In Joe Johnston's 2011 World War II action flick "Captain America: The First Avenger," the title hero (Chris Evans) had to face off against a wicked villain nicknamed the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). The Red Skull had been physically enhanced by advanced super-steroids, but the drugs did a number on his skin, leaving his face bright red and kind of skull-looking. The Red Skull was also the evil Nazi leader of Hydra, a super-Nazi group. In their bid to take over the world, the Red Skull and Hydra had built hundreds of high-tech laser weapons, hoping to use them to take over the world. All the weapons needed was a power supply. Curious that Hydra scientists could initially build working high-tech weapons without a power supply, but "America" abides by simple comic book logic.

Hollywood star Chris Evans has finally said that he is married to Alba Baptista. The ‘Captain America’ star made the comments in his first public outing a month after it was reported that he got hitched to the 26-year-old actress, with the actor also sharing they had two wedding ceremonies, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“I got married. It was really, really great,” Chris told fans as he spoke about the double celebration while flaunting his wedding ring at the New York Comic Con.
“We kind of had two ceremonies. We had one on the East Coast, we did one in Portugal – my wife’s Portuguese. But they were just… wonderful and beautiful. It’s a lot planning a wedding – for those of you who are married you know, it takes a lot out of you.”

This post contains spoilers for "Ghosted."
Apple TV+ has gifted us all with what is sure to be another soon-forgotten streaming movie in the form of "Ghosted." As /Film's Josh Spiegel opined, "Ghosted" is a high concept in need of good writing, which basically means that while the idea of a regular guy falling for an international spy and becoming embroiled in her dangerous exploits wasn't necessarily doomed to fail, the script for "Ghosted" ensured that this particular attempt was. However, the film isn't without its charms, pairing Chris Evans and Ana de Armas to capitalize on the chemistry they showcased in previous projects such as "Knives Out," and generally just being a bit of fun.
And if you're a fan of Evans' Captain America, "Ghosted" even caters to you fine folks. In fact, from the outset the film seemed preoccupied with playing on the actor's Marvel Cinematic Universe history,...

Some MCU fans have been clamoring for more scenes between Chris Evans's Steve Rogers, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson, and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes for quite some time. And while Marvel hasn't made that dream come true (yet?), Evans kind of has in his new movie "Ghosted," released April 21 on Apple TV+. Mackie and Stan both have cameos in the spy thriller/rom-com, which also stars Ana de Armas. Then another MCU star also pops up later in the movie: Ryan Reynolds. Technically, Reynolds and Evans have never been in an MCU movie together, though, since the former's Deadpool is only joining the universe with "Deadpool 3," but we still think it counts. We're breaking down the three MCU cameos ahead!
Who Does Anthony Mackie Play in "Ghosted?"
During the film, Evans's Cole chases de Armas's Sadie to London, thinking that it'll be a grand romantic gesture that will seal their burgeoning attraction.

Only two weeks have passed since Marvel welcomed the arrival of the first Avengers: Infinity War teaser and already, Joe and Anthony Russo’s starry tentpole has racked up a staggering 100 million views on YouTube.
That number continues to climb at an exponential rate, so it’s small wonder why Infinity War now holds the title as the most-watched trailer debut of all time within 24 hours. But YouTube content creator and all-around video wizard Darth Blender has produced a decidedly different take on the Avengers: Infinity War trailer.
Much like Darth Blender’s videos for Justice League, Injustice II and Spider-Man: Homecoming, this latest sizzle reel (see below) gives Infinity War the retro treatment, and is edited in such a way that Reb Brown and Burt Reynolds take point as Iron Man and Captain America.

Below the video, you'll find a list of all the films that were used and all the characters that the actors are meant to play.

Superheroes are everywhere these days – I don’t need to bring up Box Office Mojo to show you that the most popular movies of the last five years usually feature characters who’ve leapt from the pages of a comic book! Hell, even “Batman V Superman”, a movie which was universally panned by critics, still managed to make close to a billion dollars solely by virtue of having two of the most popular comic book characters in there! That’s insane, and it doesn’t extend to movies – we’ve got numerous TV shows (the CW alone has five shows based on comic books, and that’s just one channel), animated series, videogames, and of course, more weekly comic books than you could ever hope to read while maintaining a healthy adult life. You might be wondering why we suddenly have such an influx of superhero media, and the short answer is,...

We’re currently in a boom period for superhero films, with plenty more on the way. It’s the golden age for comic book fans. Characters like Wonder Woman, Dr. Strange and the Justice League are all coming to theaters, joining established franchises like Thor and Captain America. But some of you may not know that these characters all had live-action movies made about them before. Cinelinx looks at 7 obscure super films you probably haven’t seen.
#1. Doctor Strange: In 1978, a two-hour made-for-tv movie aired about the master of the mystic arts. Dr. Strange was meant to be a pilot for a proposed weekly CBS TV series. Peter Hooten played Doctor Strange and Jessica Walters played villainess Morgana Le Fey. CBS was already airing Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk and was trying to go for the hat trick, bringing the Doc to TV. However, it was not to be.

