Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” was a poster child for the power of inclusion when it broke box office records in 2023, but the $1.45 billion-grossing movie is only the 119th most inclusive film made in the past five years, according to the Inclusion List.
The annual list — presented by Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, in collaboration with the Adobe Foundation — is a data-driven ranking that identified the 150 most inclusive films from 2019 to 2023 and ranks a single year’s films across gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+, disability and age representation.
“Our goal with the Inclusion List is to celebrate those who are showcasing and working with exceptional talent from all backgrounds,” stated Dr. Smith in a press release announcing the researchers’ findings. “In the second year of its release, the newest iteration of the Inclusion List spotlights films, filmmakers, and distributors who clearly demonstrate that inclusion...

Sebastian Maniscalco is headed to Hulu.
In what is considered a sizable coup for the platform, Maniscalco’s latest hour will debut as part of Hulu’s new standup initiative, which will kick off next month under the headline “Hularious.” The special, which is not yet dated, is expected to tackle what Maniscalco sees as the absurdities of modern life, from nonexistent manners and wallet-winced prices to the chaos of social media. It will be filmed during his top-selling “It Ain’t Right” tour.
“How many times do you catch yourself thinking, ‘It Ain’t Right’?” he said in a statement Thursday. “This special is my way of uniting us to laugh at the ridiculousness of the world around us, and I’m thrilled to share it with my fans. So, get your sweats on, pop yourself some popcorn, and get ready to laugh.”

Last Friday, comedian Sebastian Maniscalco had Madison Square Garden roaring with laughter with bits about Amazon deliveries scaring him when they arrive at midnight, the total oddness of New York City’s so-called rat czar, the voracious moles devouring his yard, and his wife’s (allegedly) bad driving. He pulled faces, changed his flat Chicagoland patter into silly voices, and contorted his body into knots to bowl over the sold-out crowd. At the end of the night, he warmed everyone’s hearts by inviting his mom and dad, both immigrants from Italy,...

In more ways than one, a Robert De Niro movie comes off as the perfect remake of Meet the Parents. Helmed by Jay Roach, Meet the Parents is actually a remake of a 1992 film of the same name directed by Greg Glienna. The film was initially supposed to be directed by Steven Spielberg, with Jim Carrey playing the lead role. However, when it later went to Jay Roach after Spielberg and Carrey dropped out of the project, Ben Stiller was taken aboard to play the iconic main character, Greg Focker.
When the film premiered in October 2000, it was an instant hit, raking in over $330 million against a budget of $55 million. Its success spawned two sequels, Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers, and even inspired television shows like Meet the Folks. Despite its success, Meet the Parents has never been remade. However, after watching one Robert De Niro movie, I cannot...

As you may have heard about, The Real Housewives of New Jersey may look a lot different next season.
And we might have at least idea of how right now.

The results are in on the 2024 Razzie Awards, and it was a very big (but not necessarily great) night for one movie and one actress this year.
The annual awards show, which took place one day before the 2024 Oscars on Saturday (March 9), hands out awards to performers and movies that have been deemed the “worst.”
Going into the ceremony, Expend4bles led the pack of nominees with 7 nods in categories such as Worst Picture and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off of Sequel.
However, when it came time for the awards to be handed out, another movie swept the field, picking up five Razzies. One actress also won big, being named Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress.
However, one Hollywood icon received redemption this year!

Slasher film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey swept the five categories it was nominated in for at the 44th annual Razzies, which “honor” the worst of filmmaking. The awards were announced today.
‘Winnie the Pooh’ won the Razzie in the picture, director, screenplay, screen couple and remake/rip-off/sequel categories. The film, based on the beloved children’s literary character, follows Pooh and Piglet, who have become feral and bloodthirsty murderers. They terrorize a group of young university women and the returning Christopher Robin.
The Razzie Redeemer Award, bestowed on a past contender who has “gone on to better things” since being nominated for a Razzie, went to “The Nanny” actor and SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher for her leadership during the 2023 actor strike.
Drescher was nominated in 1998 for worst actress in the romantic comedy film The Beautician and the Beast.

