Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” was a poster child for the power of inclusion when it broke box office records in 2023, but the $1.45 billion-grossing movie is only the 119th most inclusive film made in the past five years, according to the Inclusion List.

The annual list — presented by Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, in collaboration with the Adobe Foundation — is a data-driven ranking that identified the 150 most inclusive films from 2019 to 2023 and ranks a single year’s films across gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability and age representation.

“Our goal with the Inclusion List is to celebrate those who are showcasing and working with exceptional talent from all backgrounds,” stated Dr. Smith in a press release announcing the researchers’ findings. “In the second year of its release, the newest iteration of the Inclusion List spotlights films, filmmakers, and distributors who clearly demonstrate that inclusion...

The results are in on the 2024 Razzie Awards, and it was a very big (but not necessarily great) night for one movie and one actress this year.

The annual awards show, which took place one day before the 2024 Oscars on Saturday (March 9), hands out awards to performers and movies that have been deemed the “worst.”

Going into the ceremony, Expend4bles led the pack of nominees with 7 nods in categories such as Worst Picture and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off of Sequel.

However, when it came time for the awards to be handed out, another movie swept the field, picking up five Razzies. One actress also won big, being named Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress.

‘Winnie the Pooh’ won the Razzie in the picture, director, screenplay, screen couple and remake/rip-off/sequel categories. The film, based on the beloved children’s literary character, follows Pooh and Piglet, who have become feral and bloodthirsty murderers. They terrorize a group of young university women and the returning Christopher Robin.

The Razzie Redeemer Award, bestowed on a past contender who has “gone on to better things” since being nominated for a Razzie, went to “The Nanny” actor and SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher for her leadership during the 2023 actor strike.

Drescher was nominated in 1998 for worst actress in the romantic comedy film The Beautician and the Beast.

Expend4bles tops the not-so-coveted list of Razzie Award nominations this year, with seven chances to take home a dubious honor.

Tying for a close second were The Exorcist: Believer and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, each receiving five noms.

“After strikes, lingerings of a worldwide plague and a general sense of universal agoraphobia, the decline of the cinematic experience goes without saying,” Razzie organizers said in announcing today’s nominations. “Thankfully, a doll pic and a bomb movie jump-started The Industry, which still left a trail of Pooh behind for the Razzies to pick up!”

This year’s acting contenders feature former Oscar winners Jon Voight, Russell Crowe and Dame Helen Mirren, as well as Razzie Repeat Offenders Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez.

Results were determined by the votes of Razzie Members. Five top contenders were chosen in each of nine categories. The 44th annual Razzie “Winners” (for whom there will literally be no red carpet) will be unveiled on the now traditional “Oscar Eve,” Saturday, March 9.

Awards season is here, which means it is also time for the annual Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, which aims to (dis)honor the least successful films of the year, has announced nominations for its 44th edition.

The most-nominated film is “Expend4bles,” the fourth entry in the action-packed, but critically underwhelming, “The Expendables” franchise. It received seven nominations. Tied for second place with five noms are “The Exorcist: Believer,” the revival of the classic horror series, and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a blood-soaked take on everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear. Two big-budget superhero movies, DC’s “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” both got four nominations.

Expend4bles leads the nominees for the Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — which were unveiled Monday morning.

The film earned seven nominations for the Razzie Awards, which honor the worst of the year and are announced annually ahead of the Oscars noms announcement, which takes place Tuesday morning.

Expend4bles is one of five movies competing for “worst picture” of the year. The nominees in that category, along with the Razzies’ comments, are:

Divorced of movies connected to major franchises, straight-up comedy has had a tough go outside of streaming in recent years, with only romcoms like "The Lost City" and "Ticket to Paradise" truly breaking out as unqualified success stories. Be that as it may, Universal Pictures is entering the late summer fold with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Strays," which features an A-list cast as talking dogs. Will the gimmick work? However, it’s faring a little differently on VOD. Released to PVOD after its fourth weekend, the latest entry in the horror franchise had an uneven debut over three different platforms. It is #1 at Vudu (which ranks by revenue) but is currently only #5 at iTunes and #7 at Googleplay (which calculate by transactions). It got as high as #3 at iTunes after its Tuesday release.

Two other films placed atop the others: “The Little Mermaid” (Disney), also $19.99, repeated at #1 on iTunes, while “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” (Paramount), just reduced to $5.99, leads at GooglePlay.

Tiffany Chen is publicly discussing her recent Bell’s palsy diagnosis, which she says followed her giving birth to her and partner Robert De Niro’s first child together.

In a preview clip of a sit-down interview with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King slated to air in full on Friday, Chen explained how the condition worsened after she came home from the hospital after giving birth to her daughter, Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, earlier this year.

The martial artist said that initially, her “tongue felt strange” before other symptoms arose related to the neurological disorder that can cause paralysis or weakness on the sides of one’s face after the nerves that control facial muscles are injured or stop working properly.

Jennifer Lawrence’s “No Hard Feelings” will put that question to the test as the raunchy funny film opens over the weekend in 3,000 North American theaters, where it’s expected to earn a tepid $12 million in its debut.

