In the July 2009 issue of Fantastique magazine, director Sommers had the following to say in an interview: "Steven Spielberg and I have a great script for When Worlds Collide. We just have to wait now because of Roland Emmerich's 2012. It's too close a project."
The 1998 film Deep Impact originated as a joint remake of When Worlds Collide and an adaptation of the 1993 Arthur C. Clarke novel The Hammer of God, and the project was originally acknowledged as such, although the finished film did not acknowledge any of its sources as it was judged as being different enough to not require it. Paramount Pictures began pre-production on a When Worlds Collide remake circa 2013. As of August 25, 2015, no release date had been announced.
With the commercial success of the Steven Spielberg - Tom Cruise collaboration War of the Worlds (2005), ideas flew high in remaking the whole George Pal's 1950's space trilogy (When Worlds Collide 1951, War of the Worlds 1953 and Conquest of Space 1955). None have been produced yet.