While Expend4bles had the most nominations going into this year’s Razzies with seven, it was Blood and Honey – which popularized a hopefully limited trend of public domain horror – that won the most with five.

Expend4bles tops the not-so-coveted list of Razzie Award nominations this year, with seven chances to take home a dubious honor.
Tying for a close second were The Exorcist: Believer and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, each receiving five noms.
“After strikes, lingerings of a worldwide plague and a general sense of universal agoraphobia, the decline of the cinematic experience goes without saying,” Razzie organizers said in announcing today’s nominations. “Thankfully, a doll pic and a bomb movie jump-started The Industry, which still left a trail of Pooh behind for the Razzies to pick up!”
This year’s acting contenders feature former Oscar winners Jon Voight, Russell Crowe and Dame Helen Mirren, as well as Razzie Repeat Offenders Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez.
Results were determined by the votes of Razzie Members. Five top contenders were chosen in each of nine categories. The 44th annual Razzie “Winners” (for whom there will literally be no red carpet) will be unveiled on the now traditional “Oscar Eve,” Saturday, March 9.

Awards season is here, which means it is also time for the annual Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies, which aims to (dis)honor the least successful films of the year, has announced nominations for its 44th edition.
The most-nominated film is “Expend4bles,” the fourth entry in the action-packed, but critically underwhelming, “The Expendables” franchise. It received seven nominations. Tied for second place with five noms are “The Exorcist: Believer,” the revival of the classic horror series, and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a blood-soaked take on everyone’s favorite honey-loving bear. Two big-budget superhero movies, DC’s “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” both got four nominations.

The film earned seven nominations for the Razzie Awards, which honor the worst of the year and are announced annually ahead of the Oscars noms announcement, which takes place Tuesday morning.
Expend4bles is one of five movies competing for “worst picture” of the year. The nominees in that category, along with the Razzies’ comments, are:
— The Exorcist: Believer: “a 50-years-later remake/rip-off that was horrifying in unintended ways”
— Expend4bles: “another installment of a franchise that’s fading faster than Razzie ‘winner’ Donald Trump’s mental acuity”
— Meg 2: The Trench: “a fishy tale about a snarky shark that flopped across all seven seas”
— Shazam! Fury of the Gods: “one of 2023’s several comic book movies failing to save the superhero genre”

Old Dads is a comedy film directed by Bill Burr, who also co-wrote the film with Ben Tishler. The Netflix film follows three middle-aged men, who find themselves not fitting in the customs of the modern and often times very fragile and easily offended world. Burr’s style of comedy makes the film work as he also stars in the lead role alongside Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine. So, if you loved the Netflix film here are some similar movies you could watch next.

Robert De Niro's big family grew by one this year with the addition of his youngest daughter. On May 8, the veteran actor told Et Canada that he had recently welcomed his seventh child at the age of 79. The "Killers of the Flower Moon" star, now 80, shared the news while talking about his movie "About My Father."
During the interview, host Brittnee Blair noted that De Niro has "six kids," and that's when he took the opportunity to announce that he's now a father of seven. "I just had a baby," he said casually. Shortly afterward, De Niro confirmed to "CBS Mornings" that he welcomed his baby girl named Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro with his partner Tiffany Chen - a martial arts instructor whom he met on the set of "The Intern" in 2015. Despite its initial box office failure and critical panning, The Machine is now a big hit on Netflix, ranking 7th in the Global Top 10. The movie's poor performance in theaters was largely due to tough competition during Memorial Day weekend. Although critics disliked the film, audiences appreciate its over-the-top action comedy, leading to a strong 87 percent audience score and success on Netflix.
The Machine becomes a big hit on Netflix four months after it bombed at the box office. Based on Bert Kreischer's viral stand-up routine, the 2023 action-comedy stars the comedian as a fictionalized version of himself and Mark Hamill as Bert's father, and follows their adventures after they are kidnapped by Russian mobsters whom Bert drunkenly wronged 20 years prior. Released in theaters on May 26, The Machine was a box office bomb that grossed only $10 million and failed to make back its budget of $20 million.

