Chris Wallace came to CNN to get heavily involved with reaching streaming audiences, and it looks like he will leave the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet still looking to do the same.
Wallace, a veteran commentator who held forth on Fox News Channel’s “Fox News Sunday” as well as NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” told The Daily Beast Monday that he planned to leave CNN, which he initially joined to participate in the scuttled streaming operation CNN+, to try his hand at reaching people via an independent digital venture.
CNN confirmed Wallace would leave three years after he initially signed on after leaving Fox News to do so. The typical anchor contract in the news business is for a similar amount of time. CNN tried to convince Wallace to stay, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Chris Stirewalt, the garrulous political analyst, is best known, perhaps, for his tenure at Fox News Channel. He’s ready to make a name for himself in a new venue.
Stirewalt famously spent time on screen defending Fox News early — and eerily accurate — projection during the 2020 presidential election that then-President Donald Trump would lose in Arizona, a key state. By the time President Biden was ready to take his oath of office, Stirewalt had exited the Fox Corp. news unit after a decade-long run, fully prepared to put his TV news career in the rearview mirror.
On Sunday, he will have to look in the cameras once again.
Stirewalt is set to anchor “The Hill Sunday,” a bid by upstart cable-news player NewsNation to insert itself into the Sunday-news field typically dominated by decades-old programs with strong video imprimaturs. The anchor believes viewers still yearn for something that tones...

Sunday morning is made for politics, and Nexstar Media Group’s NewsNation wants in on the action.
Starting in March, NewsNation will produce and air a new Sunday morning political talk show, hosted by the channels’ political editor Chris Stirewalt.
The show will “feature a variety of politicians and newsmakers discussing the latest political news from the nation’s capital,” as well as a panel of “guest commentators offering insight and analysis of the week’s key stories,” according to a press release issued on Thursday.
As described, the show appears to resemble similar fare on the major broadcast and cable channels — NBC’s “Meet the Press,” ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’ “Face the Nation,” “Fox News Sunday” and CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“We are delighted that Chris will be joining the new weekend lineup,” Michael Corn, the President of News at NewsNation, said in a statement.

Kristen Welker’s tenure at NBC News’ venerable “Meet The Press” won’t start until September 17, but the network isn’t waiting to tell viewers about it.
On Saturday, during the NBC News journalist’s last time co-anchoring the Saturday broadcast of “Today” with Peter Alexander, those who tune in will see a new promo alerting them to Welker’s imminent move. The video vignette displays Welker moments from across her recent career: in the White House briefing room covering three presidents; on the campaign trail; and moderating one of the 2020 presidential debates. The promo will also feature footage from Welker’s fill-in appearances at the “Meet the Press” desk.
When Welker takes the reins of the program from Chuck Todd, she will become the series’ 13th moderator, but just the first Black journalist to moderate the show, and just the second woman. In an interview earlier this week with Wtmj,...

Fox News Channel’s Shannon Bream is penning a very unique legacy — figuratively and literally. She not only recently became “Fox News Sunday”‘s first-ever female anchor, but she’s riding high off her third consecutive New York Times bestseller titled, “Love Stories of the Bible,” published by Fox News Books, where she is a founding author.
Bream joined Fox News in 2007 as a Washington D.C-based correspondent covering the Supreme Court. In addition to her role as Sunday anchor, Bream is a Chief Legal Correspondent for the network and host of “Livin’ the Bream,” a podcast on Fox News Radio where she shares inspirational stories, personal anecdotes and an insider’s perspective on actions and rulings from the high court.
“Let’s face it, I’m a legal nerd. My brain will probably always approach every story as an attorney,” Bream told TheWrap.

