what would you do with $964,000?

Sylvia Cass (Tyne Daly) is secretary to New York Almafi costume jeweller Mr Clopperman, who dies in his office with a safe full of $964,000 in money from stolen jewellry. Sylvia and Clopperman's salesman Bert Medwick (Richard Crenna) split the money but are pursued by Clopperman's underworld partners.

Crenna and Daly provide a great comic team. Crenna wears the loud jacket of a salesman and uses a Nu Jersey accent, whilst Daly wears a Peter Pan hairstyle, is given a montage of dress clothes, and looks great in a shimmery blue evening gown with black cape. Her funniest scenes are when she tries to transport her money in Bert's `weirdo lane', when she clings to the arm of Awgy (Bubba Smith) as he beats up Bert, and the look on her face when she sarcastically thanks Bert with `You're so gracious'.

The teleplay by Harold Jack Bloom and Howard Albrecht gets weaker after the initial discovery, with director Georg Stanford Brown using violence which undermines the comedy, and the conclusion is unresolved, but the romance between Sylvia and Bert isn't such a leap because of the sensitivity that both Daly and Crenna bring to their characterisations.
