s penchant for constantly appearing in...

Katherine Heigl was on the rise of popularity when she stepped into the role of Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey’s Anatomy. This show then further pushed her to international stardom, and she became a household name, all thanks to her brilliant portrayal. But in the midst of all the success, she made headlines but for all the wrong reasons when she criticized the writers of the popular medical drama.
This criticism also did not go well with the showrunner of the show Shonda Rhimes. And in an Oprah interview she made sure to slam the actress in her own way.

Ken Jeong has always been a scene-stealer — even as a chorus member with no lines in a Duke University production of “Kiss Me Kate” when he was 18. “I still have the review in my office; it says, ‘Did I mention Ken Jeong, a puckish performer in the chorus who best watch his back if he keeps stealing scenes from the principals?’” recalls the actor. “So, I think it’s always been in my DNA.”
Jeong has never lost that playful quality as he moved from an actual doctor to stand-up comedian to film and TV doctor (“Knocked Up” and “Dr. Ken”) and into several of the most popular movies of the last 20 years. In addition, he’s managed to maintain a reputation as one of the most lovable and adored personalities on TV thanks to appearing as himself in hits like “The Masked Singer” and hosting “I Can See Your Voice.

Judd Apatow is one of the most impactful directors in the comedy genre, having helmed some of the biggest comedy blockbusters of the 2000s. As a result, it is natural for Apatow to have a sense of humor that sets him slightly apart from most directors. However, Apatow surprised everyone when he harnessed this humor to take multiple digs at none other than Tom Cruise.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Season One of Shrinking
AppleTV+’s Shrinking, which returns for its second season today, has a provocative premise: Would clients actually be better off if their therapists decided not to lead them toward the insights that would improve their lives, but rather just told them straight up what to do?
The show’s seeming position on this is somewhat inconsistent. Most patients are portrayed thriving when their unorthodox therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel) bosses them around. But Season One ends with therapy client Grace (Heidi Gardner) pushing her emotionally abusive husband off a cliff, after telling Jimmy about her fantasy of doing that, to Jimmy’s enthusiastic affirmation; he’s under the impression that she’s being hyperbolic, but still! You might think a connection to the criminal case might lead Jimmy to abandon his new proactivity; you’d be wrong.
But, all of that is beside my point,...

Disappointing news for fans of Apple TV+'s small-screen take on Time Bandits here, as the streamer has decided not to move forward with a second season.
Deadline broke the news, which comes almost a month after the 10-episode first season of the family-friendly sci-fi comedy series ended its run.
Despite mostly positive reviews, (the series earned a pretty decent 78% on Rotten Tomatoes), Time Bandits did not attract enough viewers, and even though Apple TV+ does not share viewership data, the fact that the show was unable to crack Nielsen's Top 10 streaming rankings clearly factored into the streamer's decision not to renew it for a sophomore season.
We got word that Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi and frequent collaborator Jemaine Clement were in the process of developing a reimagining of Terry Gilliam's '80s sci-fi classic back in 2022, with Friends alum Lisa Kudrow set to star.

Noting the recent trend of Ben Affleck’s “Air,” Matt Johnson’s “Blackberry,” Eva Longoria’s “Flamin’ Hot,” and, though perhaps a bit on the silly side, Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted,” there seems to be an increasing market for stories about consumer goods and marketing. Deadline announced Wednesday that the latest to get in the act are Judd Apatow and Steven Spielberg with a picture called “Cola Wars,” all about the rivalry between Coca-Cola and Pepsi.
“Cola Wars,” which Spielberg will produce and Apatow will direct, is written by Jason Shuman and Ben Queen. Shuman is best known for co-creating the series “Acapulco” on Apple TV + and was an executive producer on “Winning Time,” another nostalgia-soaked based-on-reality project about the peak years of the Los Angeles Lakers. Queen’s credits include “Cars 2” and “Cars 3.” The project is set up at Sony.

Judd Apatow directs, Steven Spielberg produces, as Sony moves ahead with Cola Wars, a movie about Coca Cola and Pepsi’s battle.
Just recently, we covered a report which looked at how Judd Apatow, the one-time king of Hollywood comedies, was struggling to get original projects off the ground. It’s been a few years since Apatow’s period as a director and ‘super-producer’, during which he shepherded lots of popular comedies through the studio system.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has selected Apatow to direct Cola Wars. It’s a drama that will recount the fierce battle between industry titan Coca Cola and upstart Pepsi in the 1980s.
We first learned of the project back in February, along with the claim that Sony had paid more than a million dollars for a pitch. Not the script mind, just the pitch. Jason Shuman and Ben Queen will be drafting the screenplay.