One of the genres that has struggled most in the post-pandemic landscape theatrically is comedy. Divorced of movies connected to major franchises, straight-up comedy has had a tough go outside of streaming in recent years, with only romcoms like "The Lost City" and "Ticket to Paradise" truly breaking out as unqualified success stories. Be that as it may, Universal Pictures is entering the late summer fold with an R-rated comedy in the form of "Strays," which features an A-list cast as talking dogs. Will the gimmick work? It just might.
Box Office Pro currently has the film taking in between $15 and $25 million on its opening weekend next week. That would put it in a tight race with Warner Bros. and DC's "Blue Beetle," which is eyeing a $13 to $18 million start. It is pretty damn interesting that we're at a place where an R-rated comedy, in which Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx voice foul-mouthed dogs,...

‘About My Father’ director Laura Terruso has spoken about the cast of the comedy film and said that he found Kim Cattrall as one of the funniest women on the planet. Cattrall plays Tigger Collins. Back on the digital front with ‘About My Father’, which is set to stream exclusively on August 18 on Lionsgate Play in India, Kim showcases her versatility by playing a headstrong character with a soft side.
Terruso said: “Casting is the single most important part of making a comedy and to have Robert De Niro and Sebastian Maniscalco playing opposite each other and then to have supporting them, Kim Cattrall – who is one of the funniest women on the planet.”
“David Rasche is a genius in his own right, even Anders Holm, Brett Dier.. Leslie Bibb, is just the ultimate dream woman for Sebastian and they have such incredible chemistry and I think that chemistry is everything in a comedy.

For Sony, a big win this week: The studio has announced that “Insidious: The Red Door” ($19.99) is now the biggest-grossing horror film worldwide for 2023. That’s a little surprising, but a $182 million take tops both “M3GAN” and “Scream 6” for the honors.
However, it’s faring a little differently on VOD. Released to PVOD after its fourth weekend, the latest entry in the horror franchise had an uneven debut over three different platforms. It is #1 at Vudu (which ranks by revenue) but is currently only #5 at iTunes and #7 at Googleplay (which calculate by transactions). It got as high as #3 at iTunes after its Tuesday release.
Two other films placed atop the others: “The Little Mermaid” (Disney), also $19.99, repeated at #1 on iTunes, while “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” (Paramount), just reduced to $5.99, leads at GooglePlay.

Sebastian Maniscalco's comedy, About My Father, is based on his real-life relationship with his traditional Italian father and the experience of being a first-generation Italian American. The film stars Robert De Niro, Leslie Bibb, Kim Cattrall, and other talented actors, and centers around Maniscalco's attempts to propose to his girlfriend while dealing with his father's insistence on meeting her family first. Screen Rant's behind-the-scenes clip focuses on the cast's experience working with De Niro, with Maniscalco and Bibb praising the actor's comedic skills and reflecting on his interactions with their own families. The film offers a comedic twist on De Niro's previous roles. About My Father will be available for home viewing later this summer.

Tiffany Chen is publicly discussing her recent Bell’s palsy diagnosis, which she says followed her giving birth to her and partner Robert De Niro’s first child together.
In a preview clip of a sit-down interview with CBS Mornings’ Gayle King slated to air in full on Friday, Chen explained how the condition worsened after she came home from the hospital after giving birth to her daughter, Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, earlier this year.
The martial artist said that initially, her “tongue felt strange” before other symptoms arose related to the neurological disorder that can cause paralysis or weakness on the sides of one’s face after the nerves that control facial muscles are injured or stop working properly.
“It felt a little tingly — just starting to get a little bit numb. Then I realized my face just felt weird. I didn’t know what the feeling was that I was having,...

On the VOD charts, action rules. A recent price drop to $5.99 has propelled “John Wick: Chapter 4” (Lionsgate) to continued #1 positions at iTunes and Google Play, while revenue-ranking Vudu kept “Fast X” (Universal) in the top position. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Universal), price now reduced to $19.99 (including download) placed #2 at all three sites.
New entry “The Machine” (Sony), an action comedy starring Bert Kreischer, here adapting his semi-biographical stand-up routine, is #3 at Vudu at $19.99 while placing on a three charts. It hit home viewing after its fourth weekend in theaters, where it managed only $10 million in gross.

