Editor’s note: this list was originally published in October 2022. It has since been updated with new selections.
If horror’s limitless capacity for remakes, re-imaginings, and spinoffs teaches us anything, it’s that our nightmares never really change. Since before “Nosferatu” darkened the silent film scene in 1922 — heck, even before Bram Stoker terrified readers with “Dracula” in 1897 — vampires have transfixed audiences with their chilling blend of romance and menace. Movies like “Twilight” and “Interview with the Vampire” are memorable for weaving epic undead dramas for the big screen, but vampire sagas have arguably seen more creative permutations on TV, with whole casts of blood-sucking stars appearing in shows like “True Blood” and “Castlevania.”
The best vampire TV shows examine the archetypal underpinnings of the gothic-infused subgenre by referencing them in unexpected ways. Classic situational comedies like “Dark Shadows” make entertaining light of garlic, coffins, and the (pun intended) stakes of it all.

10. La Mante (2017)
Remember that one cannibal guy with a hilariously revealing name who collaborated with the police? And that other maniac, too? In La Mante, a serial killer also decides to help the cops — but not because she’s nice like that.
Someone is out there copying her signature murder style, and she’s infuriated. She wants them locked up.
“I'm enjoying La Mante. It is surveying previously unexplored realms of gruesomeness,” Stephen King wrote.
Watch La Mante on Netflix and Apple TV.
9. Dark (2017–2020)
Sometimes, what seems stable and picture-perfect hides worse secrets than the most dysfunctional relationship. For decades, four families have seemingly peacefully co-existed in a small German town, but the disappearance of two young kids dragged their old rivalries and problems out of the closet, escalating in no time.
“Dark is dark and complex...and...well...very German. Terrific show,” the King of Horrors said.

While Warner Bros. continues to sit on his adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot, filmmaker Gary Dauberman has gone on to sign a first-look feature deal with Sony’s Screen Gems, where he is expected to “create projects for himself while curating a slate featuring established and up-and-coming filmmakers.” One of the projects he has set up at Screen Gems is the video game adaptation Until Dawn, which will be directed by David F. Sandberg. Now Deadline has revealed that Dauberman is going to be producing a film called Ushers for Screen Gems… and we have no idea what Ushers is about, because it’s based on a short story by author Joe Hill (who happens to be a son of Stephen King) that has never been published!
Dauberman and his team at the Coin Operated production company will develop and produce Ushers, with Coin Operated’s President,...

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Marvel’s new Ben Grimm / The Thing in the upcoming film, The Fantastic Four. Before The Bear actor was tasked with the role in the MCU, Michael Bailey Smith, Carl Ciarfalio, Michael Chiklis, and Jamie Bell played the role in earlier live-action movies. However, Marvel did one thing right with Moss-Bachrach’s casting from the earlier iterations, as they appropriately cast a Jewish actor in the role.
The Bear actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach is cast as Ben Grimm / The Thing in the MCU’s The Fantastic Four
In Marvel Comics, Benjamin Grimm is Jewish and first revealed his identity in an emotional moment. Jack Kirby, who created the character, modeled Ben after himself and named him after his father Benjamin Kurtzberg.

Nearly two decades after The Lightning Thief was published, Percy Jackson fans are finally getting the faithful adaptation they’ve been waiting for with the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The show has a talented and stacked cast of actors that breathe new life into these characters and help transport us to a world where Greek gods, monsters, and everything in between are very real and very dangerous.
Here are the demigods, humans, gods, monsters, and more that you need to know in the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and the actors that bring them to life.
Walker Scobell is Percy Jackson
12-year-old Percy Jackson has always felt different from other kids his age. Adhd, a penchant for daydreaming, and an unlucky streak with bullies has gotten him kicked out of a number of schools, both private and public, but regardless he’s always felt safe...

Almost every television series gets in on the holiday spirit and sometimes that Christmas celebration arrives in the form of horror. Luckily, there’s no shortage of stellar horror TV episodes that deliver killer Santas, folkloric monsters of Yule, holiday ghosts, and more.
The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, this time with 11 holiday horror episodes of television that aren’t afraid to deck the halls with blood.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

