Jordan Bolger (“This Town”) and Max Fincham (“Invasion”) have been cast as the leads in upcoming Netflix drama “The Witness.”

Based on the true story of the violent murder of Rachel Nickell in 1992 in front of her two year-old son Alex while walking through a London park, “The Witness” explores the aftermath of the tragedy, which also saw an innocent man wrongly convicted before the real killer was eventually caught more than 15 years later.

In the meantime, Nickell’s partner André Hanscombe was left to navigate life alone with the couple’s infant son.

Bolger will play André while Fincham will play a teenage Alex. The real André and Alex Hanscombe consulted on the series.

The Office completely revolutionized the mockumentary-style sitcom genre. The show, which was adapted from the same-titled British series, debuted in 2005 and ran for nine seasons. However, despite having a sizable fan base that continued to this day, the show had its fair share of embarrassing moments. One that specifically features Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) at the forefront.

In 2022, right after he signed to Interscope, Mexican American singer Xavi was feeling on top of the world. He was 17 years old and his songs were getting some buzz, so to celebrate, he bought a Dodge Srt with his label advance. He’d been speeding down a small road in California when he suddenly lost control of the wheel and crashed, fracturing his skull and falling into a coma for days.

Xavi spent months in the hospital. “It’s a miracle to be here, man,” he says now, looking down at his hands.

Lincoln’s murder marked the transition to an America where, mathematically speaking, 9% of all sitting Presidents have been assassinated. And they say logging is a dangerous job.

The TV show “Manhunt” on Apple TV+, premiering March 15, tells the story of how Booth evaded capture for twelve days after killing Lincoln, but it’s also a dramatization of the first few weeks of the post-assassination era of American history — the era in which we live today.

Suits star Patrick J. Adams, Connor Swindells (Sex Education, Sas Rogue Heroes), Merritt Wever (Unbelievable, Godless) and Eddie Marsan (Ridley Road, The Pact) are part of the the cast of the upcoming six-episode series Lockerbie, about the December 1988 terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight 103, for the BBC and Netflix.

Further castmembers unveiled Tuesday include Peter Mullan (Ozark, Payback), Tony Curran (Mary & George, Mayflies), Lauren Lyle (Karen Pirie, Vigil), Andrew Rothney (The Undeclared War, Traces), Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey, Guilt), Parker Sawyers (Spy/Master, P-Valley), James Harkness (The Sixth Commandment, The Victim), Khalid Laith (Vigil, Cobra) and Amanda Drew (The Gold, Wolf).

The BBC and Netflix didn’t detail what roles each castmember will play, but said that filming on the show, described as a “factual drama” made by ITV Studios banner World Productions, has begun in Scotland.

Saban Films has acquired North American rights to the British thriller “Kill,” starring Paul Higgins, Brian Vernel, Daniel Portman, Calum Ross (“Wednesday”), Anita Vettesse, James Harkness and Joanne Thomson (“The Victim”).

The film, which explores the history of violence, the power of family and the dangers of revenge, marks the feature directorial debut of Rodger Griffiths, who devised the story and co-wrote the screenplay with Rob Drummond.

“Kill” follows a hunting trip that turns deadly when three brothers plot to murder their violent, abusive father. Determined to end the cycle of abuse that has already claimed their mother, the boys bury him in the forest. But returning later to the shallow grave, there is a problem. The body is not there. As fear and paranoia set in, the trio are forced to question each other’s loyalty, with devastating consequences.

On Monday, the “La Diabla” singer announced that he’ll be hitting the road with his tumbaditos romanticos for the Poco a Poco Tour this spring.

The Interscope singer will commence the run south of the border at Mexico City’s Auditorio Blackberry, before stopping in cities such as Los Angeles, Portland, Santa Ana, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Antonio. Tickets for the shows are set to go on sale Feb. 9, with presale tickets on his website starting Feb.

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution have snapped up Scottish thriller “Kill” for the U.K. market and are set to launch international sales at AFM.

The debut feature from creator, director and co-writer Rodger Griffiths, “Kill” is a story of violence, family and revenge. It follows three desperate brothers who “return to the woods where they shot and buried their abusive father, only to find his shallow grave empty,” reads the logline. “Now, someone is hunting them.” Rob Drummond co-wrote the film, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August.

Paul Higgins (“Line of Duty”), Brian Vernel (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) and Daniel Portman (“Game of Thrones”) star alongside Calum Ross (“Wednesday”), Anita Vettesse (“Outlander”), James Harkness (“Darkest Hour”) and Joanne Thomson (“The Victim”).

The Scottish producer has landed TV rights for Natali Simmonds’ debut, which will be published later this year.

Good Girls Die Last is a darkly comic, feminist thriller, telling the story of Em who, on the day of a record-breaking heatwave, is in a race against the clock to escape a gridlocked London while a serial killer stalks the streets. Em’s life has always been full of men having their own way and today, the scorched city is teeming with them but, as her troubled past returns to haunt her, she refuses to let them win.