Jennifer Lawrence’s new R-rated comedy, “No Hard Feelings,” hits theaters this weekend and made $2.15 million in previews at the box office.
The raunchy comedy from Sony is predicted to open with a soft $12 million in its opening weekend, which may not bode well considering its $45 million budget. It’s been a tough time for R-rated comedies at the box office lately, with the once profitable genre nearly going extinct. Besides this year’s “Cocaine Bear,” which made $87 million worldwide, the last few comedies, like Sony and Bert Kreischer’s “The Machine,” Billy Eichner’s “Bros,” Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert De Niro’s “About My Father” and Jo Koy’s “Easter Sunday,” haven’t not found much box office success.

Can an R-rated comedy that draws big laughs still bring in outsized ticket sales at the box office?
Jennifer Lawrence’s “No Hard Feelings” will put that question to the test as the raunchy funny film opens over the weekend in 3,000 North American theaters, where it’s expected to earn a tepid $12 million in its debut.
That’s not a terrible result at a time in which theatrical comedies, especially of the R-rated variety, have become something of endangered species. But it also wouldn’t be a great start considering its star power, $45 million budget and prime June release date. Earlier this year, Universal’s wild R-rated “Cocaine Bear” opened to $23.2 million — and (with all due respect to the drugged-up grizzly) that film wasn’t headlined by one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Attendance at the domestic box office will be crucial for “No Hard Feelings” because broad comedies...

After three weeks of PVOD play, “John Wick: Chapter 4” (now $5.99) returns to #1 on two of the three leading top ten charts with the lower price. Lionsgate delayed home availability for an unusual two months for this hit theatrical release, thus making an earlier than usual reduction of price unsurprising. Nor is its return to #1 unexpected.
Vudu continues with the latest “Fast and Furious” franchise release — “Fast X” — at #1. It fell to #3 at iTunes, while almost certainly an error has resulted in it being nowhere currently on Google Play’s chart (it was #1 as recently as Saturday).
The appeal of action titles is also shown at both Netflix and elsewhere on the VOD charts. Netflix’s original film “Extraction 2” with Chris Hemsworth (and an added Idris Elba) is #1 there, with its 2020 predecessor #3. “Kandahar” (Open Road) with Gerard Butler in an Afghanistan rescue story, which grossed under $5 million in theaters...

Whether it was the universe’s sneaky little design or just dumb luck, I couldn’t have picked a better day to watch the Robert De Niro-starrer comedy-drama About My Father. It’s one of those films that is bound to make you go, “they don’t make films like this anymore.” Don’t get me wrong; you’d likely walk away with sloped shoulders if you went in expecting anything remotely cerebral. But what works for About My Father is that, like the strikingly flawed parents the film’s a mouthpiece for, it doesn’t try to be anything more than what it is. And what it is in its very soul that it bares to you is the story of parents who were never handed a book on perfect parenting. So, they did their bests, and like real people, they’ve made a mess of it quite a few times.

About My Father is a comedy film starring Sebastian Maniscalco and Robert De Niro, directed by Laura Terruso.
The movie is a pleasant comedy that tries to be pure comedy but falls short in terms of humor and sentimentality.
Robert De Niro plays his role well, although it feels like he’s parodying himself once again.
Sebastian Maniscalco, known for his excellent Netflix stand-up comedy, brings some humor to the film with his Brooklyn-style parodies.
Storyline
The plot revolves around Sebastian, whose fiancée encourages him to bring her father, Salvo, an immigrant and a barber, to a weekend gathering with her wealthy and eccentric family. The weekend turns into a cultural clash, during which Sebastian and Salvo discover that the best thing about the family is everything related to family.

As the summer movie season motors along, we’re bound to get several more films grossing $100 million at the domestic box office. Universal and Blumhouse’s horror film “M3GAN,” released the very first weekend of 2023, may not be one of them, but as of now it is still the only original movie that isn’t a sequel or remake that holds a place in the Top 10 with the $95 million it’s made in North America.
Directed by Gerard Johnston and starring Allison Williams, the high-concept sci-fi horror film opened with $30.4 million in 3,509 theaters on the weekend of January 6. It managed to stick around for a while, which isn’t always the case with horror. The fact that it has done so well without being a remake or sequel is quite astounding when you look at the rest of the list of 2023 blockbusters.

