Robert Shriving is working a top secret project when he is killed when his computer explodes. His business partner Duncan Free doesn't believe it was an accident but when he checks his work computer he is baffled by the data.
Free meets Shriving's friend Gail, a masseur who is an MI5 informer and is grabbed off the street. Journalist Larry Knight joins forces with Duncan and Tessa when he discovers that Robert was trying to stop hackers exploiting his data.
Free meets Robert's contact Rose Tressider but when he mentions her Ministry boss Jolyon Wickford she stops cooperating. With the Fraud Squad looking to protect Circon, Free and Knight decide to break into their company bunker.
