The actress made a recent appearance on Hot Ones, where host Sean Evans asked her to expand on her previous comments about The Substance script potentially being “something extraordinary or could be an absolute disaster.”

“It really means that it was holding something that was worth the risk,” Moore said of her recent body horror film, which saw her play Elisabeth, opposite Margaret Qualley’s Sue.

The G.I. Jane actress continued, “And I felt that way also about Ghost because it had so many different genres mixed together that, truly, I thought, ‘This could either be amazing or a fucking disaster.’ Either way, it’s usually the kind of juice that says, ‘Step in. Adam Somner, an award-winning assistant director, producer and longtime collaborator of Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson, has died. He was 57.

Somner died Wednesday of anaplastic thyroid cancer, a family spokesperson announced.

Born in the U.K., Somner built a successful career in Hollywood, working alongside Spielberg, Scorsese, Anderson, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Ridley Scott. His most recent project was Anderson’s untitled Warner Bros. film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Some of the movies Somner worked on with Spielberg throughout his career were West Side Story, Lincoln, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Ready Player One, Bridge of Spies and Munich. Adam Somner, a respected assistant director and producer for filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Alejandro Inarritu and Ridley Scott, died Wednesday of thyroid cancer in Studio City. He was 57.

Most recently, Somner served as producer and assistant director on Anderson’s upcoming Warner Bros. film starring Leonardo Di Caprio. He was part of the producing team for Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza,” which was nominated for a best picture Oscar.

Born in the U.K., Somner got his start assisting on films such as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” before moving into assistant directing. He was third assistant director on Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” and continued working with the director on numerous films including “West Side Story,” “Ready Player One,” “Lincoln,” “Munich” and “War of the Worlds.”

Oscar-nominated producer Adam Somner, who was among the most in-demand first assistant directors in the business during the past few decades, died November 27 from anaplastic thyroid cancer. He was 57.

Somner was the go-to Ad for the likes of Steven Spielberg (12 films), Paul Thomas Anderson (six) and Ridley Scott (six). He also worked multiple times with Scott’s brother Tony, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and James Mangold. His most recent films include Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Steve McQueen’s Blitz and Anderson’s upcoming untitled Warner Bros. film starring Leonardo Di Caprio.

“Gladiator II” (Paramount) is expected to gross over $60 million when it open this week in the U.S./Canada. If so, that will be a strong start for Ridley Scott’s 29th feature in his 45-year career.

With a budget reported to be somewhere around $250 million-$300 million, it will need all of that and more. While this may be his fourth film to cost over over $200 million (adjusting to current dollar value), “Gladiator II” appears to be the highest spend of Scott’s career.

It’s also the record expense for a director over 80. Paramount’s decision to entrust Scott clearly speaks to his past performances, particularly internationally.

We surveyed all 28 previous Scott features, calculating their grosses and budgets at 2024 values. And while a $60 million “Gladiator II” opening would be a record on paper, that only works if you don’t adjust his track record to current dollars and ticket prices.

The world premiere of Paramount Global’s “Watson” raised the curtain on this year’s Mipcom in Cannes. The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.

Demi Moore has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Paramount+ series “Landman,” Variety has learned.

Moore joins previously announced series lead Billy Bob Thornton in the series, along with cast members Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez.

The series is based on the podcast “Boomtown.” The official description for the series states it is “set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas” and the world of oil rigs. Jeff Titus, who has spent 21 years in prison for the murder of two deer hunters in 1990, is a free man thanks to evidence discovered by a true-crime series and podcast.

Titus, a 71-year old man, left Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater, Michigan, in part due to Investigation Discovery’s Killer In Question and Susan Simpson’s podcast Undisclosed.

It marks the latest innocent man to be freed as a result of the boom in interest in true-crime projects.

Titus’ conviction was overturned by U.S. Federal District Court Judge Paul D. Borman after the Michigan Conviction Integrity Unit, the Michigan Department of Attorney General and Titus’ attorneys at the Michigan Innocence Clinic submitted a joint filing requesting that the conviction be set aside, based on multiple Brady violations uncovered.

The series is produced by Red Marble Media, filmed in conjunction with Simpson’s Undisclosed podcast. It was they that uncovered the violations.

Janet Yang, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, called her organization’s response to Will Smith’s physical assault on Chris Rock during last year’s Oscar telecast “inadequate.” She made the comment amid opening remarks during Monday’s annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton.

“I’m sure you all remember we experienced an unprecedented event at the Oscars,” Yang told the attendees. “What happened onstage was fully unacceptable and the response from our organization was inadequate.”

Furthermore, she continued, “We learned from this that the Academy must be fully transparent and accountable in our actions, and particularly in times of crisis you must act swiftly, compassionately and decisively for ourselves and for our industry. You should and can expect no less from us going forward.”

Come another Oscar season, and “G.I. Joe” is on everyone’s lips again.

Following Chris Rock’s quip at Jada Pinkett Smith’s “G.I. Jane” likeness (and Will Smith subsequently slapping him onstage at the Oscars), actual “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” star Channing Tatum reveals that even he did not want to partake in its sequel, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.”

During a Vanity Fair lie detector test video, Tatum talked about his time on the two films, starting with the 2009 “The Rise of Cobra.”

“The first [sequel] I passed on seven times, but they had an option on me, and I had to do the movie,” Tatum said. “So the second one, I obviously just didn’t want to do that one either.”

Tatum noted that he asked to be killed off within the first 10 minutes of the 2013 sequel, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” Dwayne Johnson instead led the follow-up film as Roadblock.
