Bones signs off on Tuesday, after 12 seasons of crime solving, evidence examining, blood, guts and, most importantly, bones. But at the core of the long-running Fox procedural -- the “heart of the matter,” if you will -- was a partnership between forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz).

From their first episode together, Brennan and Booth’s dynamic was electric, and while the will-they-or-won’t-they of it all took nearly seven seasons to sort out (more if you count that they don’t actually tie the knot until season nine), their relationship kept fans hooked for all 245 episodes. We watched Brennan wrestle with her feelings as Booth looked for love, saw them lay it all on the line only to yank it back again, and finally, at long last, got to witness their happy ending. Expect the line-up of Marvel's Avengers on-screen team to be quite different by the time the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" saga is all over.

Speaking at the Wizard World New Orleans convention this weekend, the film's directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirm that some previous supporting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be upgraded to key players. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Joe says:

"I want to see some storytelling from some of the secondary characters. We're focusing on that right now with Infinity War while we're breaking into those movies, is which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven't had their own 'A' story arc to this point. I think you'll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers."

That also means some Avengers might just shuffle off the mortal coil in the battle against Thanos. Joe Russo continues:

Attending Wizard World New Orleans, Joe and Anthony Russo were joined on stage by Chris Evans, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie.  When the fan Q&A portion of the panel began, one audience member asked if there was one particular scene that each cast member would like to film for their character.  Grillo took the first shot at the question, stating"I'd like to kill Captain America," which drew cheers and laughs from the audience who know exactly what he's referencing from the comic book.  However, bigger cheers erupted when Joe Russo added, "We may or may not have filmed that scene, though." The Sundance Film institute has released the line-up of film for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Going to Sundance is one of my favorite events of the year. I love going because you never know what kind of movies you're going to see. Sometimes they are great films that amaze and entertain, other times they completely suck ass, but that's all part of the fun of going to the festival. It's an awesome experience for any hardcore movie geek, and if you ever get a chance to go, you need to.

The event takes place in Park City, Utah next year from January 21st to the 31st. It looks like there's a great line-up of movies at next year's event. My favorite portion of the event is the Midnight section because it deals more with geeky genre type movies, but I also enjoy the various sections of other line-ups.

The Sundance Film Festival has today revealed the 65 films which are going to make up the 2016 Us and World Cinema Competition Dramatic and Documentary categories, along with those which make up the out-of-competition Next slate. This is a very diverse and interesting list, and one which Sundance Institute executive director Keri Putnam is clearly very excited to show off next year.

“At a time when big-budget blockbusters and free online content are ubiquitous, independent filmmakers continue to be extraordinarily creative, artful and inventive.”

Updated: The Seven Arts Entertainment CEO, his wife Susan and lawyer Michael Arata have been found guilty of conspiracy to wire fraud in Louisiana to the tune of $1.1m.

Hoffman, the former CEO of Carolco Pictures, the powerhouse producer behind such films as Total Recall and Terminator 2, faces up to 405 years in prison after a New Orleans jury reached its verdict on Monday.

The three defendants were found guilty of submitting false documents in 2009 related to the renovation of a New Orleans mansion converted into a post-production facility.

Prosecutors said Hoffman and Arata did this to receive film tax credits although they never incurred expenditure in the first place and hid the fact via “circuitous bank transfers”.

Hoffman was also convicted on 21 related counts of mail and wire fraud

Arata was convicted on seven counts of wire fraud and four of giving false statements and faces a maximum term of 185 years.

South by Southwest, the multi-faceted film, music and technology festival held annually in Austin, TX will feature such upcoming films as Paul Feig’s Spy, David Gordon Green’s Manglehorn, Alex Gibney’s documentary Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, and Ondi Timoner’s Russell Brand profile Brand: A Second Coming as headliners in this year’s film festival lineup.

SXSW runs from March 13 to 21 in Austin and is now in its 22nd year. Variety has details of the 145 films and 100 world premieres bowing at this year’s festival. Brand, as previously reported, will be the festival’s opening night film.