That’s not a terrible result at a time in which theatrical comedies, especially of the R-rated variety, have become something of endangered species. But it also wouldn’t be a great start considering its star power, $45 million budget and prime June release date. Earlier this year, Universal’s wild R-rated “Cocaine Bear” opened to $23.2 million — and (with all due respect to the drugged-up grizzly) that film wasn’t headlined by one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

After three weeks of PVOD play, “John Wick: Chapter 4” (now $5.99) returns to #1 on two of the three leading top ten charts with the lower price. Lionsgate delayed home availability for an unusual two months for this hit theatrical release, thus making an earlier than usual reduction of price unsurprising. Nor is its return to #1 unexpected.

Vudu continues with the latest “Fast and Furious” franchise release — “Fast X” — at #1. It fell to #3 at iTunes, while almost certainly an error has resulted in it being nowhere currently on Google Play’s chart (it was #1 as recently as Saturday).

Whether it was the universe’s sneaky little design or just dumb luck, I couldn’t have picked a better day to watch the Robert De Niro-starrer comedy-drama About My Father. It’s one of those films that is bound to make you go, “they don’t make films like this anymore.” Don’t get me wrong; you’d likely walk away with sloped shoulders if you went in expecting anything remotely cerebral. But what works for About My Father is that, like the strikingly flawed parents the film’s a mouthpiece for, it doesn’t try to be anything more than what it is. And what it is in its very soul that it bares to you is the story of parents who were never handed a book on perfect parenting. So, they did their bests, and like real people, they’ve made a mess of it quite a few times.

Los Angeles, June 18 (Ians) Hollywood star Robert De Niro, who has become a father again at 79, is hoping to bring his entire family together soon.

While attending “A Bronx Tale” screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, the “About My Father” actor has said that his six oldest children haven’t yet met his 2-month-old daughter Gia Virginia, with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, reports ‘People’ magazine.

Asked if his kids — which include Drena, 51, and son Raphael, 46, with first wife, Diahnne Abbott, twin sons Julian and Aaron, 27, with model and actress Toukie Smith and son Elliot, 24, and daughter Helen, 11, with Grace Hightower — have met the newest addition, De Niro said: “Not yet, but they will.”

He also said that his Father’s Day is fully booked, explaining that he is “just gonna spend it with the kids and all that”.

Universal and Blumhouse’s horror film “M3GAN,” released the very first weekend of 2023, may not be one of them, but as of now it is still the only original movie that isn’t a sequel or remake that holds a place in the Top 10 with the $95 million it’s made in North America.

Directed by Gerard Johnston and starring Allison Williams, the high-concept sci-fi horror film opened with $30.4 million in 3,509 theaters on the weekend of January 6. It managed to stick around for a while, which isn’t always the case with horror. The fact that it has done so well without being a remake or sequel is quite astounding when you look at the rest of the list of 2023 blockbusters.

Although his standup act has brought him fame, his latest project, the autobiographical film “About My Father,” is the passion project he says his father has “been living 77 years for.”

Although much of the plot to the comedy film that Maniscalco both stars in and cowrote is fictional, what is hit-the-nail-on-the-head true is his relationship with his father, played in the movie by screen legend Robert De Niro.

In a battle that came down to the wire, it appears that the autobots have the edge over the multiverse as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has emerged victorious over Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse in its inaugural weekend with an estimated $60.5 million against Spider-Man’s $55.4 million. Essentially in line with our predictions from Thursday (if we flip flop the titles as I thought Spider-Man would edge out Transformers.)

Chalk that up as a pretty big win for the Transformers franchise after the last Transformers film The Last Knight opened with just $44.6 million while the prequel spin off film BumbleBee opened with just $21.6 million. The difference maker for Beasts over Spider-Man seems to be the premium theaters that Transformers took over this week as it is reported (by Box Office Tracking company EntTelligence) that both films saw similar ticket sales for the weekend (4.3 million each). That extra $5-$10-$15 really adds up.

Updated Sunday Am: After a Saturday of $19.3M, -25% from Friday, Paramount/Skydance/Hasbro’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has taken the weekend with $60.5M. This despite Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse winning Saturday with $21.2M, +26% over Friday, for a second weekend of $55.4M.

With a running cume of $225.5M, the sequel has already beaten the domestic take of the original 2018 Oscar-winning animated pic, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which did $190.2M. Still, at a -54% second weekend hold, that’s fantastic for a Marvel movie, after you consider a bulk of the Disney MCU titles have tumbled -60% to -70% in the post-pandemic era (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the exception of late with a -48% second weekend hold).

Working in Rise of the Beasts’ favor to dominate over Across the Spider-Verse were those $8.8M previews, which were from Wednesday and Thursday showtimes.

Cattrall stars as cosmetics mogul Madolyn Addison, who hires gender-nonconforming queer man Marco Mejia (Miss Benny) to help revitalize her Glamorous beauty brand. The series debuts June 22 and also stars Zane Phillips, Jade Payton, Michael Hsu Rosen, Ayesha Harris and Graham Parkhurst.

In the trailer released Monday, Marco is an aspiring beauty expert who is awestruck by Madolyn during their chance encounter. “Why does the supermodel of the world start a makeup empire?” asks Marco, to which Madolyn replies, “Because nobody thought I could.”
