Few horror movies are as fantastic or as retroactively controversial as "Rosemary's Baby." Decades after its release, what are we to make of a movie about a woman's bodily agency that was made by a man –- Roman Polanski –- who was later convicted of statutory rape? It's just one of several tricky questions that's elicited by any thorough look back at the film; in addition to Polanski's life story, both of the movie's surviving cast members (see below) have been embroiled in their own complex and traumatic situations in the years since the film debuted in 1968.
It's a tricky legacy for a phenomenal movie that works on the strengths of all involved, including a powerful young Mia Farrow, who turns Polanski's already-sharp take on Ira Levin's great book into something unforgettable. Most of the other actors who made the film a classic are gone now, including John Cassavettes...

Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova evade capture in the latest sneak peek at “Black Widow,” which aired on Sunday during the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Watch the embed above.
The film will premiere in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on July 9.

The full synopsis from Marvel Studios says: “Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

“The evolution of art is in constant flux,” says Ethan Hawke. “I don’t know what the future will bring.”
Hawke, one of this year’s Vision Award recipients at the 10th iteration of the Sun Valley Film Festival, has been championing independent cinema since he first emerged on the big screen as a teenager in such films as “Explorers” and the Oscar-winning “Dead Poets Society.” By the time he starred as intellectual slacker extraordinaire Troy Dyer in Ben Stiller’s now-cult classic “Reality Bites,” Hawke was the pop cultural embodiment of Generation X and the epitome of 1990s 20-something, post-collegiate ennui.
A four-time Oscar nominee — most recently for his 2014 turn in Richard Linklater’s experimental drama “Boyhood” — Hawke’s debut small-screen project, the Showtime pre-Civil War miniseries “The Good Lord Bird,” comes to the Sun Valley fest as not only a rousing example of American historical fiction, but Hawke’s unwavering commitment to high-quality,...

Netflix has acquired in an auction the worldwide rights to “Heart of Stone,” a spy thriller that will star Gal Gadot in what could be an action franchise in the vein of the “Mission: Impossible” series for Skydance Media.
“The Old Guard” writer Greg Rucka wrote the screenplay with Allison Schroeder. Tom Harper, known for “The Aeronauts” and “Wild Rose,” will direct.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
Gadot would also produce through her Pilot Wave banner along with Jaron Varsano, Bonnie Curtis, and Julie Lyn, and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will also produce.
Gadot returned to her superhero franchise with “Wonder Woman 1984” back on Christmas Day, and she’ll also reunite with her director on that film Patty Jenkins for a new take on the “Cleopatra” story, as well as a third “Wonder Woman” movie that’s being fast-tracked. She’ll also...

Exclusive: Netflix has prevailed in a competitive auction for worldwide rights on Heart of Stone, the espionage thriller developed by Skydance Media with Gal Gadot starring. Tom Harper, who helmed The Aeronauts and Wild Rose, will direct a film that aspires to hatch a female-centric franchise with the action and global scale of films like Mission: Impossible and 007.
It is the second major deal with a streamer this week for a Skydance-generated tentpole-sized film, after Amazon acquired the Chris Pratt starrer The Tomorrow War.
The deal brings Gadot back into the Netflix fold. The actress, who just opened in Wonder Woman 1984 for WarnerMedia, will star with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in Netflix tentpole Red Notice, the Rawson Marshall Thurber-directed heist film.
Deadline revealed Skydance Media film in December, when David Ellison and team at Skydance signed an eight-figure deal for Gadot to star in Heart of Stone.

2021 is turning out to be just as crazy a year as 2020. We’re only halfway through the first month at present and the new year’s already delivered a ton of headlines that you never expected to see. Case in point: Armie Hammer is being accused of being a cannibal.
No, really. The Call Be Your Name actor found himself at the center of a Twitter storm this week after multiple people produced supposed evidence of disturbing online conversations they’d had with the actor, in which he expresses some, er, peculiar tastes.
The weird thing is the fallout from this incident isn’t just confined to social media. In a further unexpected development, Hammer has dropped out of upcoming romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding, which he was due to star in opposite Jennifer Lopez, in response to the allegations. It’s not that he was forced out, though, and in his statement to the press,...