He was a one-eyed, drug-addicted piano genius who wore a wig stuffed with marijuana and once held a gun to his head on stage – now a new film tells James Booker's extraordinary story

It was the legendary Louisiana musician Dr John who memorably described James Booker as "the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced". Though Booker – who died from hard living in 1983 at the age of 43 – would have undoubtedly approved of the description, it does diminish his musical stature somewhat, while only hinting at his flamboyance and talent for self-destruction.

In a new documentary, Bayou Maharajah, which screens at the Barbican this week as part of the London jazz festival, Booker emerges as a complex figure, dogged by demons and an on-off addiction to heroin. "When I moved to New Orleans in 2006, I heard his name a lot," says its director, Lily Keber, who hails from Georgia.

NCIS fans can all take a breather now that the tear-jerking farewell of Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) is behind us, but just as we can’t quite shake the memory of the beloved character, we’ll see our NCIS team react in much the same way in this evening’s episode, “Under The Radar.”

Executive Producer and showrunner Gary Glasberg explained to me yesterday how they went about crafting the first episode minus Ziva, what emotionally might be coming for Gibbs and he supplied some intel on the just-announced NCIS spinoff that will be set in New Orleans.

TV Fanatic: Were there also challenges with "Under the Radar" because it’s the first Ziva-less episode? How much do you focus on it, how much you don’t? She’s still very present in the episode.

New Orleans — For more than two decades, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has closed with a performance by the city's own Neville Brothers.

On Sunday, that tradition changed. Aaron Neville performed on a stage with his new band while young brass band frontman Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews closed the festival's biggest stage – where the Neville Brothers once held court the last day.

Andrews and his band, Orleans Avenue, entertained a jam-packed crowd as the festival ended its 2013 run. A sea of faces stretched to the track's back fence.

Neville said he views the closing lineup change as kind of a "passing of the guard.

"Trombone Slim, as I call him, will do a great job," Neville said of Andrews. "I remember when it was Professor Longhair out there and then we did it for a long time. It's time. Slim is a big musician and I'm proud of the way he's handled himself.

Over the next two weekends, fans of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival will be treated to traditional jazz as well as rock `n roll, Cajun, gospel, blues, hip-hop, funk and zydeco.

"The way the talent fell into place this year, it became a very special year for us," festival producer Quint Davis said. "It's Jazz Fest, but it's also B.B. King, Willie Nelson. It's Ben Harper. It's Hall and Oates. We ended up with probably the greatest living proponent in each kind of music we feature here.

South by Southwest (SXSW) is just one of many film festivals, we here at Sound On Sight cover yearly. The fest, which takes place every spring in Austin, Texas, began in 1987, and has continued to grow in size every year. The fest announced the first wave of films back in early January, and the lineup included some highly anticipated films such as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Evil Dead, Downloaded and Spring Breakers. Now the full lineup has been announced, and it just might be one of the best lineups the festival has ever programmed.

On 21 November 1980, 83 million people in the Us and 24 million in the UK watched the TV show Dallas to see who had shot the villainous Jr Ewing. While working late at the office, the boss of Ewing Oil was suddenly fired on by an unseen assailant. Who shot Jr, and would he survive?

Any character who had ever come into contact with the oleaginous Texas oilman had good reason to do away with him, but there was no way he could really have been killed off. If Jr had died, then the series would have died, because Jr was Dallas – and Larry Hagman, who has died aged 81 after suffering from throat cancer, was Jr.

Other actors were at times replaced in their roles, but Hagman was irreplaceable. Nevertheless, just in case, Hagman quickly renegotiated his contract with Lorimar Studios just after...

TV icon Larry Hagman, best known for playing the iconic J.R. Ewing on both the original Dallas on CBS and the current incarnation on TNT, passed away on Friday at Medical City Dallas hospital from cancer complications. He was 81.

Hagman — shortly after TNT’s update was announced in summer 2011 — revealed that he was being treated for “a very common and treatable form of cancer,” later specified as Stage II throat cancer. After enduring chemotherapy and radiation treatment, Hagman announced in mid-2012. “I beat that thing. I am in remission now. All good!”