Exclusive: Help and The End of the F***ing World producer Jenny Frayn has joined the BBC drama commissioning team on a temporary basis.

Deadline understands Frayn joined recently to work on certain existing titles and some upcoming, mostly from the slate of Peaky Blinders producer Tommy Bulfin, who is departing soon.

She is a well-regarded British drama producer who has produced a number of critically-acclaimed shows over the past few years including Help – Jack Thorne’s Stephen Graham and Jodie Comer-starring Channel 4 drama about the Covid-19 care home crisis. The TV movie won two BAFTAs and the International Emmy Award for Best TV Movie or Miniseries.

Frayn’s other credits include Channel 4/Netflix breakout The End of the F***ing World and she also has experience working across BBC shows including The Victim and Peter Bowker’s The A Word.

She joins at a time of change for Lindsay Salt’s BBC drama department.

Shetland’s Series 7 return is a bittersweet one for fans of the Scottish BBC crime drama. The six-episode run will be actor Douglas Henshall’s last in the lead role of Di Jimmy Perez. BBC Studios has signed a development, production, and distribution deal with People Person Pictures, the company recently co-founded by The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird and Jonny Sweet (Chickens). Sundance Film Festival: London will return to Picturehouse Central, London, for its sixth year from 29 July to 1 August 2021, as an in-person event. The program of at least 12 features will open with the UK premiere of Edgar Wright’s debut documentary The Sparks Brothers, about the U.S. rock band. In partnership with Universal, consecutive screenings of the film will take place in multiple cinemas across the UK with a filmmaker Q+A simultaneously broadcast from Picturehouse Central. Rising British actor Isis Hainsworth has been cast in one of the major roles in Lena Dunham’s feature film “Catherine Called Birdy” for Amazon.

Hainsworth has just finished shooting one of the lead roles in “Metal Lords,” the first film for Netflix from “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. She also appeared in Philippa Lowthorpe’s comedy-drama “Misbehaviour” and Autumn de Wilde’s period comedy “Emma.”

Forever underlining the strangeness of the Primetime Emmy Awards calendar, the BAFTA TV Awards were held Friday, celebrating several previous Emmy winners and nominees, including HBO’s “Chernobyl,” Netflix’s “When They See Us,” in addition to Sian Clifford of Amazon Prime Video’s “Fleabag.”

Speaking of “Fleabag,” the BAFTA awards body appeared to officially end its lukewarm love affair with Phoebe Waller-Bridge before it truly began. The “Fleabag” creator and star was nominated for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme as well as Scripted Comedy and lost in both categories, in addition to losing out in the Best Writer — Comedy category at the BAFTA TV Craft awards announced earlier this month. The losses bring Waller-Bridge’s overall BAFTA TV record to 1-8, with her only win coming in Best Female Performance in a Comedy for the first season of “Fleabag.”

The HBO and Sky co-production drama beat BBC drama The Victim, Channel 4’s The Virtues and ITV’s A Confession to pick up the award.

Jared Harris also won the leading actor award. He beat The Capture’s Callum Turner, The Virtues’ Stephen Graham and Giri/Haji’s Takehiro Hira to the award. Harris joked that BAFTA had “ruined his losing streak” and he shouted out former HBO exec Kary Antholis, who told him that Daniel Day Lewis was the network’s first choice to play the role.

This comes after the disaster drama picked up three Emmys in September, including outstanding limited series as well as seven awards at the Creative Arts Emmys.

The show, which charts the fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion in 1986, was produced by Jane Featherstone’s Sister Pictures.

Stv Productions is in the mix for two BAFTA TV Awards on Friday night, when double Oscar-winner Glenda Jackson competes in the Best Actress category for dementia drama Elizabeth Is Missing and Edinburgh-set The Victim vies for Best Mini-Series. For Sarah Brown, the Scottish producer’s creative director of drama, it represents the culmination of six years of work.

“It’s been an amazing 18 months for us. The Victim and Elizabeth Is Missing are the first productions we have made since I joined in 2014. As you know, drama takes a long time to come to fruition,” she says ahead of Friday’s BAFTA ceremony, which will take place online because of the coronavirus pandemic. “The Victim was supposed to go out in 2018, but for various reasons, it didn’t go out until April 2019. It turned out quite well for us because we had two shows going out in one year.

On Friday the 31st of July, the Bafta TV 2020 awards will take place as a closed-studio socially distanced ceremony.

The event will be broadcast “as-live” on BBC One, with nominees invited to accept their awards virtually from first-time host Richard Ayoade, who will be corporeal but (possibly) presenting David Blaine-style from inside a giant glass box. There will be no virus-spreading handshakes or matey hugs. Acceptance speeches may well be comedy skits; it’s best to mentally prepare for such an eventuality.

