‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has brought back numerous characters from Fox’s X-Men franchise, and these nostalgic cameos have played a key role in the movie’s massive box-office success.

Among the most eagerly awaited appearances was Dafne Keen’s return as Laura, also known as X-23, reprising her iconic role from 2017’s ‘Logan.’

Like the leading duo of Deadpool & Wolverine, Laura also lived to see the end credits of the movie, she presumably returned to her native reality and the most recent rumors are that the actress is being eyed for subsequent projects in the MCU.

Deadline brings word today that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) and Stephan James (Beacon 23) are the current frontrunners to play John Stewart in DC Studios and HBO's Lanterns.

Kyle Chandler was cast as Hal Jordan earlier this week and, according to the trade, no offers have been made yet. As we reported earlier today, F1 star Damson Idris was in the running but that no longer appears to be the case.

Both actors would bring a lot of this series and the wider Dcu and, as of now, it appears the plan is for John to be this shared world's main Green Lantern. Chandler has reportedly only signed a deal for Lanterns and no features so likely won't appear beyond the series.

Pierre is no stranger to the DC Universe after playing Dev-Em in Krypton and recently became a fan favourite choice to play John after starring in Rebel Ridge.

The newly-released MCU film brought back some of the actors from past Marvel movies including Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Chris Evans (Johnny Storm), Dafne Keen (X-23), and Wesley Snipes (Blade).

While fans were happy to see them reprise their iconic roles, some of them are also wondering whether there were more actors that the film was also planning to bring back before they settled with the aforementioned stars.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, the clawed mutant meets Laura, his "daughter" from the Earth-100005 timeline. We first encountered her in 2017's Logan, with Wolverine making the ultimate sacrifice to give her and the other young mutants a chance to fight for the future. 

While the threequel's Wolverine is a Variant from an unspecified reality, he ultimately chooses to make a home for himself on Earth-100005 alongside Laura (who was saved from The Void by the Tva). 

However, it's now been confirmed that X-23 is not a Variant. Instead, she's the real deal from Logan! 

"Shawn and Ryan are very intelligent people," actress Dafne Keen told ComicBook.com in a recent interview. "I was ready to be that annoying actor that's like, 'And what about this?' They had an answer for everything. [I said], "So how long has it been, am I Variant, what's going on?'"

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released over a week ago, and the movie is smashing box-office records while being a critical success. Jennifer Garner had to get “Marvel fit” for her “Deadpool & Wolverine” cameo as the sai-wielding assassin Elektra, and she revealed her workout plan in an Instagram video on Monday.

Garner’s return as Elektra was one of the A-list superhero cameos in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and she revealed that Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy originally pitched the role to her while working together on the 2022 film “The Adam Project.”

“I remember the moment @slevydirect and @vancityreynolds had the idea for Elektra Natchios to show up in @deadpoolmovie 3— we were on the set of ‘The Adam Project’ and they gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes — there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two,” Garner wrote on Instagram.

As expected, "Deadpool & Wolverine" is loaded with plenty of surprising cameos. That's just how the MCU rolls these days, and while some of the cameos have been revealed in trailers (for instance: Marvel dropped a final trailer that just flat-out gave away the return of X-23 from "Logan"), a chunk of the cameos remained unspoiled. Perhaps the biggest bunch of cameos comes in the middle of the movie. During this portion of the film, Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson aka Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine are stuck in a drab, grey void. After fighting each other to exhaustion, they're brought to a secret location and introduced to a group of Marvel characters from previous films who are fighting to escape. 

The group includes Dafne Keen's Laura aka X-23, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Wesley Freakin' Snipes as Blade.

Six years after the last installment, the third (and possibly final) installment of the Deadpool film series has finally arrived, and this time, he isn’t alone. Wolverine has also made his return for what may be the best buddy superhero movie to date.

Actor Ryan Johnson has wanted this team-up for years. Hugh Jackman had previously announced his retirement from the character, but 2022 changed all of that with a surprise announcement that, thanks to the MCU, Reynold’s dream could finally come true.