The Wheel of Time is leaping to feature film terrain with a trilogy of films exploring the origins of Robert Jordan’s bestselling book series. Getting behind the camera for the first chapter is Kari Skogland, who directed Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Solider. Skogland directs the fantasy film from a script by Zack Stentz.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, the first film in The Wheel of Time trilogy is “set several millennia before the timeline of the books; the Age of Legends will chart the emergence of “the Dark One.” when the world descended into darkness and war. The film will delve into the corrosive nature of power and pride, as seen through the tragic tales of the Forsaken – once honored leaders who fell victim to the Dark One’s seduction, each personifying distinct elements of human weakness and ambition. Law & Order: Organized Crime has named its fifth showrunner.
Veteran showrunner John Shiban (Ozark, The X-Files) has been tapped to take over the helm of the fourth season of the Dick Wolf procedural. Shiban replaces David Graziano, with the Svu grad taking over the remainder of season three for Sean Jablonski.
Jablonski, who departed the Chris Meloni-led spinoff after creative differences, replaced Bryan Goluboff. The latter stepped in for Barry O’Brien, who was tapped as interim showrunner after original showrunner Ilene Chaiken departed.
John Shiban
Shiban joins Organized Crime after successful runs on Netflix’s Ozark, where he earned an Emmy nomination and WGA Award, and time on Hulu’s Shut Eye, The X-Files, Breaking Bad, DaVinci’s Demons, Hell on Wheels, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. Ozark vet John Shiban has been named executive producer and showrunner for NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime. Shiban fills the last remaining open showrunner spot for Wolf Entertainment & Universal Television’s drama series following the end of the writers strike. Law & Order: Organized Crime is set to air in midseason.
Shiban replaces Sean Jablonski, who stepped down as showrunner in March, the fourth showrunner to exit the NBC police procedural in a little over a year. At the time, Svu’s David Graziano stepped in to oversee the remaining three episodes of Season 3.
Writers rooms began opening earlier this month, shortly after the WGA reached a deal, for Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV’s three Chicago dramas for NBC, three FBI dramas for CBS as well as NBC’s Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu.

He’s baaack! Zachary Quinto appeared in the first two “American Horror Story” installments as gay homeowner Chad Warwick (Season 1’s “Murder House”) and as fan-fave serial killer Bloody Face (Season 2’s “Asylum”), but then he took a nine-year hiatus before popping up last year as erotic art curator Sam (Season 11’s “NYC”). Well, “AHS” viewers won’t have to wait another nine years to see Quinto again, as he’ll return to the franchise in Season 12’s “Delicate” in a mysterious role, which brings his tally to four total characters.

Plot: Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency—tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people—was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick, who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order.

Zachary Quinto could be headed back to NBC.
The former Heroes star has joined the cast of the network's upcoming one-hour medical drama pilot, Wolf, Deadline reports.
The potential series is inspired by the books The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks.
"It follows a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto), and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health," the outlet's description reads.
Dr. Wolfe is described as an "obsessive genius" who is drawn to people society has deemed as "other."
His aim is to help them find hope and purpose and "embraces differences rather than suppressing them."

Exclusive: Ashley Romans (Y: The Last Man) has been cast as a series regular opposite Ben McKenzie, Melissa George, Michelle Ortiz and Augustus Prew in ABC’s medical drama pilot The Hurt Unit. She replaces Bull alumna Jaime Lee Kirchner who had been originally cast in the pilot, written by Matt Lopez and John Glenn and to be directed by Marc Webb.
According to sources, Kirchner exited over creative differences during production. Her scenes will be reshot with Romans. While unfortunate, recastings are relatively common and a part of the pilot process.
The Hurt Unit follows a highly skilled team of trauma surgeons and nurses led by Danny (McKenzie), a self-made surgeon, who race into the field to treat the patients who won’t make it to the hospital in time. When the sick and the injured can’t get to the ER, the Hurt Unit (Hospital Urgent Response Team) brings the ER to them.

Fantastical elements have been part of television since 1964's "Bewitched" and 1965's "I Dream of Jeannie. In the following decades, the genre's popularity has only grown, moving beyond family-friendly sitcoms. The '90s brought us "Hercules" and "Xena: Warrior Princess." The 2000s ushered in the massive cultural phenomenon of "Lost." The world of fantasy television is wonderfully expansive, featuring some of the most critically-acclaimed television -- from philosophical comedies like "The Good Place" to time travel romantic dramas like "Outlander," to high fantasy tales of intrigue and betrayal like "House of the Dragon." For every beloved series, there's a critically-panned fantasy flop. Every "Game of Thrones" season 1, there's a "Game of Thrones" season 8.
But the reviews are not the end all be all of a show's enjoyability. After all, art is subjective. Sometimes media that didn't work for critics can still be a great time. Even if a show was not well-received on its release,...
