The scene where Jim and Miguel are in the hotel, both watch the classic Clint Eastwood western Hang 'Em High (1968). The film's director, Robert Lorenz, worked with Eastwood for many years as a producer and included this scene as a tribute to his mentor.
Liam Neeson's character, Jim, is seen shooting his scoped rifle with both eyes open. Jim is a former Marine sniper and sharpshooter. Shooting a scoped rifle with both eyes open is a technique taught to military snipers and sharpshooters and is rarely seen being used by non-military personnel outside of professionals. It is, however, common among beginner and professional shooters when using a red dot optic.
Amber Midthunder has a small role as the gas station attendant. She would later co-star with Liam Neeson in The Ice Road (2021).
In addition to Director Robert Lorenz having worked with Clint Eastwood, seen on the hotel room TV in a clip from Hang 'Em High (1968), Liam Neeson also co-starred with Eastwood in the last Dirty Harry picture The Dead Pool (1988) as a horror film director.
Jackson, the dog, received no credit for his performance.