“Write what you know,” is the sage advice usually attributed to Mark Twain. And comedian extraordinaire, Sebastian Maniscalco, has made a very successful career taking it literally. Although his standup act has brought him fame, his latest project, the autobiographical film “About My Father,” is the passion project he says his father has “been living 77 years for.”
Although much of the plot to the comedy film that Maniscalco both stars in and cowrote is fictional, what is hit-the-nail-on-the-head true is his relationship with his father, played in the movie by screen legend Robert De Niro.
“My relationship with my father’s pretty accurate. My father’s, you know, stubborn, hardheaded, judgmental, you know, that seems to be true to form,” Maniscalco told TheWrap — not in a “curse that man” way, but an “I love the old guy” way.

In a battle that came down to the wire, it appears that the autobots have the edge over the multiverse as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has emerged victorious over Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse in its inaugural weekend with an estimated $60.5 million against Spider-Man’s $55.4 million. Essentially in line with our predictions from Thursday (if we flip flop the titles as I thought Spider-Man would edge out Transformers.)
Chalk that up as a pretty big win for the Transformers franchise after the last Transformers film The Last Knight opened with just $44.6 million while the prequel spin off film BumbleBee opened with just $21.6 million. The difference maker for Beasts over Spider-Man seems to be the premium theaters that Transformers took over this week as it is reported (by Box Office Tracking company EntTelligence) that both films saw similar ticket sales for the weekend (4.3 million each). That extra $5-$10-$15 really adds up.

Updated Sunday Am: After a Saturday of $19.3M, -25% from Friday, Paramount/Skydance/Hasbro’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has taken the weekend with $60.5M. This despite Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse winning Saturday with $21.2M, +26% over Friday, for a second weekend of $55.4M.
With a running cume of $225.5M, the sequel has already beaten the domestic take of the original 2018 Oscar-winning animated pic, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which did $190.2M. Still, at a -54% second weekend hold, that’s fantastic for a Marvel movie, after you consider a bulk of the Disney MCU titles have tumbled -60% to -70% in the post-pandemic era (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the exception of late with a -48% second weekend hold).
Working in Rise of the Beasts’ favor to dominate over Across the Spider-Verse were those $8.8M previews, which were from Wednesday and Thursday showtimes.

‘Glamorous’ Trailer: Kim Cattrall Gets Her ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Moment in Netflix Queer Comedy Series
Netflix’s upcoming series “Glamorous” is like “The Devil Wears Prada” if Meryl Streep were replaced by “Sex and the City’s” Kim Cattrall and instead of Anne Hathaway, she hired drag queens and non-binary actor Miss Benny to work for her. The 10-episode LGBTQ comedy series premieres June 22 on the streamer.
“Glamorous” follows baby-faced new hire Marco Mejia (Miss Benny), a young, queer man who lands a job for the legendary CEO Madolyn Addison (Cattrall). Madolyn’s makeup line, Glamorous Cosmetics, is plummeting. Suspecting her business is being sabotaged by someone on the inside, she hires Marco to sleuth around.
“She wants him to be her eyes and ears, to make friends — and find out what’s going on behind her back, to discover what they’re hiding and what they’re stealing. In exchange, she’ll teach Marco everything she knows – but she warns him, ‘This business isn’t all glitter and glamour,...

So now when I see Leslie or I see Sebastian or Bob occasionally, he’s very busy and most of the actors are after that – before that and after that. But to see them again is just...

The past few months have been really good to animated family films with titles like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Super Mario Bros. Movie coming out and making a killing. That trend continues this weekend as Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse came out and blew past expectations with an estimated opening take of $120.5 million. The film was first tracking for a mid $80 million bow, but in our predictions from Thursday, we saw the anticipation for this one and knew it would over-perform. Now keep in mind, Sunday numbers are just projections the studios make, and they tend to go modest, so it is possible that when final numbers are reported on Monday, that number could soar even higher.
For those keeping track, that number represents a massive $85 million improvement over the first films $35.3 million opening, and with word of mouth being as positive as it currently is, I...
