Beards?!

When this short comedy begins, Patricola and West inherit a boxer. Apparently, slavery was legal in 1937! Anyway the boxer ends up being a dud...easy to knock out and not particularly inspiring. BUT, and boy is this dark, the boxer becomes a boxing fiend when he sees someone with a beard. Why? Because as a child, he was viciously abused by a bearded step-dad!! So, the pair make sure a bearded man is ringside when they put their boxer in his first fight. But the beared man shows up...clean shaven! So what's next? See it...or not.

You know the comedy is weak when it turns out Buster West's comedic dancing is the best thing about the movie. The dancing is cool...the rest of the movie is just okay...which is what I've thought of other Patricola and West films.

Back When $20 Would Buy A Week's Groceries

Buster West and Tom Patricola go into the fight management game, with a boxer whom anyone can knock down. However, when he gets angry, he can beat anyone, and the only thing that makes him angry is a man with a beard. So they pay a man with a scruffy beard $10 to show up at the ring side.

It's a silly little comedy with a silly premise, but West and Patricola milk it for everything it's worth, and throw in some of their eccentric dancing on top. I wasn't impressed by the comedy that is part of the plot, but their dancing is a tremendous amount of fun.

West came out of a vaudeville family, and was in an act with his parents. Patricola had also played in vaudeville, but five years with George White's Scandals led him into movies.