'Jurassic World' velociraptor kicks Iron Man ass at worldwide box office. 'Jurassic World' officially surpasses 'The Avengers' at worldwide box office Directed by Colin Trevorrow; starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Vincent D'Onofrio; and co-executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic World has officially become the third biggest worldwide box office hit in history. The Jurassic Park sequel – or reboot, as it's basically the same story with a slightly different twist – has surpassed Marvel's Joss Whedon-directed all-star superhero flick The Avengers, which broke box office records back in 2012. Of course, "officially" just ain't what it used to be – like, in the days before The Fall. So you wisely ask, "But which movie has actually sold the most tickets?" After all, that's the true measure of a film's popularity. Well, that's a tough one to answer without the studios providing accurate, precise numbers. And that's not about to happen. It always...

Last week, we attended our local comic convention, Rhode Island Comic Con, with the goal of interviewing some of the cons amazing guest lineup for Hey You Geeks. Turns out, the con was a case-study on how not to run a convention. The geeks came in force, but the con just wasn’t equipped to handle the masses. This got us to thinking about the state of geek culture. As experiences have shown, geek culture is booming, but we wonder; Is this the peak? In the long shadow of geekdom, a sub-culture built from outcasts and niche obsessions, what does it mean to be a geek today? After pondering these questions, we end the show with the two fun interviews we did manage to grab at Ri Comic Con, one with Reb Brown, the first Captain America, and the other with Sesame Street and Great Space Coaster puppeteer, Jim Martin.

Well, there you have it, Transformers: Age of Extinction is the first film of 2014 to open over $100 million, but it was really close as the final number for Friday-Sunday ended up being $100,038,390. So don't worry, all those headlines from Sunday are safe, as are those that said the film made a record $300+ million worldwide in its first three days to go along with its "A-" CinemaScore and what is being reported now as a $210 million budget. 22 Jump Street finished its third weekend in second, tallying $15.8 million, bringing its domestic cume to $140.2 million while How to Train Your Dragon 2 dropped another 46.4% as the family film just can't seem to grab a foothold, bringing in only $121.9 million in its first three weeks. Think Like a Man Too dropped a massive 64.7% down to fourth after taking the box office #1 last weekend and Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys is almost forgotten, dropping 42.1% in...

It was a big weekend for Godzilla as it not only brought home $93.1 million domestically, but another $103 million internationally for a total of $196.1 million worldwide in three days. The big kicker for this one is that it doesn't open in China until June and Japan until July. No wonder they are already working on that sequel. The weekend's other new release didn't enjoy the same amount of success as Disney's Million Dollar Arm fizzled, bringing in only $10.5 million. Last weekend's #1, Neighbors dropped 48.9%, bringing in $25 million while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fell another 52.7% and a third weekend totla of $16.8 million, bringing its cume to $172.1 million, well off where the first film was at by this point back in 2012. In other news, Captain America: The Winter Soldier passed $250 million domestically this weekend, Darren Aronofsky's Noah is now over $100 million and Disney's Frozen ($1.206 billion) is poised to pass Iron Man 3...

The final numbers are in and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finished its first weekend run with $91.6 million, only $400,000 less than estimated. While it's not the $102 million it was tracking toward, it's still the second highest opening weekend of 2014, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $95 million in April. Elsewhere at the top of the box office, The Other Woman dipped only 41.8% to $14.4 million, Heaven is for Real dipped 39.4% for a third weekend total of $8.6 million and Captain America 2 added another $7.7 million to its total, which is now $679.8 million worldwide, the third highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Final Note: I have found the issue with the accuracy leaderboards and will need to redo the results before they are cleared up completely. However, it's not a major issue, though the numbers will be a little different. I hope to find time to clear them up completely before results are listed next weekend.

It doesn't happen often, but every now and again the studio actually nails their estimates and Fox nailed it this weekend with The Other Woman, which was estimated at $24.7 million and once actuals came in it didn't budge, taking the top spot from Captain America: The Winter Soldier after three straight weeks at #1. The weekend's other new release, the Paul Walker and RZA actioner Brick Mansions, dropped only $100,000 to $9.5 million with spot on predictions by Roger and Trent Carroll. In terms of holdovers, Heaven is for Real held on nicely, dropping only 36.6% from last weekend for a $16.2 million finish while Transcendence dropped 61.2% to a mere $4.2 million as the Johnny Depp-led sci-fi film is dying a quick death. Finally, one note on the accuracy leaderboards. A couple of you emailed me asking about the accuracy percentages, wondering why they didn't drop dramatically after the bombing of Transcendence last weekend.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier held the top spot at the box office this weekend for the third weekend in a row, but newcomer Heaven is for Real was able to leapfrog Rio 2 and score a second place finish with a $22.5 million Easter weekend, and a total of $29.5 million since its Wednesday opening. In fourth was Transcendence, slipping even further, down to $10.8 million for its opening frame followed by A Haunted House 2, which also slipped from estimates, down to $8.8 million for the weekend. The weekend's other new wide release was Disneynature's Bears and it seems people must not like bears as much as they like chimps, African cats, oceans or the Earth as this is the worst opening for a Disneynature film yet at only $4.7 million. I've listed the current top ten from the points and accuracy leaderboards directly below and you can find the full leaderboard here.

