The director Fellipe Barbosa had access to the photographs taken by the camera that was found along with Gabriel Buchmann's body.
With those photographs, Buchmann's notebook and e-mails sent to his family and friends, he could track down the places the tourist visited as well as the people he met. He also found some characters through Facebook.
The film is largely acted by local people whom Buchmann met along the way. The first two characters who appear in the film are the real people who found his body; Luka White and Nyiwove. The film was shot in Lilongwe at the house of Luke Mpata, a truck driver who met Buchmann at Mchinji border.
Gabriel Buchmann was a friend of the director Fellipe Barbosa, who knew him since he was seven years old.
Based on the true story of the last 70 days of Gabriel Buchmann, a Brazilian student who disappeared in Mulanje Mountain of Malawi while on the last leg of a year-long backpacking trip. He was found dead 19 days later on July 2009.