Fox News has named several new executive vice presidents as the network shifts its senior leadership lineup two months after the passing of SVP Alan Komissaroff.
“As we mark nearly two months since senior vice president of News & Politics Alan Komissaroff tragically passed away, we wanted to share news about editorial leadership changes and the components of his position that will be absorbed by his colleagues,” Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and president Jay Wallace told staffers in a memo Wednesday obtained by TheWrap. “We miss Alan every day and are still heartbroken by his loss.”
Network veteran Tom Lowell has been elevated to senior executive vice president and managing editor for Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, in which he will oversee all editorial departments as he reports to Wallace.

What the Fox is happening with the annual Super Bowl interview with President Joe Biden?
The White House on Friday night appeared to squelch any hope of the pre-game ritual taking place, noting that it had not signed off on any exchange between the president and any representative of Fox Corp., the media company with the broadcast network showing the Big Game.
“As we said earlier, we had arranged an interview with Fox Sports Host Mike Hill & Vivica A. Fox with the President ahead of the Super Bowl and Fox Corp had the interview cancelled. Fox has since put out a statement indicating the interview was rescheduled, which is inaccurate,” a White House spokesperson said.
The new statement adds another level of back-and-forth brinkmanship between the Biden White House and the company that operates one of its biggest critics, Fox News Channel.

When Super Bowl Lvii arrives on Sunday, Fox is prepared to broadcast hours and hours of the event, with all of the usual trappings — except, perhaps, one.
With just three days to go before the Kansas City Chiefs square off against the Philadelphia Eagles at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the White House has yet to commit to the traditional interview between the President of the United States and the news division of the media company broadcasting the gridiron classic, potentially shunning a conversation that would be seen by one of TV’s biggest audiences. Fox News attached no conditions to the exchange according to a person familiar with the matter, which has been a staple of the event (more or less) since President Barack Obama started doing it in 2009.
A final decision has yet to be announced, and there is still a chance the conversation could take place.

Fox News Channel named veteran Trace Gallagher to anchor its “Fox News @ Night,” a late-night entry that aims to deliver end-of-the-day reports to the network’s west coast audience.
Gallagher will take over the nightly newscast on October 3, holding forth from Fox News’ Los Angeles bureau, and will continue to serve as the cable-news outlets chief correspondent for breaking news. He replaces Shannon Bream, who launched the wee-hours news entry in 2017, originally at 11 p.m. She has moved on to take the reins at the network’s “Fox News Sunday.”
“When it comes to breaking news coverage, Trace Gallagher is one of the best in the business and having a seasoned journalist at the helm of this hour ensures our viewers unrivaled 24/7 news coverage,” said Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media, in a prepared statement.
“Fox News @ Night” is emblematic of efforts by cable-news networks to offer more news later into the evening.

Shannon Bream first tried her hand at journalism at the age of 30 after having earned a law degree. Some of the people working with her called her “Grandma Intern.” They won’t be calling her that on Sunday.
Bream will this weekend kick off a new era on “Fox News Sunday,” the jewel of the news side at Fox News Channel, which often gets more attention for its opinion programming. She will be the programs’ first permanent female host and will be the first permanent replacement for Chris Wallace, who burnished his reputation for prosecutorial questioning of newsmakers and politicians over a tenure that lasted just under two decades. Wallace raised eyebrows in late 2021, when he announced on air he was leaving the show. He later disclosed he had jumped to CNN, where he is slated to host a new program for both HBO Max and CNN’s Sunday schedule.

Joe Biden VP candidate Rep. Karen Bass did some damage control today with Fox News Sunday, taking back her past praise of Cuban Communist dictator Fidel Castro.
Bass, a five-term congresswoman who represents Los Angeles and is the head of the Congressional Black Caucus, addressed the remarks that many see deflating her chances to be tapped as Biden’s running mate.
In 2016, Bass issued a statement after Castro’s death that said “The passing of the Comandante en Jefe is a great loss to the people of Cuba.”
She now claims she didn’t know he was despised by many, particularly the Cuban refugees whose key influence in the swing state of Florida’s politics could be crucial to any Democratic presidential hopes.
“I absolutely would have not put that statement out,” Bass said to Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace.“Lesson learned, would not do that again, for sure.

