Tom meets the volunteer families, explains the plan they will follow for the next 12 weeks and gives them a goody box to get started cooking something simple. The chef visits some of them at home.
Step two is to encourage the families to be more organised by following 3 simple rules to boss the kitchen: plan ahead, shop from a list and batch cook meals for the freezer so they can be ready anytime.
Tom's 6-step plan to transform family eating habits nears the half-way stage. Tom wants to get all of the family members helping out in the kitchen not just one designated cook and it's never too young to learn how to cook.
Tom shifts the focus onto health, using his recipes as inspiration to get his families eating more fruit and veg. Tom tests some of his recipes on his brother Sam with his niece Peyton acting as judge in a cook-off between the pair.
For step 5 of his plan Tom motivates the families to take more exercise and eat the right food to fuel their bodies. He encourages the sporty members of the group to teach the others.
In the final part of his experiment, Tom gets his 8 Fresh Start families to cook bigger dishes than ever before and tests whether they are healthier and happier than 12 weeks ago.