No major shifts in the numbers this weekend as Captain America: The Winter Soldier dropped $200,000 from early estimates, finishing its second weekend with $41.2 million, a 56.6% drop from its opening weekend, which is right on par with previous Marvel installments. Rio 2, bumped up $300,000, finishing its opening weekend with $39.3 million, which is $102,000 more than the 2011 original. The sequel was made for $13 million more than the original ($103 million), but as with the first film, it won't be the domestic box office that declares this film a winner. The first Rio made $341 million internationally and the sequel has already generated $124.3 million as it too is likely to become a massive, worldwide success. Both Oculus and Draft Day stayed spot on with their estimates, coming in with $12 million and $9.7 million respectively. Neither that much of a success, but with a budget of only $5 million, Oculus is already a winner. I've listed the current...

It's still an April opening weekend record, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier came in with $95 million for the three-day weekend, $1.6 million under estimates, which is understandable considering that's a lot of pennies to count. Captain America 2 edged out 2011's Fast Five for that April record, but come 2015 it will be time for Fast & Furious 7 to attempt to give the Fast franchise its April record back on the weekend of April 10. In second was Noah and Paramount was spot-on with the $17 million estimate, though I'm sure they were hoping they had sold the film short as a 61% drop from its opening weekend is not what the doctor ordered. Worldwide the $125 million-budgeted film is up to $178.5 million, though I'm not sure if all territories have reported numbers. As a matter of fact, estimates were really close this weekend as Divergent came in only $100,000 below the estimated $13 million and God's Not Dead holds strong with $7.7 million,...

In lock up at a high security prison due to his part in the Aldrich Killian/Mandarin plot, the story unfolds as a documentarian with access to Trevor attempts to dig deeper into the apparently shallow actor, digging up footage of Trevor's first big acting break on a CBS '80s TV show called "Caged Heat...

I remember sitting in my bedroom in Inglewood, CA in my teens reading yet another awesome issue of The Amazing Spider-Man. The early ’90s: some would say that this was the apex of the golden years for Marvel’s marquee character. Howard Mackie and Tom DeFalco (who must have been under mind control or something) were waiting in the wings to ruin everything, but I digress. This article is about comic book movies.
Back in those days there was already talk about Marvel taking the movie business seriously, up until that point they relied on studio’s like Troma Films (Toxic Avenger) to handle their films, which as you might imagine produced less than stellar results (Dolph Lundgren as Punisher, Reb Brown as Captain America and the immediately and mercifully killed original Fantastic Four film starring who cares honestly).
Their cross town rivals had the luxury of being owned by Warner Bros.

Reb Brown -- the guy who played Captain America in two TV movies in the 1970s -- feels the producers of this summer's remake violated an unspoken rule ... by not asking him to make a cameo in the new film. Brown tells TMZ that at one pint ... the producers told his rep they were into the idea of having him make an appearance in the movie. But before he knew it ... he was reading about...

The 1970s was not a kind decade for live-action television based on comic book heroes. First there was the Cathy lee Crosby misfire of a Wonder Woman telefilm then there were the Reb Brown Captain America telefilms. Spider-Man made it to prime time as a series but it didn’t resemble the comic in tone or style and died a swift death. But the absolute most mind-numbing and cringe worthy hours featured DC Comics’ stalwart heroes and villains.
I’ve never seen an NBC executive explain what made them think the two specials that aired in January 1979. The Challenge and The Roast, aired as Legends of the Superheroes, were probably the first time mass audiences were introduced to Green Lantern or Flash or Hawkman but they certainly knew Adam West’s Batman, Burt Ward’s Robin and Frank Gorshin’s delightful Riddler. As a result, the aging trio donned the...

In the tradition of Vampire Hunter and Psycho Kickboxer, Moronic Mark makes fun of another movie that that stars a guy who could easily kick his ass with one finger. This time that person being Reb Brown (heck Shannon Tweed could probably do it too, but Mark might like it too much). Reb Brown's career did start of pretty promising with the 2 Captain America tv movies and some decent theatrical flicks, but then after Howling 2: Your Sister Is A Werewolf things were never the same and you could see Reb in stuff like Firing Line. Here's Mark's take on it and a salute to Reb's other career highlights (and an ending that will hopefully delight fans of Steve Parsons).
