Mr. Marcus directed several crummy videos, this one reissued on a 3-fer DVD titled "Amazing Black Trilogy". Its stablemates on disk are "Ebony Princess" starring Dominique Simone and a feature not listed at all in IMDb "Waiting to XXX-Hale".
The essence of "Essence" is Marcus running a brothel that he plans to franchise nationally, using the gimmick of a card resembling a credit card that is an aphrodisiac. The sotry he wrote makes no sense, just an excuse for six sex scenes featuring busty Brooke Harlow (who also stars in the elusive XXX-Hale movie) and fan favorite Cherokee.
The dialog tries for some street slang inefffectively and Marcus's direction of even simple scenes is poor. Guest starring to keep it from being an all-Black cast is Vince Vouyer, who wants to try out IR sex, and ends up being impressed enough to bankroll the franchising scheme. A subplot of cops out to bust Marcus for his prostitution racket is largely irrelevant.
