A girl turns up drowned in the river. Some time later, another one shows up in the same conditions. Both ruled out as a suicide by the police chief but a stubborn inspector decides to go further and a conspiracy unravels.
Granted, the story isn't original. In fact, it contains many of the clichés we find in this kind of series, like the self-destructive cop that doesn't follow the rules and the existence of a criminal underground where news travel fast. Still, it's great to see this in Portugal, a country where there are still to few series being produced and those that reach the screen are mostly boring and badly made historical series.
The acting is top notch and the soundtrack, by Dead Combo, fits amazingly well. The direction is also very good, with a cinematography that shows the essence of both sides of the Tejo river. Unmissable for those who like crime series and everyone who lives in Portugal.

Lisbon, is the coastal capital city of Portugal which is spread between the Tagus River. A suicide of a young girl Sara daughter of a construction company owner, the body was found in the north bank of the river. Crime police Humberto and his partner Alice is taking up the case.
The protagonist of the story, Humberto is divorced, keen to his work, Work alcoholic where Alice is a family woman, hard worker, married living with her husband and her baby, keenly searching for a job in states to relocate, Loyal to Humberto.
While closing down the case, they found an unsolved case matches the profile which happened a week ago and it connects the victims made them suspect to dig more.
The writer and the director has shown a shape of the city of Lisbon where construction was canceled due to some issues in the south bank of the river, due to which unemployment leads to poverty because of Poverty crime rates are increased.
Neat and clean whodunit thriller which uncovers the killer and the chamber who ordered the killing which was explained was passable.
The way it was taken was intriguing at first went soggy till the eighth episode and engrossed in the last one.

It's a good show, with great cinematography and a very good main actor. Also good and dense secundary characters. Lisbon is a beautiful city so it shouldnt be hard to film it like this. Unfortunately very few times lisbon was this well filmed.
The plot in general was interesting to follow. The issue was with the subplots that should have been more connected with the same one. Also i would change the ending, and sometimes pace was missing even though this is more on the slow burn part of que equation.
Still very good thriller, that appeals to a wider audience, beyond portuguese borders. If you want to start with a portuguese tv show this is a great gate.

South' is a series about a sad time in Portugal, in the midst of a crisis. The actors Afonso Pimentel, Margarida Vila-Nova bring us depth and clarity to the memory of these hard times. Adriano Luz impersonates the limits of disbelief in a human being.
The split storyline and the way that two worlds collide so perfectly makes this narrative unforgettable. And the photography is beyond anything that was done in Portugal. This series has truly cinema quality.

I have seen only 3 or 4 episodes.
The show had potential to be a good one. The cast is good, the image (lighting, scenario etc) is pretty good and the story has potential to be a good one. What i did not like is the "americanization" that was done.
The detective drinks a lot, smokes a lot, acts like the detectives in typical shows from the US.
The whole thing just seems like an american detective show done in Portugal.
Other characters also act like the usual american shows.
Portugal is very different from the US and the whole show seems off, for that reason.

This story could have been told in 6 episodes, because some of them don't advance the plot. All the characters are paper thin, the exception is the lead. The story has too many plot lines. Why you need the evangelical pastor if it leads nowhere? It is very good technically. Story wise is very bad.
