Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson took a moment to eulogize the band’s former singer, the late Paul Di’Anno, during the metal band’s concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday night (October 22nd).

Dickinson addressed the crowd prior the song “The Time Machine.”

Iron Maiden launched their Fall North American tour on Friday (October 4th) in Chula Vista, California.

Dubbed “The Future Past Tour,” the trek sees the British metal legends showcasing songs from their most recent album, 2021’s Senjutsu, as well as 1986’s Somewhere in Time.

The band played five songs from each album during the two-hour, 15-song set in San Diego, kicking off the evening with “Caught Somewhere in Time” and “Stranger in a Strange Land” from Somewhere in Time. Maiden then dove into Senjutsu with “The Writing on the Wall,” “Days of Future Past,” and “The Time Machine.”

The setlist was broken up by the occasional non-Senjutsu/Somewhere in Time song, such as “The Prisoner” from The Number of the Beast as well as “Can I Play with Madness” (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son), “Fear of the Dark,” and “Iron Maiden.” For the three-song encore,...

Star and executive producer Jane Seymour will reprise her role as Harry Wild, the titular amateur detective in the Irish mystery series.

The 2000s was a strange time for genre filmmaking and especially science fiction. While sci-fi cinema was in theory thriving, that was mainly thanks to the presence of franchises that were, in fact, their own mini-genres (like Star Wars and Star Trek). Then there were superhero films, always sort of a cousin to sci-fi, with the X-Men and Spider-Man series both exploding and the Marvel Cinematic Universe making its debut with Iron Man (2008) just as the decade came to a close.

But there were some top-shelf literary adaptations as well. Steven Spielberg’s A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001) was a flawed yet powerful expansion of a Brian Aldiss story while his War of the Worlds (2005) and Minority Report (2002) were outstanding takes on classic tales from H.G. The historic Power Trip festival kicked off on Friday night (October 6th) in Indio, California. The three-day event features six of the biggest hard rock and heavy metal acts in the world, with two bands performing each night.

Tens of thousands of fans descended upon the Empire Polo Club, the same site where Coachella is held every year. They were greeted by a giant devil-horn-shaped cactus, letting them know that they were in for a weekend of legendary rock music.

The 1950s are considered the “Golden Age” of science fiction cinema, and that’s not just hyperbole. By many accounts, more than 200 sci-fi movies were released during that decade. And while the film industry had sporadically produced quality sci-fi in the years before—ranging from Aelita (1924) to Metropolis (1927), to The Invisible Man (1933)—it wasn’t until the 1950s that classic after classic began to arrive like riches from a long-lost hidden treasure.

And when we say classic, we mean films that essentially created the template for all science fiction movies that followed. Just look at this list. The first half of the decade brought us The Thing from Another World, When Worlds Collide, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Godzilla, and Them!, while the second half ushered in This Island Earth, Forbidden Planet, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Blob, The Fly,...

Science fiction on film has been around almost as long as cinema itself. Starting in 1895 when the first public showings of motion pictures commenced in France and the United States, and as filmmakers began to realize that they could string scenes together to tell a complete, coherent story, the genres of sci-fi, horror, and fantasy were part of the equation.

Celluloid offered ambitious storytellers the chance to put images on the screen—crude at the time, but still groundbreaking—that had only been glimpsed in the pages of novels, short stories, and later, comic books and pulp magazines. And as filmmaking techniques themselves progressed, and the motion picture industry began to take shape in the early 20th century, visionaries came along with audacious ideas that moved the art form, the technology, and the genres forward well into the new millennium.

Iron Maiden has been rocking it out hard ever since their ‘The Future Past Tour 2023’ took off to a strong start. But as the tour goes on, the band has set Europe ablaze with power packed performances taking place all the way from Czech Republic to Italy.

Just last week the band concluded their Venice concert, and are now in Spain as they finished their concert in Barcelona, leaving their fans awe struck with metal spirit.

Taking to Instagram, the band thanked their fans at Barcelona and captioned: “Thank you, Barcelona!”

Exclusive: Australian-British writer Pip Williams’ novel The Dictionary of Lost Words is to be adapted as a TV series.

South Australian firms Highview Productions, known for BBC, Stan and HBO series The Tourist, and Closer Productions have acquired the screen rights to the New York Times bestseller, which has sold 300,000 copies in Australia alone and has been translated into 28 languages.

The companies struck the deal with Anonymous Content, which made the agreement on behalf of Linda Kaplan at Kaplan/DeFiore Rights for Affirm Press.

Having been published in 2020 during lockdown, The Dictionary of Lost Words was also the first Aussie work to feature on Reese’s Book Club, the female-focused book list led by Reese Witherspoon.

Margo Price will release her next album at the top of 2023. The singer-songwriter and performer has announced that Strays, her fourth studio full-length, will arrive Jan. 13 via Loma Vista Records and includes appearances by Sharon Van Etten and the Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell. But as it did, time and again over the course of its six-season run, the “Better Call Saul” finale opted for a road of its own choosing.

At the same time, “Better Call Saul” was never going to be able to ignore its fellow Albuquerque show completely. Doing so would fall somewhere between foolishness and hubris. In the striking and elegant finale to one of TV’s most consistently strong dramas of the past decade, Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman, to borrow a phrase, broke good. Having finally been apprehended, Saul structured a plea bargain that would have him in and out of prison in a plausibility-stretching-but-who’s-counting seven years. But then he saw and took an opportunity to clear the name of his ex-wife Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), and to reclaim his real name, the one he used before “Saul” committed himself to full-time chicanery. Jimmy will almost certainly spend the rest of his life behind bars, in the knowledge that he was delivered there in a moment of grace.

In the end, Jimmy McGill unbroke bad. It was a finale rife with references to regret, time machines and how there’s “no shame in going back and changing your path,” as Chuck McGill tells his younger brother. Mosfilm’s Sampo, a Russian fantasy from 1959, and Paramount’s White Christmas, a Yuletide bauble released in 1954, were both state of the art products of a big studio system. But each were Cold War entertainments driven by very different agendas: White Christmas was a gung ho military musical prettified by candy canes, VistaVision and Technicolor. Sampo was a movie out of time—a gravely beautiful folktale set in a bone-chilling winter wasteland. In short, America ladled on the optimism while Russia served up existential dread with a little popcorn on the side.

Amazon Prime Video is ringing in the month of July with a smorgasbord of new titles, from “House of Gucci” (previously available to purchase or rent on Amazon Prime Video) to classic films like “Clueless,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Yentl.” Apart from the Lady Gaga-starring crime drama, which becomes available to stream on July 2, most other titles will join the platform on July 1.
