In celebration of its 10th anniversary in 2025, Jane Tranter‘s production firm Bad Wolf (Doctor Who, His Dark Materials) is launching the Blaidd Writers Program, a “rolling six-month paid development and training initiative to find and nurture the next generation of Welsh drama writers, in association with Screen Alliance Wales.” Participants will be mentored by screenwriters Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, National Treasure), Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who, It’s A Sin) and Marnie Dickens (Gold Digger, Wilderness)

The scheme, unveiled Tuesday, will see three writers develop, with Bad Wolf, an original, contemporary Wales-set returning drama. They will also take part in master classes with industry professionals, including the co-creators of HBO and BBC’s hit drama Industry, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, and screenwriter and In My Skin creator Kayleigh Llewellyn.

Exclusive: Sky has found its Mozart’s wife for Joe Barton’s upcoming Amadeus series about the world’s most famous composer.

Gabrielle Creevy, who has just wrapped Barton’s Black Doves series for Netflix, will star as Constanze opposite Will Sharpe’s Mozart. Constanze was married to Mozart from 1782 and 1791 and was also a trained Austrian singer. She and Mozart had six children, four of whom died in infancy. Starz has scooped up Three Women after Showtime decided not to move forward with plans to air the drama. Showtime’s trimming down its lineup as it gets integrated into Paramount+, and its loss is Starz’s gain.

BBC One prison drama Time has beaten Channel 4/HBO’s It’s a Sin to the Best Mini-Series BAFTA TV Award.

The Stephen Graham and Sean Bean-starring three-parter featured the two leads as a prison officer and prisoner. It was bruisingly realistic and has won its leads critical acclaim, both of whom are nominated at tonight’s awards.

“Normally everyone says we weren’t expecting this but on my ma’s life we really weren’t expecting this,” said Graham, collecting the award alongside execs.

Graham said the show had a “phenomenal cast of working class men who did outstanding powerful work.”

He praised the other nominees and said: “We’re all winners. This is what we do.”

The show is a surprise winner, beating Russell T Davies’ It’s a Sin, Sky’s Olivia Colman-starring Landscapers and ITV’s Stephen Lawrence drama Stephen.

Russell T. Davies’ Channel 4 series “It’s a Sin” led the field at the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and the British Academy Television Craft Awards with 11 nominations, while Will Sharpe’s Sky show “Landscapers” followed with seven. Both shows stream in the U.S. on HBO Max.

The show from Red Production Company also has six Broadcasting Press Guild nods and has been recognized by the Rts for Writer (Davies), Actor (Female – Keeley Hawes), Actor (Male – Olly Alexander & Callum Scott Howells), Breakthrough and the coveted Limited Series.

Host broadcaster Channel 4 picked up 28 nominations, with the BBC edging it out with 30, Sky with 10 and ITV with eight.

Hannah Waddingham, Emmy winner for Apple TV Plus series “Ted Lasso,” is joining leads Solly McLeod and Sophie Wilde in the cast of Masterpiece and U.K. broadcaster ITV’s literary classic adaptation, “Tom Jones.”

HBO Max is at the Head of the Class with the first trailer for its upcoming reboot of the 1980s ABC sitcom.

The comedy revolves around a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge — a teacher (played by One Day at a Time‘s Isabella Gomez) who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life. The Writers Lab UK and Ireland, the international offshoot of the script development program for woman and non-binary writers over 40, has unveiled its first cohort of screenwriters and projects.

Exclusive: AMC Networks streamer Acorn TV has found its latest British crime series in the shape of Adrian Scarborough starrer The Chelsea Detective, which is created and co-written by Peter Fincham, the man who originally greenlit Downton Abbey for ITV.

Scarborough, a prolific English actor who has starred in Killing Eve, Gavin & Stacey, 1917, and A Very English Scandal, will take on the title role of Detective Inspector Max Arnold, who plies his trade in Chelsea, uncovering the murky underbelly of a well-heeled borough of London.

The Chelsea Detective will be co-produced by German public broadcaster Zdf, with BBC Studios-backed Expectation making the series, which consists of four feature-length episodes, each focusing on a different case.

More than a year after joining ITV Studios, A Very English Scandal producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has a name for his label and his first series. Happy Prince has been commissioned by ITV to make relationship drama You & Me, which is written by newcomer Jamie Davis and executive produced by It’s A Sin creator Russell T Davies. The three-part series is told over two separate timelines and is a story about finding love when you least expect it, with Jess, Ben and Emma all experiencing tragedy they fear they will never overcome. Davis is an actor who has appeared in Misfits and Shameless, but You & Me represents his first script commission. Executive producer Treadwell-Collins said: “Jamie’s writing is filled with such humour, heart and soul – so it feels fitting that You & Me is the first commission for Happy Prince.