Today’s TV award nominations were originally due to be announced on the 26th of April, with the ceremony taking place on the 17th of May, but were postponed due to Covid-19.

The Bafta Television Craft Award ceremony, presented by Stephen Mangan, will be streamed online on Friday the 17th of July. Those nominations, recognising the raft of off-screen talent in the UK and international television industry are available to see here.

The Sky/HBO mini-series is up for 14 awards (11 craft and three television), including Jarred Harris for leading actor, Stellan Skarsgard for supporting actor and best mini-series.

The Crown has the next highest number of nominations with seven, including drama series, Josh O’Connor for supporting actor and Helena Bonham Carter for supporting actress.

Fleabag and Giri/Haji both have six nominations.

Russell Tovey-fronted drama The Sister, an adaptation of Neil Cross thriller Burial, is coming to Hulu.

The digital service has boarded the drama, originally commissioned by ITV and produced by Fremantle’s Euston Films.

Michael Biehn, best known for starring in James Cameron’s “The Terminator” and “Aliens” has been cast in the second season of “The Mandalorian,” TheWrap has confirmed.

Details about Biehn’s role are being kept under wraps. Making Star Wars, which first reported the news, said that Biehn will portray “a bounty bunter from The Mando’s past.”

Last week, Rosario Dawson joined the second season of “The Mandalorian” as Ahsoka Tano, the Jedi character introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan during the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

The streaming sector in Australia will get even more competitive when BritBox, the Svod service co-owned by BBC Studios and ITV, launches later this year.

The platform will offer a mix of exclusive and non-exclusive British content, including classic and contemporary box sets.

The plan is to recruit a local team including a country manager to lead the operations in Australia, its fourth market following the Us, Canada and the UK.

The price has not been disclosed but in the UK the service, which airs such shows as Broadchurch, Call the Midwife, Poldark, The Office, Death in Paradise, Doctor Who, Downton Abbey and Wolf Hall, costs subscribers £5.99 ($A11.65) per month.

The launch date and distribution are yet to be revealed but the content will be curated especially for this market, according to BBC Studios.

Exclusive: The latest season of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s oddball dark comedy Inside No. 9 is coming to U.S. streamer BritBox.

The digital platform, which is backed by BBC Studios and ITV, is to exclusively launch the fifth season of the show on March 17. This comes after the show launched on BBC Two in the UK earlier this month. The service currently airs the first four seasons of the comedy, which has been running since 2014.

Created by and featuring Shearsmith and Pemberton, who created The League of Gentlemen, Inside No. 9 is an anthology of darkly comic tales all take place inside a location that ties back to the number nine. Whether it’s a room in a popular resort or the top floor of a luxury hotel, the stories quickly go from innocent to insidious often with a killer of a twist ending.

Catchphrase and Sex Tape producer Stv Productions is developing a UK adaptation of French entertainment format The Secret Song.

The company, which is the production arm of the Scottish broadcaster, has optioned the format from Vivendi Entertainment.

The series, which was originally created by Dmlstv, airs on TF1 in France. In each show, singers, actors, TV hosts, athletes and comedians have to sit in a chair in the middle of the stage, in the dark, having absolutely no clue about what’s going to happen. But then, the music starts playing, the lights go up, and they are surprised to hear the first notes of a song that means a lot to them.

Separately, ITV Studios Germany has also optioned the format, which has been snapped up in ten countries including Finland.

Stv produces series including ITV entertainment format Safeword, which has been remade for VH1 in the U.S.

Other winners include ‘Stan & Ollie’ and ‘Beats’.

The WWII drama, which is an adaptation of Ben Macintyre’s 2010 book, takes place in 1943 when the Allies are determined to launch an all-out assault on Fortress Europe. It follows two brilliant intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley, who dream up an inspired and improbable disinformation strategy to help the cause.

She stars in The Victim, a mini-series for the BBC and BritBox in the U.S. as Anna Dean, a Scottish mother whose nine-year old boy was murdered fifteen years ago by a 13-year old. Years later, having campaigned to be told of the killer’s new identity she is accused of revealing his new name online.

Streaming service BritBox will bring British crime drama “The Bay” to its subscribers, as well as the upcoming “Gavin & Stacey” Christmas special.

The streamer, which in North America is an equal joint venture between ITV and BBC Studios, has also landed popular U.K. shows including “Death in Paradise,” which is currently on Netflix in the U.S. but will be exclusive to BritBox in the Svod rights window. BritBox, which has about 650,000 subscribers, has also scored rights to several live events.

BritBox president Soumya Sriraman announced the new programming at the streamer’s TCA presentation, which featured panel sessions on its original Kelly Macdonald drama “The Victim” as well as “Father Brown” and “Mum.”
