    Summary

Reviewers say 'Terminator: Dark Fate' garnered mixed reactions. Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger's return was celebrated, with standout performances. Action scenes and special effects impressed many, deemed exciting and visually striking. However, the plot faced criticism for being repetitive and unoriginal, often compared unfavorably to earlier films. Predictability and over-reliance on nostalgia were noted issues. New characters' development varied in reception. Despite flaws, many found it an enjoyable, though not exceptional, franchise addition.

    Disappointing follow up

    I'm a huge Terminator fan, I re-watched both 1 & 2 before seeing this. Big mistake.

I'm gutted to say that this film has none of what makes Terminator 2 one of the best films of all time. The writing is below par, plot uninteresting and emotional connection between the Terminator and John Connor, none of that either. James Cameron, what is this? Mind, I don't think he's been on form for a good few years now.

What makes Terminator 2 an amazing film aside from the brilliant plot, amazing effects, great screen writing and superb acting is the emotional connection between the Terminator and John Connor. This is the life blood of that film and makes the viewer really believe that despite the hopeless future humanity is facing, if this Terminator can protect John then maybe mankind has a chance. The Terminator is a father figure to John and this is what connects the audience with the film so much. The heart wrenching ending cannot be forgotten. The fact that we forget the the Terminator isn't human because of how well the film builds the bond. This is what makes Terminator 2 so great, not the epic action sequences.

So I'm sad to say this film has absolutely none of that. CGI, CGI and more CGI. Do away with the depth of character building, emotional connections and just add over the top action. It's a poor follow up and lacks everything of what made 1 & 2 great. The acting is decent, Davis, Hamilton and Schwarzenegger do a good job but they've got very little to work with here. This is what disappointed me the most. Why does it lack substance? This is James Cameron's epic creation and this is what he serves up along with Tim Miller? A total cash in if I've ever seen one. I'm not going to divulge into the plot anymore, there's no need as it can't even be mentioned in the same breath as the first two films.

If this film was viewed as a generic action film at the cinema it'd still be mediocre. The fact that this is supposed to follow on from the brilliant Terminator 2 just makes it even more disappointing. This is James Cameron's judgment day.

Do yourselves a favour and wait until it hits home release or if you are planning on seeing it, don't bother watching the first two beforehand, you'll be even more disappointed.

    "I won't be back." - Hope not...

"Dark Fate" is a direct sequel to Cameron's original "Terminators" and ignores movies and series that have come out in the meantime, treating them as alternate timelines. I count that as a plus because the films in question are a desecration of Cameron's legacy. Also, I was glad to see Linda Hamilton and Schwarzenegger again in this franchise. But to be fair, this is no sequel, but a rather pathetic recycling of the first two films bordering on a remake. It is effective in arousing nostalgia among fans, but if we ignore that, the film is completely redundant and its only goal is to milk a few more dollars on account of the old glory.

contains everything thats wrong with hollywood those days

In its core its a rehash of everything we have seen before only worse. As many said before some characters are almost a parody of their former selfs. The writers wanted to mess with the viewers expectations. So they also included a couple of surprises that no one asked for. They even succeeded in gender swapping a key character which happens a lot in movies theses days. And of course lots of stupid jokes. The action seems to be all CGI so nothing really exiting happening. I hope they won't do another one. Its depressing to see a franchise getting destroyed this way.

    Disappointed

"Terminator: Dark Fate" attempts to revive the franchise with a blend of new characters and old favorites, but ultimately falls short of recapturing the magic of the original films.

The decision to ignore the events of previous sequels and serve as a direct sequel to "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" may have seemed like a promising approach, but the execution falters in several crucial ways. Despite the return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800, their characters feel underutilized and fail to reignite the same spark that made them beloved in the past.

The introduction of new characters, such as Dani Ramos and Grace, brings a fresh perspective to the story, but their arcs are underdeveloped and lack the depth needed to truly invest audiences in their fates. Mackenzie Davis delivers a serviceable performance as Grace, but her character is ultimately overshadowed by the legacy of Connor and the T-800.

The film's attempts to modernize the franchise with updated technology and visual effects often come across as superficial, failing to enhance the core themes and emotional resonance that made the original films so compelling. The action sequences, while well-executed, lack the visceral impact and tension that defined the earlier installments, feeling more like generic blockbuster fare than a worthy continuation of the Terminator legacy.

The plot twists and revelations feel contrived and predictable, robbing the film of the suspense and intrigue that characterized the best entries in the series. The pacing also suffers from uneven storytelling, with rushed exposition and clunky dialogue that detract from the overall coherence of the narrative.

In the end, "Terminator: Dark Fate" is a missed opportunity to breathe new life into the franchise, delivering a lackluster and forgettable addition to the Terminator saga. Despite its best intentions, the film fails to recapture the magic of the original films, leaving fans and newcomers alike with a lukewarm experience at best.

    Did they think we're idiots?

Great action scenes. And the rest is pathetic. The new terminator made a few jokes. - really? The latino girl character is SO dull and such a cliche. I am so disappointed. This is nothing like T1 and T2. When you have all the tools and resources to make it work and all you do is produce this FAILURE. SHAME!

(at around 1h 26 mins) A C-5 has a takeoff speed of 150-175 miles per hour. It also ascends at a steep angle. You cannot stand on the ramp as shown in the film while it's taking off or in-flight.

Grace knew the back door was open, so she didn't ascend at a steep angle in case anybody fell out.