Since the premiere of TNT’s Dallas, viewers have been in awe of two things: How much they’re enjoying the reboot and how gloriously out of control Larry Hagman’s eyebrows are. For EW’s cover story, writer Karen Valby spoke to Hagman about his now signature look. “Before,” he says of his first time around on Dallas, “they were always using mustache wax to keep them down and tame. And I thought well I’m an older person now, and I can do whatever I damn well want to. So just let ‘em grow out and become wild.

At the time, the "Dallas" dream season was considered the standard by which all other TV "shark jumping" was to be measured (outside of the original "Happy Days" episode, of course). Well, to promote the TNT reboot of the series, they're bringing the fabled Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) shower scene back and everyone is coming with him.

The campaign, which reads "They're back. And no, you're no you're not dreaming," features the full cast, dressed in bath towels, standing in a shower the size of Texas. Perhaps the most odd part of the whole matter, outside of one group shower among family members, is that J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) stands awkwardly with his cowboy hat still on. Also, did someone paint Josh Henderson's abs or are they naturally marked that way?

The whole poster got us thinking about some other famed scenes of group semi-nudity, towels and general weirdness through the years.

Sound On Sight will once again be covering the SXSW Film Festival this year, making it our second time attending. 130 feature films will screen at the Austin, Texas fest taking place March 9-17, including 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. As previously announced, Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods will have the honours of opening the festival, and now they have released the full list of films – and it’s looking pretty amazing. SXSW Film has just announced its features lineup for the 2012 edition, running March 9 through 17. We already knew that the Opening Night Film would be Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods. For its Closing Night Film, the festival will host the world premiere of of Emmett Malloy’s documentary Big Easy Express (more below). The lineup, with descriptions from the festival:

With Sundance 2012 Film Festival over, the next big one on the horizon is South by Southwest, which we’ll be heavily covering. The biggest chunk of the line-up has been announced today, which has some great premieres including 21 Jump Street, Tiff and Sundance hit The Raid, Will Ferrell‘s Casa de mi Padre, the documentary Girl Model (which we liked at Tiff), as well as the next from Broken Lizard, The Babymakers. There are many other promising titles included and you can see them all below. Check back for our coverage for the fest, kicking off March 9th.

Attendees of South by Southwest 2012 are in for a treat. 130 feature films will screen at the Austin, Texas festival taking place March 9-17. Among them are 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. The organization already announced [1] Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods would open the festival (the movie is phenomenal [2]) and today the majority of the remaining line up has been revealed. One of the highlights is the unbelievably smart and hilarious 21 Jump Street, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. Both of those are World Premieres. Other highlights include The Hunter, Killer Joe, The Babymakers, frankie goes boom, God Bless America, The Imposter, The Raid, Bernie and Casa de mi Padre just to name a few. Make It Right has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will join Brad Pitt as host of “A Night to Make It Right”, a charity gala to raise vital funds to complete Make It Right’s goal to build 150 environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

The gala will be held at Hyatt Regency New Orleans on Saturday, March 10, 2012 and also celebrates the hotel’s grand re-opening. Performers will include Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Seal and The Neville Brothers, and the host committee includes Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Blake Lively, Djimon Hounsou, Josh Brolin, Bennett Miller and Chris Paul.

New Orleans -- The last time Bruce Springsteen performed in New Orleans it was less than a year after Hurricane Katrina hit, and "The Boss" moved thousands to tears at Jazz Fest by belting out such lyrics as "How can a poor man stand such times as these?"

Springsteen is returning to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival this April. But this time, things will be different in a city that is healing from the devastating 2005 hurricane, according to Jazz Fest producer Quint Davis.

"The last time he walked on that stage this was a city in ruins," Davis said Tuesday, recalling an emotionally fragile audience with hands in the air and tears in their eyes as Springsteen sang the lyrics to "City in Ruins".

"Now this is a city that's alive. It's a city of triumph," Davis said. "We've come a long way."

The South by Southwest Film Festival announced its feature film line-up Wednesday, piling heaps of cinematic goodness on an already stellar program that includes Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, Duncan Jones’ Source Code, Ti West’s The Innkeepers, Conan O’Brien’s tour documentary, and the latest Simon Pegg-Nick Frost comedy, Paul, with Seth Rogen.

Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight) returns to the festival with her latest film, Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried, after the writer-director spoke on a screenwriting panel in 2009.

Plus a few favorites from the Sundance Film Festival last month, like Tom McCarthy’s Win Win, Morgan Spurlock’s The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, and Max Winkler’s Ceremony.

‘Tapping into the cultural zeitgeist,’ at SXSW 2011

Austin, Texas – The SXSW 2011 Feature Film Lineup was unveiled Wednesday afternoon. The festival lineup will consist of 130 features, in nine full days of programming, promising to deliver a film-going experience unlike previous years.

With a reputation for taking chances on relatively unknown filmmakers, the SXSW panel of judges carefully picked 130 films from 1,792 feature-length film submissions, (1,323 U.S. and 469 international). The program consists of 60 World Premieres, 12 North American Premieres and 16 U.S. Premieres.

The main competition categories return with eight Narrative Features, and eight Documentary Features, both competing for their respective Grand Jury Prize. New for films in competition this year, are awards for screenplay, editing, cinematography, music, and acting.

The 2011 lineup continues the SXSW tradition of tapping into the cultural zeitgeist, highlighting emerging talent and breakthrough performances and supporting first-time filmmakers.

There are a total of 130 features screening this year including 60 world premieres, 12 North American premieres and 16 U.S. premieres! This year the a total of 1,792 feature-length films were submitted, which is the most ever.

There are going to be some amazing films shown this yea. Opening night kicks off with Duncan Jones' Source Code (Moon). The fest rolls on with Jodie Foster‘s The Beaver, Greg Mottola‘s Paul, Sundance Grand Prize doc winner How to Die in Oregon, Errol Morris‘ Tabloid, Victoria Mahoney‘s Yelling to the Sky, Azazel Jacob‘s Terri. There will also be a special screening of Catherine Hardwicke‘s Red Riding Hood.

The Midnight and SXFantastic sections will be announced with the shorts program next week.

The South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) just announced their entire 2011 feature film lineup, and there’s isn’t a lot of note, with regards to this blog’s focus.

Titles you should be aware of – all of which we’ve previously profiled on Shadow And Act – include, Victoria Mahoney’s feature film debut, Yelling To The Sky (which will actually make its world debut at the Berlin Film Festival later this month); plus Blacktino, the first feature film from writer/director Aaron Burns, a self-described “blacktino nerd from Austin, Texas,” who got his start at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios doing visual effects; Benda Bilili, a documentary about a band of homeless, disabled Congolese; and last, but not least, Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey, a documentary about the black man that happens to be the man behind the puppet (which also played at Sundance).

This new season 7 episode opens where it left off last season, with Shane Casey (Edward Furlong) holding Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) and their baby at gun point in their home. This was Lindsay's (Anna Belknap) attempt to play 'macho woman', now that Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) has gone. No, really, Lindsay has even taken to wearing high-heeled stilettos (one of Stella's traits in the show.) Anyhoo, moving on - this cliff-hanger from last season, wasn't so much a hanging-off-cliff moment, waiting for Lindsay to fire the bullet and put us out of our misery in not having to watch her macho posturing and inflating nostrils, for too long, and kill Casey. From the very beginning of WWE Films’ latest release, Knucklehead, it is abundantly clear that no one is swinging for the fences. Everything about the movie is engineered with an effort to garner some kind of emotional impact while exerting as little actual effort as possible. Unfortunately, with a list of stock characters including a gentle giant, an amoral sports manager in search of redemption, and a former-stripper with a heart of gold, Knucklehead never raises itself above the level of cliché.

This Saturday night marks the premiere of Syfy's latest cryptozoological creature feature, Mothman. Earlier this week I somehow got invited to get up extra early (by my standards) to take part in a conference call Q&A with stars Jewel Staite and Connor Fox.

Perhaps it was lack of sleep that led to me realize shortly after the call began that I had no earthly clue what the heck to ask either of them. Could also have been due to having not seen the film and Syfy not having done much to promote it until the past couple days.

I'm guessing most of the other callers taking part also had some difficulty coming up with questions to ask considering someone actually asked them to compare Louisiana and California movie catering.