Armie Hammer has dropped out of Lionsgate’s “Shotgun Wedding,” in which he was set to star with Jennifer Lopez, amid a social media firestorm about what the actor calls “bulls— claims” about him.
“Given the imminent start date of ‘Shotgun Wedding,’ Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision,” a production spokesperson said. The role will be recast.
Hammer’s decision to leave the project comes after leaked messages purporting to detail the star’s sex life, including a supposed interested in cannibalism and rape fantasies, surfaced on an Instagram account under the name House of Effie.
But the actor on Wednesday flatly disputed the legitimacy of the DMs. “I’m not responding to these bulls— claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to...

During the pre-video/broadcast television era of the mid-seventies, college campuses were teeming with movie offerings on a weekly basis. It was the only way to see older theatrical titles in their uncensored form. My own experience at the University of Illinois provided 8 to 10 films per weekend with recent Hollywood hits, classic revivals and the occasional porn flick being the usual choices. Lecture halls, auditoriums and even church sanctuaries were converted to temporary cinemas that offered a cornucopia in 16mm. These were quality exhibitions with twin projectors, external speakers for clear dialogue and anamorphic lenses when needed. It seemed a little odd that one could view a somewhat racy movie in the same space that would be used for worship the next morning. I would often take in several titles on Friday and Saturday nights for the bargain price of...

Disney has officially rescheduled the theatrical release of director Kenneth Branagh's 20th Century Studios' feature "Death on the Nile", based on the 1937 novel by Agatha Christie, for September 17, 2021:
"...while on holiday in Cairo to board the steamer 'Karnak', set to tour along the Nile from Shellal to Wadi Halfa, 'Hercule Poirot' (Branagh) is approached by successful socialite 'Linnet Doyle' (Gal Gadot). She wants to commission him to deter her former friend 'Jacqueline de Bellefort' from hounding and stalking her: Linnet had recently married Jacqueline's fiancé, 'Simon Doyle', which has made Jacqueline bitterly resentful.
"Poirot refuses the commission, but attempts unsuccessfully to dissuade Jacqueline from pursuing her plans further.

While the nation was glued to the round-the-clock election results, the domestic box office suffered another slow weekend. For once, the blame couldn’t be pinned exclusively on the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic or the dearth of major-studio tentpoles in theaters.
Still, the weekend did produce a new box-office champion, as Focus Features’ thriller, Let Him Go, debuted at No. 1 in North America with $4.1 million. The R-rated film, which stars Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as grandparents who race from their Montana ranch to rescue their young grandson from a dangerous family in the Dakotas, opened in 2,454 theaters and earned a $1,670 per-screen average. It fared well with critics and audiences alike, getting 77% and 78% fresh ratings respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
Focus, the specialty division of Universal Pictures, pulled off a box-office exacta by scoring the No.2 finisher as well this weekend thanks to the PG-13-rated chiller Come Play. In its second week,...

Kenneth Branagh made a big splash with his 2017 film adaptation of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. He wonderfully played detective Hercule Poirot in the film and will reprise the role in his adaptation of Death on the Nile.
Well, the BBC is now developing their own new Agatha Christie project, which will be an adaptation of the 1936 novel The ABC Murders. The series will be told in three parts and they've cast John Malkovich to take on the role of Hercule, and I have no doubt he's going to be awesome! I actually like that casting a bit more than Branagh. It's also been announced that Harry Potter's Rupert Grint has signed onto the film as well. He will play Inspector Crome. Here's the story description from the book:

John Malkovich and “Harry Potter” star Rupert Grint have signed on for “The ABC Murders,” an Agatha Christie adaptation for the BBC in Britain and Amazon in the U.S. Shooting gets underway in June and will see Malkovich become the latest actor to take on the role of the famously mustachioed Belgian detective.
Kenneth Branagh played the sleuth in the 2017 film adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express” and is reprising the role in a remake of “Death on the Nile.” David Suchet and Alfred Molina are among those to have played the part on the small screen.
Grint has signed on to play Inspector Crome. The cast also includes Andrew Buchan (“Broadchurch”), Eamon Farren (“Twin Peaks”), Tara Fitzgerald (“Game of Thrones”), Bronwyn James (“Harlots”), and Freya Mavor (“The Sense of an Ending”).