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter this weekend to slam the wildly popular Broadway musical, Hamilton, but vice president-elect Mike Pence didn't seem to share the same sentiment.
Pence attended a performance of the Tony-award winning production on Friday night, where he was called out by Brandon V. Dixon -- who portrays America's first treasury secretary and the third vice president, Alexander Hamilton -- at the end of the show in a statement that was written by the cast and the show's creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and producer Jeffrey Seller, according to Broadway.com.
“We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” Dixon declared after thanking the vice president-elect for attending. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all...

The Sunday morning political talk shows — or as Donald Trump likes to call them, "the shows" — were in fever pitch two days before the presidential election. Watching Fox News Sunday, Meet the Press and Face the Nation back-to-back is not to be recommended to any but the most passionate political junkies, and even then, should only be undertaken in consultation with a therapist. Fortunately for this viewer, the fourth network show, This Week, was preempted until later in the day because ABC instead covered the New York City Marathon, which is a race that people actually

The third and final debate between Gop nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nom Hillary Clinton just wrapped at in Las Vegas. The 90-minute affair simulcast on national TV and the web was the most policy-heavy of the massively watched previous two debates, with topics ranging from the Supreme Court to immigration to tax police. But it ended like it started — with the candidates not shaking hands as is the custom in U.S. politics. Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace did the…...

Just moments after leaving the debate stage on Monday night, Donald Trump paid a visit to the "spin room" to shed light on a veiled threat he made earlier that night to "say something extremely rough" to Hillary Clinton and her family. "Everything I wanted to say I got out except for the transgressions of Bill," Trump said of his opponent's husband, former President Bill Clinton. The Gop nominee added that he didn't want to "say what he wanted to say with Chelsea in the room." "I'm very happy that I was able to hold back on the indiscretions with...

Like many, George Clooney is concerned about America's future. The Oscar winner, a longtime political activist and outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter, recently sat down for a candid conversation for Fox News Sunday. In the interview airing Sept. 18, Clooney touches on the current political landscape as well as what's surprised him most about the 2016 presidential election. "I think it's frustrating," the 55-year-old says of politics today. "You know, I grew up as a Democrat in Kentucky in the '70s, so, you know, I grew up in a place—I was a minority, you know, in that world. I didn't move to Hollywood and become a...

George Clooney is weighing in on the current political climate in the United States, and arguing that what the country needs right now is unity. "I feel as if we need to get away from the divisiveness that we're stuck in right now and the fear that we're playing off of," the Money Monster actor tells Chris Wallace on this Sunday's episode of Fox News Sunday. Growing up as a Democrat in conservative Kentucky, Clooney says he witnessed his share of political divisiveness. Hillary Clinton might think twice before she appears on Fox News anytime soon. An interview the Democratic presidential nominee did with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday” has turned into the headache that won’t go away, thanks to her comments about the FBI’s ruling on that dreaded email server situation of hers. Nearly a full week after her Wallace interview where she inaccurately stated that FBI Director James Comey ruled her statements about her personal email server “truthful,” tongues were still wagging at the Association of Blacks and Hispanic Journalists Conference. Former Secretary of State and current Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton took to Fox News Sunday for her first post-convention interview this morning, and host Chris Wallace took some time off from the grill to ask Secretary Clinton some questions with a lighter touch. As the FBI comes closer to completing its review of State Department email procedures, the media has tried harder and harder to shake loose something new about "Emailgate," and on this week's Fox News Sunday, it was host Chris Wallace's turn to give it the old college try. At the end of an interview with Attorney General Loretta Lynch about the aftermath of the Orlando mass shooting, Wallace asked a series of questions about the probe, including whether or not Lynch thought President Obama's endorsement of Hillary Clinton created a "conflict of interests" and whether she discussed the matter with Obama during a recent White House meeting.
