On account of a low budget political drama, Shashi Kapoor immediately agreed to do the film without going through the script. He charged Rs. 101 as his signing amount.
The National Award jury gave Shashi Kapoor a very hard time. Shashi was in the running to win the National Award for best actor 1986. But the jury was prejudice and stated that Shashi Kapoor was a "commercial" star from "commercial" cinema and he should not get the award. The logic was absurd and wrong due to the fact that all actors should get a equal chance at winning. Eventually they ended up awarding the best actor trophy to Shashi with the excuse that "He also made art house films, so it was okay to let him have the award".
A certain group of lawyers in India filed a lawsuit against the filmmakers for a particular dialogue in the film, "Vakil sabhi jhoothe to hote hain" (All lawyers are liars).
Shashi Kapoor signed the film with Rs.100 as the signing amount as it was a low budget film.