Progress on Cola Wars is bubbling up, as the Sony Pictures feature has attached Judd Apatow to direct with Steven Spielberg to produce, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Apatow is set to helm the film that is still in its initial stages of development after the studio bought a pitch for the project earlier this year. We’re guessing Judd Apatow isn’t a Dr. Pepper fan. The “Knocked Up” filmmaker is attached to direct “Cola Wars,” a film about the battle for market share between Coca Cola and Pepsi to become America’s favorite soda, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.
Tag-teaming with him on the project is none other than Steven Spielberg, who will produce the film through his Amblin Entertainment production banner.
The individual adds that at this point, “Cola Wars” is in very early development stages, with Apatow and Spielberg joining based on a pitch that Sony acquired back in April.
The writers for the film are Ben Queen and Jason Shuman, who co-created and writes the Apple TV+ series “Acapulco” and was also a producer on the canceled HBO series “Winning Time.”
Few other details are available at this early stage of development, but Deadline, which first reported the news,...

The crowds of film sellers and buyers are still rolling into Toronto from Venice and Telluride, but the puck dropped Thursday night on the acquisitions marketplace with the premiere of Nutcrackers.
David Gordon Green has taken a detour from genre to serve up a Ben Stiller-starrer that proved a crowdpleaser in two opening-night showings.
That kind of movie — with promising premises with stars and directors with proven track records — is all over the schedule. There is a lot to like in this 2024 TIFF acquisitions market. But I’ve just come from an L.A. visit and cannot recall as bleak a black cloud hangover from the twin strikes of last year. It will take time for the business to recover, and this caution could factor into the dealmaking. Also on the minds of distributors is how elusive box office has become. Comparable films to the ones on sale here...

After struggling to get several projects up and running, director Judd Apatow is said to have signed up to helm the upcoming project and reverse his recent fortunes.
With films such as Superbad, Pineapple Express and Bridesmaids on his resume as a producer, there’s no debating that Judd Apatow is one of this century’s finest minds that the comedy genre has given us. However, in recent year’s Apatow has struggled to match the same levels of success that he previously enjoyed, either as a producer or as a director, given that he also helmed really successful comedies such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up.
Apatow’s last film was 2022’s The Bubble for Netflix, which didn’t exactly set the world alight. The last film he produced that was theatrically released was Nicholas Stoller’s Bros, a Universal comedy that failed to make back its $22m...

After defining goofy millennial aimlessness with her beloved sitcom Broad City, the writer-actor is facing up to motherhood with new film Babes. But don’t worry: she hasn’t grown up too much
Ilana Glazer is trying to think of films about pregnancy and early parenthood that aren’t told from a man’s perspective. “There’s Knocked Up, but that’s about Seth Rogen. And there’s Nine Months, but that’s about Hugh Grant. Three Men and a Baby cracks me up because it’s like, three?!” says the 37-year-old, with comically perfect levels of incredulity (cracking me up in the process).
Glazer – best known as co-creator of the seminal millennial sitcom Broad City – is making a serious point: there are outrageously few movies about birth and babies that centre on the female experience. The comedian’s attempt to rectify this, however, has taken the form of a distinctly unserious film: in fact,...

Terry Gilliam’s “Time Bandits” is meeting a new generation this month, with a TV adaptation on Apple TV+. But there are some familiar elements to it.
The series follows of gang of bandits, traveling through time in an effort to steal as many important (and really just cool) artifacts as they can. But their means of traveling through time and space itself is stolen, meaning they’re also on the run from the Supreme Being.
Here’s everyone you need to know in the “Time Bandits” series.

Kevin is the young boy whose bedroom ends up being a bit of a temporal waystation, and who ends up being a hero in the story. He’s played by newcomer Kal-El Tuck, who previously starred in a pair of shorts and one episode of “Andy and the Band.”