Movie release dates have had a knack for being unpredictable beasts, as of late. Today, three movies proved that statement to be true as 20th Century Fox re-assed their upcoming movie release schedule, deciding to push back a few of their biggest films. Specifically, Predator, Alita: Battle Angel, and Death on the Nile.
Shane Black's Predator film is one of the most intriguing films to release in 2018, and just so happens to be the film with the least movement. Instead of releasing on August 3, Fox has circled September 14, 2018 has the new release date for the film starring Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Yvonne Strahovski, Alfie Allen, and Thomas Jane.

This article marks Part 1 of the 21-part Gold Derby series analyzing Meryl Streep at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at Meryl Streep’s nominations, the performances that competed with her, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the contenders.
Prior to 1978, Meryl Streep was best-known for her acclaimed New York stage work. She made five Broadway appearances between 1975 and 1977, including a turn in “A Memory of Two Mondays/27 Wagons Full of Cotton” (1976) that brought Streep her first – and to date, only – Tony Award nomination. Her sole big screen appearance was a small, albeit memorable, turn opposite Jane Fonda in “Julia” (1977).
Streep’s name recognition increased significantly in 1978. First, there was her much-heralded performance in the epic NBC miniseries “Holocaust” that resulted in an Emmy Award. It was her second-ever appearance in a feature film, however – and in a Best Picture Academy Awards winner, no...

This review contains spoilers for Paddington 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Split, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and War For The Planet Of The Apes.
2017 was a great year for film, and a tremendous one for genre films in particular. As you can probably tell from the composition of our writers' top films of the year list, there was no shortage of interesting, unique or just plain great films tailored to genre fans of all stripes in the last twelve months.
However, even as Hollywood spends the first two months of each year patting themselves on the back, this kind of film rarely translates into awards, at least outside of the technical categories. Guillermo del Toro's The Shape Of Water, which doesn't hit UK cinemas until February, should be this year's breakthrough film,...

It looks like there's a possibility that the latest big-screen adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express could be the start of an Agatha Christie cinematic universe. I actually thoroughly enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express and I'm looking forward to the sequel based on the novel Death on the Nile.
Director Kenneth Branagh is now saying that these films could very well open the door to the development of a cinematic universe based in the world that Christie has created in her novels. While talking with Associated Press, he talks about the possibility of it, saying:
"I think there are possibilities, aren’t there? With 66 books and short stories and plays, she — and she often brings people together in her own books actually, so innately — she enjoyed that. You feel as though there is a world — just like with Dickens, there’s a complete world that she’s created...

Death on the Nile: Kenneth Branagh, who recently starred as Agatha Christie's famed fictional detective Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express (above) and will reprise the role in the sequel Death on the Nile, also based on a Christie novel, wonders about more connected movies drawn from her work: "I think there are possibilities, aren’t there? With 66 books and short stories and plays … There’s a complete world that she’s created." [Associated Press] Little Jules Verne: Academy Award-winning director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist, above, with Jean Dujardin) has come on board the animated movie Little Jules Verne, "adapting the script and dialogue." The original script was written by Anne and Gérard...

While you were anticipating and then arguing about “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” 20th Century Fox‘s glossy “Murder On The Orient Express” quietly went around the track at the worldwide box office to the tune of $311 million. Not too shabby for a movie that only cost $55 million, and the studio is clearly pleased as punch with Kenneth Branagh‘s efforts, with development on the sequel, “Death On The Nile,” already underway.

Murder On The Orient Express may have received mixed reviews from critics, but it has made a tidy sum at the box-office which prompted Twentieth Century Fox to put a sequel into development. Based upon Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile," the sequel will see Kenneth Branagh reprising his role of Hercule Poirot, and as Christie wrote a great many Poirot mysteries, the possibility exists for... Fans of Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express will have to wait awhile for its sequel, Death on the Nile, because the actor/director is heading into his next family friendly effort for Disney. Branagh is set to helm the adaptation of the best-selling Ya fantasy novel Artemis Fowl -- described as "Die Hard with fairies" -- and he's just cast the eponymous lead character with an unknown. According to Deadline, he and casting director Lucy Bevan saw 1,200 kids before picking an Irish lad by the name of Ferdia Shaw. They also chose Josh Gad for the role of the kleptomaniac dwarf Mulch Diggums, making him the second member of the Orient Express ensemble to come aboard since Dame Judi Dench is already attached as...

