The band Lynyrd Skynyrd was named after their high school gym teacher. The gym teacher in the show is named Freebird. (A Skynyrd song).
Pinky Malinky originated as a pilot made by Cartoon Network Studios Europe in 2008, They rejected it in favor of The Amazing World of Gumball (2011). In 2015 Nickelodeon announced they picked up Pinky Malinky for a full series.
"Malinky" as adjective means "little" in a Slovak language (most possibly in various Slavic language). As a noun it means raspberries.