HBO is working on a two-part documentary about comedy legend Mel Brooks.
Judd Apatow is directing the untitled doc with Michael Bonfiglio after the pair directed George Carlin’s American Dream together. It is now in production.
The docu is an “expansive yet intimate look at one of comedy’s most hilarious and influential minds, whose work has had audiences around the world laughing for more than 70 years”, per HBO.
It comes from HBO Documentary Films and Apatow Productions with Kevin Salter exec producing and Joe Beshenkovsky editing.
It marks the latest Mel Brooks doc to air on HBO; the network aired Mel Brooks: Unwrapped, originally a BBC production, in 2020.
“I went into comedy because of my love for Mel Brooks. This project is the dream of a lifetime,” said Apatow.
It is the latest documentary for Apatow, who directed Bob and Don: A Love Story and The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling.

A two-part documentary about comedy legend Mel Brooks from directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio has been set at HBO.

Apatow promises a career-spanning film about the comedy legend behind classic movie farces and parodies. “I went into comedy because of my love for Mel Brooks. This project is the dream of a lifetime,” the Hollywood writer-director-producer said in a statement.
Brooks’ career began with Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows where he worked alongside the late Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, and Larry Gelbart. That’s after the teenage comedian in the Catskills conquered the entertainment world with his satirical comedy.

August is gonna be huge for Disney+ and Hulu! There’s so much cool new stuff coming out over the next month to keep us entertained as summer wraps up.
Disney+ has some awesome shows starting new seasons. “Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures” is back on August 14th with more space adventures. Kids can also look forward to fresh episodes of “Me and Winnie the Pooh” on the 21st. Music fans should check out “Are You Sure?!,” a new show about BTS members Jimin and Jung Kook that comes out the 8th.
Hulu really loaded up their August lineup with something for everyone. One of the biggest things has to be season 4 of “Only Murders in the Building” premiering on the 27th. I heard they added some famous people like Zach Galifianakis and Eugene Levy too which will be sweet.
Movie lovers can watch a bunch of new flicks that just left theaters too.

Who do you think would die first in a four-way battle royale between Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler? Who do you think has had the least inspiring film career between those four? Are both answers the same?
Look, anyone who has ever written and starred in a mid-budget comedy produced by a major studio is doing pretty okay from a career standpoint, so it would be ludicrous to suggest that any of the men mentioned above is somehow a failure, despite what their biggest haters may say. But speaking of haters, only one of those four funnymen has a large and devoted anti-stan movement on Twitter that relishes in taking every opportunity to snarkily reply to a picture of him lighting a giant fake bong at a Hollywood Bowl show and tell him, “We get it man.”

Being labeled as ‘difficult to work with’ is similar to a career death sentence in Hollywood. These words are often used to describe women who stand up for themselves and set boundaries in the workplace. While many have acknowledged the sexism behind these words, the effect they have on careers is unfortunately still lasting. Katherine Heigl was one such victim, being labeled as a ‘rude’ actress by a few she has worked with in the past.

While many would stay quiet and never address these allegations, hoping that they would eventually get swept under the rug, that is simply not how Heigl functions. The actress addressed these issues head-on during interviews, challenging the mindset that caused them to exist in the first place.

Back in 2022, we got word that Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi and frequent collaborator Jemaine Clement were in the process of developing a reimagining of Terry Gilliam's '80s sci-fi classic Time Bandits for Apple TV+ with Friends alum Lisa Kudrow set to star.
Now, following a recent preview image spotlighting the new team, the first trailer has been released.
The series is described as "a comedic journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an eleven-year-old history nerd," and based on this teaser, we will be revisiting quite a few locations and characters from Gilliam's film.
Kudrow will lead a cast that also includes Kal-El Tuck (Unseeing Evil), Charlyne Yi (Knocked Up), Tadhg Murphy (Conversations With Friends), Roger Jean Nsengiyumva (You Don’t Know Me), Rune Temte (Eddie the Eagle), Kiera Thompson (Martyrs Lane) and Rachel House (Heartbreak High...

If you could travel through time, who would you want to meet? Pirates? Neanderthals? Pure Evil? Well, with “Time Bandits,” you’ll meet them all — and Jemaine Clement even plays the latter.
Based on the 1981 Terry Gilliam film of the same name, Apple TV+’s new series sends young Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) on an adventure through time when he discovers that his bedroom is actually a “time egress.” That means that Penelope (Lisa Kudrow) and her gang of bandits can use it as a bit of a waystation while traveling through time to steal major artifacts.
According to Penelope, “nothing is too big for us to steal” — except maybe the Trojan horse. Along with Kevin the Time Bandits work together to save his parents, all while stealing the best items they can get their hands on throughout history.