The world’s most famous mystery writer, Agatha Christie, is back in the spotlight in a big way. The success of “Murder On The Orient Express” has sparked development on a follow-up, with the adaptation of “Death On The Nile” now in the works. However, that movie may be a bit of a way off, so if you need another fix of murderous thrills, it’s time to put “Crooked House” on your radar.

Your aunts and grandmas were right all along, Agatha Christie is cool. Actually, a couple The Playlist staffers are also secret/not-so-secret fans of the famed mystery writer. At any rate, she’s enjoying a renaissance thanks to “Murder On The Orient Express,” which has quietly circled the globe to the tune of $148 million and counting. Nope, it’s not superhero numbers, but evidently, 20th Century Fox has deemed the figure for the $55 million movie good enough to start working on a sequel.

It's been revealed that Twentieth Century Fox is developing a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express and that sequel will be based on Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. The studio has haired Orient Express screenwriter Michael Green to write the script for the film.
Director Kenneth Branagh is expected to return to helm the film and he will reprise his role of detective Hercule Poirot. I actually really enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express and I'm happy to hear that we will be getting another film in the franchise.
Death on the Nile was published in 1937, and the plot "places Poirot on a vacation in Egypt, discovering a murder on the Nile River as a result of a love triangle gone bad." I'm sure that the studio will once again bring together an all-star cast for the film.

Kenneth Branagh's take on Hercule Poirot will return, and Fox has confirmed a November 2019 release date
Following the quiet success of Kenneth Branagh's take on Murder On The Orient Express at the box office last year, 20th Century Fox soon decided to pick up the tease left behind from the movie for a follow-up. And now said follow-up has been confirmed.

The new film will be Death On The Nile, and Branagh is expected - along with his moustache - to star in and direct the film again. What's more, it's been dated in the Us for November 8th 2019, which puts it head to head with the next James Bond film. UK dates haven't been announced, but if it comes down to whether Bond or Poirot will blink first and change dates, our money's on Poirot.

Chris here. Has everyone caught up to Murder on the Orient Express yet? For yours truly, it was set exactly in the spot in Europe that Clueless said we might be "whelmed" and our Eric Blume felt the same. But that hasn't stopped audiences from turning it into a modest hit, resulting in a global take of over $150 million - and that's enough for Fox to officially kick off a mini-franchise.
The new Agatha Christie Poirot films are keeping in line with the adaptations of the 70s, so next up will be Death on the Nile - expect Evil Under the Sun afterwards should Nile be a success too. Branagh is expected to return as director and star, and Orient Express's screenwriter Michael Green will be back as well. Get ready for more CGI exotic locales and modes of transportation because this one is set on a steamboat in Egypt.

Hercule Poirot may be the greatest detective on the face of the planet, but even he is no match for the curious case of the Murder on the Orient Express.
Lifted from the pages of Agatha Christie’s timeless masterclass, 20th Century Fox and writer-director Kenneth Branagh recently brought us a new and modern take on the iconic thriller, where Branagh took point as the aforementioned Poirot. While aboard the titular, serpentine vessel, our astute lead found himself in the thick of a widespread conspiracy upon discovering that businessman Samuel Edward Ratchett (Johnny Depp) had been murdered in one of the cabins. Cue the speculation.
What followed was a whodunnit of epic proportions, but unfortunately, the film’s enviable cast couldn’t quite save it, as critics slammed the pic, with our own Matt Donato calling it “an antique mystery that chugs along at 5-miles an hour without any turns...

The big-name cast includes everyone from Johnny Depp to Judi Dench, but this snowbound Agatha Christie adaptation is a dusty, old-fashioned dud
The word “sheer” is missing from the beginning of the title. Like a dusty and long-locked display room in Madame Tussauds, this movie showcases an all-star cast in period costume, each of whom must suppress his or her star quality in the cause of being part of an all-star cast. It is a new version of Agatha Christie’s 1934 detective mystery, one of her most ingenious, all about a grisly killing on board a train that is marooned in snow. The story arguably has something to say about the nature of guilt and the nature of authorship. Kenneth Branagh directs and plays the legendary Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot with an unfeasibly large ’tache, accessorised with a demi-goatee beneath the lower lip and a pepper-and-salt colouring overall, like the...
