Norman Lovett and Ian Pattinson wanted to make the sitcom and it's quirky sense of humor in the tradition of another BBC sitcom "The Young Ones".
The pilot aired on 9th June 1989, but the first full series didn't air until 24th March 1993.
In 1987, 2 years prior to the sitcom, Norman Lovett appeared in a Sandplate Advert, which he talks to the camera and sands and talk to living tables and chairs. In the sitcom, Norman Lovett plays Norman Lovett, an inventor living with his talking dog and would talk to the camera.
According to Norman Lovett, the program was cancelled after one series mainly because Alan Yentob, the Controller of BBC 2 at the time, disliked it. He also said it was never given a real chance to find an audience because it wasn't shown in a primetime timeslot. It was never repeated.
Was inspired somewhat by Norman Lovett's life as a bachelor before he met his wife and started a family, which occurred around the time the pilot episode was made.
